Best part is when he breaks character for a second to check if the camera is still on.

[–]Olive_Jane 331 points332 points  (52 children)

Here is my 'tough' girl in her Thundershirt on New Year's...

In her favorite fallout shelter, under my desk.

(Her other favorite fallout shelter, the bathrub, was occupied)

[–]gammonaddict 71 points72 points  (29 children)

Scale of 1-Purple, how well does that thunder buddy work? My girl has horrible anxiety about thunder and fireworks...

[–]TheBoomerXL 63 points64 points  (4 children)

I have a Jack Russell that alway had major anxiety attacks during thunderstorms or fireworks and I can tell you it helped. Instead of bouncing around from place to place he’ll just find somewhere he feels safe and basically go to sleep eventually

[–]Olive_Jane 30 points31 points  (2 children)

My girl tries to hide in so many places but is usually too big, so she suffices with sticking her head in.

[–]TheBoomerXL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, dogs are so amazing. As far as she’s concerned she’s perfectly sheltered

[–]William_Zazinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want something like that for myself :(

[–]Olive_Jane 107 points108 points  (6 children)

It's not a magical fix all but when I put it on my dog she tends to hunker down, vs. without it she will go from place to place trying to hide. So I believe it does help calm her. I don't use the oil or whatever else goes with it.

[–]Pattriktrik 11 points12 points  (5 children)

What is it? And how does it work?

[–]alianarchy 52 points53 points  (3 children)

Its a compression jacket. The feeling of pressure on all sides is comforting to animals in distress. Just like when a person is upset a hug is comforting. Works with some animals but some dislike the feeling.

[–]goldengracie 33 points34 points  (0 children)

We adopted a 7-year-old Golden Retriever who was broken-hearted after leaving her old home. Her Thundershirt got her through the first three months when she didn't feel safe and was afraid of everything. Four years later, she only needs it during bad storms. We are thankful to have had it when she needed it.

Purple/purple would buy it again.

[–]Neato 20 points21 points  (4 children)

I have a Bischon-King Charles mix and it didn't do anything. He gets upset at people outside, fireworks, the garbage men, etc. The only thing I've found that works is a white noise machine when we leave the house.

[–]elsharra 7 points8 points  (1 child)

They do work very well a lot of the time, ok some of the time, and not at all for some dogs... They can be expencive, so if you think you want to try one, you might want to go to a used clothing store and find a baby or todler onsie or tshirt that will fit your dog tight (like a baby being swaddled) but without constricting movement. If you notice improvement durring storms and such, then it'll probably be worth getting a thundershirt. The thundershirts will work better than a baby shirt by a lot, but at least the baby shirt will give you an idea if it's worth trying.

[–]notabigmelvillecrowd 3 points4 points  (1 child)

In my admittedly limited experience, dogs that don't like being cuddled don't really like it. I opt for giving my dog treats when the offending noise occurs. It helps a lot.

[–]TheProtractor 17 points18 points  (17 children)

Can you save me googling how this works?

[–]Olive_Jane 89 points90 points  (14 children)

Yeah, The tldr is that it's a wearable hug. Like swaddling your dog. It wraps around and uses Velcro in three places so it's snug on your pug. Then they feel less anxiety hopefully. I think it can be hit or miss, I commented elsewhere that it's not a magical fix all.

[–]ficcionella 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Consider my heart melted <3

[–]Vexcative 6 points7 points  (11 children)

Stupid question. What is the evolutionary advantage of freaking the fuck out during thunder?

[–]Souperpie84 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Probably because thunder=lightning and lightning=death so better get inside.

Or it's startling and triggers fight or flight response.

[–]Words_are_Windy 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Loud noises = danger in the wild, whether it's thunder or other animals making noises.

[–]Vexcative 2 points3 points  (4 children)

i thought their instincts are more sophisticated than that, also, why don't cats or most of the other animals give a damn fuck?

[–]curiositykillstak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Owner of 3 kitties here! Mine all freak out at loud noises as well. Fireworks are the worst for the poor beebs. The only animal I have that doesn't seem bothered is my ball python, and from what I understand, they hear through their jaws, so the sound may not be too defined. A big boom with lots of vibration might make him react, but otherwise, he seems unaffected by sound.

[–]dylan15766 63 points64 points  (2 children)

Never heard about thindershirts before so I had to do some research.

Here's some copy/paste for those who are also interested. (Pets at home)

Thundershirt's gentle, constant pressure has a dramatic calming effect for most dogs if anxious, fearful or over-excited.

Based on surveys completed by more than 2000 customers, over 80% of dogs showed improvement in symptoms when using the Thundershirt.

Thundershirt can used for the following symptoms:

Fear of thunder

Fear of fireworks

Separation anxiety

Crate training

Problem barking

Problem Jumping

Lead pulling

and many more!

[–]xXx69PuSSyBl00d69XxX 11 points12 points  (1 child)

    [–]pinkcrushedvelvet 140 points141 points  (13 children)

He has a job, he's wearing the owner's company's beanie. This is probably a covert advertisement in all honesty. I saw this posted on their Instagram the other week.

    [–]danspanksmidgets 142 points143 points  (4 children)

I was thinking Will Smith as Hancock.

    [–]whiskeypickle 98 points99 points  (13 children)

Is it just me or was Hancock too early for the time. I think it would be way more successful now, after seeing what deadpool did

    [–]FriendFoundAccount 81 points82 points  (5 children)

If it wasn't two different scripts thrown together, sure.

They come in all sizes and dogs really appreciate the calming effect!
