The best part about those armor sets in particular is the fact that in any scene where you'd normally tilt your head, nod, show any emotion whatsoever, etc. your character just sits there motionless.

If someone doesn't say anything that means he agrees, right?

My lawyer has advised me not to answer questions like this. your lawyer advised you to buy a set of leveling armor?

Your character can't even turn their head in that set either. I didn't think to change my equipment when getting married. The results were... interesting

You thought this would be a flair but it was me DIO!

this armor makes every moment extra special

4 points · 29 days ago

Oh wow, this is great LOL.

25 points · 1 month ago

Oh god :D

If I ever get married in this game, that is what I'm putting on.

14 points · 29 days ago

It's like your character is saying "you may have the privilege of kissing my hand."

17 points · 1 month ago

The head doesn’t move during any action sequence either, so every time you swing a weapon the head stares forward.

Even if the torso isn’t even facing the enemy.

This makes me want to divorce just so I can remarry and do this. You're my new hero.

21 points · 1 month ago

It gets even better when you're in a cold location and the wisps of breath come out of the helmet's visor.

<WoL continues to audibly breathe in response.>

I remember using it during the final boss of 2.0’s story. He’s floating up there taunting me, and I’m just staring at the ground

it was like that for almost all of heavensward for me, since i was too cheap to level up from ironworks for a good chunk of it.

Tell me, have you ever experienced a sudden, explicable loss of consciousness?

I'd assume that'd be a common occurrence while wandering around Thanalan in a giant tin can.

26 points · 1 month ago

This is true.

10 points · 29 days ago

explicable loss of consciousness?

I experience that every day! I call it sleep.

Now inexplicable? That's a different question ;P

or talking to Minfillia in general.

Oh my god yes, or if one went swimming in that.

175 points · 1 month ago

Honestly thought this was a Fullmetal Alchemist joke at first.

Me too. When she says "a mind without a body",

How many lalas do we have to transmute to bring minfilia back?

Since we can't use the ones responsible for her death, we have to use everyone within seven degrees of blood relation to them.

9 points · 29 days ago

I say we start with all of them.
Better safe than sorry, right?

But then the wildlife will be deprived of their primary delicious food source and starve.

5 points · 29 days ago

You make a good point.
And I won't be able to make my highly popular lala stew either...
75% maybe then?

4 points · 29 days ago

I'm 75% sure there's a species of slug in Gyr Abania that preferentially eats Roegadyn. I saw the FATE once on Stormblood launch day... and never again.

How many lala's do we have to transmute to keep her away?

It's just a proxy suit of armor. You're out having fun while it just sits there listening to the cutscenes, aren't you?!

I shall meet with you anon!

Does it get better in hw/sb? I started a new character to follow the story but all the a to b walking is killing me.

There's a lot of walking. But it gets DRASTICALLY easier to navigate in hw/sb. And there's almost always an aetheryte where you actually need them.

29 points · 1 month ago

Except those few quests in HW where you have to climb that stupid tower...

6 points · 1 month ago

It gets better in he/sb. On top of that, flying mounts make log distance travel easier bc you can make a straight line to your destination, set the character to auto walk and in the meantime, do stuff in menues or something else.

But that's after basically all of the MSQ6in that location is complete.

The story is at its worst at lvl ~15-45. It gets a lot better after that.

Khan Armada on Cactuar
3 points · 29 days ago

Ehh, some of the ARR post-game drags like shit it feels like. Then you hit HW and it finally stops feeling like someones making you play at gunpoint.

Yes. The NPCs tend to follow you along more, so less trips back to base for you.

Cmon it's not that far! Especially with a chocobo

26 points · 1 month ago

Go to Limsa. Take aetheryte to arcanist guild. Take ship to vesper bay. Have setting set so you auto skip any repeat cut scenes.

Fastest way to waking sands. Still annoyed with how many times I ran from Horizon.

2 points · 29 days ago

Horizon's still faster for me. Stupid loading screens.

Ahh yes. I sometimes forget about long loading screens since getting my SSD.

Ok I didn’t know this. Noted.

16 points · 1 month ago

At least they force the helms off for really vital cutscenes where the WoL’s facial expressions are really important. But yeah, reasons I turn off helms majority of the time, unless it’s a neat circlet or pin or something.

Until I started leveling Bard. All the bard hats forever. I am convinced it’s a vital part of playing the job properly.

24 points · 1 month ago · edited 29 days ago

That armor the op is wearing doesn't allow you to wear helmets. It just counts as a "chest" slot so every cutscene you are stuck in that goofy ass tin can lol.

3 points · 29 days ago

One of the pieces I avoid then, when I see that "can't wear headgear" message, cuz yeah it's the worst. That and the equivalent caster robe are really the only ones I recall doing that, though.

The trashcan armor doesn't have a helmet; that bucket over the WoL's head is part of the chest piece and cannot be hidden or removed.

There's a reason it's a meme.

3 points · 29 days ago

I think that's one of those pieces I tend to avoid, then, because of the "can't wear headgear" aspect and the caster version with the hooded robe can't be hidden, either.

Unlike the robe, however, you can wear pants. Tragically, the pants of the trashcan sets don't let you wear shoes for a similar, equally dumb, reason

7 points · 29 days ago

Amon's hat is the highest tier of important bard gear. Anyone who says otherwise has never touched an instrument in their life.

Similarly I did a massive chunk of the MSQ dressed as a literal jester 2 months ago to catch up. Made it hard to take me seriously.

Are you Kefka by any chance?

Gloam set?

Xiph Eonis
1 point · 29 days ago

Whatever the lvl 50 caster gear is, plus the jester hat from lvl 50 heavensward crafting. Wasn't even on purpose.

Ah. The Gloam set is the 50 MNK/NIN/SAM gear, makes you look like a circus act. Spent much of my time as a SAM with that glamour and the Garuda katana.

It was the Evenstar set except with the Rainbow Cap of Casting

7 points · 1 month ago

This reminds me of the time I've spent with lv70 gear on my tanks during 2.0. Hated it

7 points · 1 month ago · edited 1 month ago

There is something really wrong with that claim.

EDIT: So item level 70, my bad. I thought it was just a typo.

5 points · 1 month ago · edited 1 month ago

Darklight was item level 70 back in 2.0. The tank gear was modeled like this and it's what you'd get with the original unrestricted tomestomes (Philosophy). I think it currently drops out of Halatali HM and Brayflox HM (maybe more, I forget).

And as a bonus....

  1. Raid restrictions and organization was super fucking obnoxious in 2.0 compared to how easy it is to drop in and out now. And getting Turn 1 done was too much of an ask for many, many players.

    • Tank chest and boots dropped out of Turn 1. That's great, right? Oops, hope you bought a helmet or pants with your Myth tomes or you can't actually use that armor, lolz. Also, you can't even cheat with crafted i70. Why? Because tank crafted i70 IS THE EXACT SAME FUCKING PROBLEM. At least casters could equip Vanya gear to get around the problem. Tanks were just double-fucked.

  2. Speaking of Myth tomes... The weekly limit was 300 in 2.0. Not the 450 to which it's been standardized ever since 2.1. Your hat costs 495 Myth, your pants cost 825. Getting both meant 1320 or a minimum of 5 weeks.

    • That said, you'd buy the i90 hat if your team could consistently do T1. And if your team could get through Turn 1, it generally meant that you could get through Turn 2 and potentially get your pants.

    • Why not the pants in general though? Because your hat drops out of Turn 5. Get fucking real, you weren't clearing Turn 5 with your podunk team in early 2.0 (remember, it took 2 months for the world first clear).

  3. Not into raiding but you still like to gear up as best you can to be the best Myth Hero that ever was? Well, you're still fucked by the 5 weeks to replace your body+hat or pants+boots. Get to grinding and waiting, assface! Can't wear one without the other!

Gearing up in 2.0 sucked ass, especially if you were a tank. At least the devs figured out that the combo armor pieces were a giant hassle for gear, let alone when it's goddamn progression gear. Though it still took them ages to figure out tokens.

I think they meant item level 70

1 point · 1 month ago

I believe he is referring to iLv 70 gear, aka Darklight Gear; the tank set, if I am not mistaken, is fashioned after the style shown in the OP’s screenshot. Back then it was obtainable by spending Tomestones of Philosophy, I think, and at their removal that same gear was distributed in dungeons loot as both coffers and boss drops.

3 points · 1 month ago

Also important to note the glamour system was introduced in 2.2, so there was no choice in the matter of appearance.

6 points · 1 month ago

5 points · 1 month ago

I really need you to know that I cackled out loud at this.

4 points · 1 month ago

I remembered being in that armor set and just hating it so much... It drove me to continued playing and levelling up, to the point where my gladiator could equip upgrade gear that was more visually pleasing.

“...a mind without a body?” “Erm... I like smashin’ stuff”

3 points · 1 month ago

Trash can armor makes everything better.

Try nodding yes sometimes. You just rock back and forth a bit and it's hilarious.

I really wish they'd bring the tincan sets back, just for fun.

Where's the {Aetherial Boarskin Subligar}

I love the text with the armor looking like alphonse elric from full metal alchemist.

2 points · 29 days ago

not the leveling gear I was expecting to see...

See also: Melee DPS gear that looks like a technicolor gimp suit. It makes it just about impossible to take the game seriously unless you glamor everything

I was actually pleasantly surprised when I found a situation where it worked out. In the home stretch I got a crazy good aetheric harness and it works with ninja class gear. Dyed to match it was really nice actually.

But no, I did avoid wearing full sets of those. They could be used piecemeal but all together they were too much.

Try it on a male character. Two words. Assless chaps.

These scenes always reminded me of the mountain from game of thrones. just standing there not seeing his face in that armor

This is the power of darklight

I thought about this meme recently and it made me laugh. So glad to see it again 😂 (idk if those pics are recent or not but I saw basically this on the FFXIV forums ages ago)

I forgot minfilia was a thing.

Honestly? I'll though I stopped playing around 30, I think I would've stayed with the Demon Souls armor. It looks really nice

Thank you glamours... couldn't wait to not look like a stove.

This and subligar, truly the 2.0 leveling experience

1 point · 1 month ago

This is the one I took 4 years ago

I love my characters reactions in those cutscenes

I'm leveling my first tank, and the first thing I did with those sets was glamour 'em to something else. I don't want my Thighlander looking like a trash can.

1 point · 29 days ago

Try being a roe and having your face cut out.

Keep looking for the video (gif?) Or the Warrior of Light dining with Ser Aymeric in this set.

I am disappointed.

Tanks for the reminder. I always hated those tin-can pieces.

Make a full metal alchemist glamour

My favorite part about this armor is that if you draw your sword as a Dark Knight the “helmet” portion stares off to the complete left instead of straight. Your character is basically like “Yeah that’s right, I’m so edgy and depressed I’m not even going to look at you while I slay you”

Everyone knows that's how to dress to impress.

1 point · 29 days ago

"I feed on spleens! So hungry..."

Thats a very insensitive line of questioning for Minfilia to propose to Alphonse Elric..
