My name is Rod, and I like to party.
my name is dave, and i like to party
Uh, no, Dave. I just said that I party, so maybe you could do something different from me.
My name is Dave, and I... am the stuntman
Hello, I'm Rico, and I like to party.
Okay, what did I just say to Dave?
Hey I like to party I'm Kevin.
No, no you don't. Ok, nobody parties but me.
You're right, Dave's the party guy
Hi, I'm Brick and people tell me that I'm retarded.
Hi Brick I'm Ron.Wanna be a WeatherMan At KWWN.There's an opening.
No Kevin you don’t do stunts
Dave's not here, man.
My name is Tre, and I have a basketball game tomorrow.
My name is Aman, and I wish you best of luck.
Lmao that was the first thing that came to my mind too! I miss vine...
My name is Aman, and I like to to sleep.
My name is Buck and I’m here to encourage fiscal responsibility
The accuracy of two of these statements have changed significantly since then.
The accuracy of all 3 has changed. Krist started singing on some tracks a couple years before Cobain's death, at least on stage.
Cause Kurt doesn’t play and doesn’t sing?
And Dave plays guitar and sings all the time
And Krist plays bass but doesn't sing. Thank god.
So 2/3 changed, then.
2 out of 3 ain’t bad
I want you
I need you
But there ain't no way, I'm ever gonna love you
Now don't be sad
Not anymore no.
He's playing with Elvis, Morrison, and Hendricks
It's Hendrix you philistine!
You missed a coma, you philistine!
You misspelled “comma,” you philistine!
If there’s a rock and roll heaven, you know they’ve got a hell of a band.
Krist plays accordion more than bass nowadays. And Dave sings more than he plays drums.
Giants in the Trees right? Love their song Center of the Earth
Yep! They’re pretty damn good.
I actually have a Krist appreciation day every Sunday on r/nirvana. He’s a cool dude.
I don’t think that’s how appreciation days work..
I just post a pic of him doing something nice or dumb, since nobody seems to care about him in the subreddit.
I was just making a joke about it being weekly since they’re usually an annual thing :)
Lol. I just got wooshed.
I can hear the 90s audio overlay
I can even hear the audio wobble
“Hi, Goldenshower TV”
2018: I am Dave, and I play song and I sing drums sometimes but not that often.
Also R.I.P my hero (and Dave's)
I wouldn’t say Dave wanted Kurt dead but it has been well-documentated that they both despised each other in the last months.. I think maybe it had something to do with Dave getting too comfortable in interviews.
They didn't hate each other near the end. Kurt was the one that hated everyone and that was probably due to his mental health and drug addiction spiralling out of control. It's a shame Kurt left it like that but most suicidal people don't think rationally near the end.
I mean obviously... There is nothing rational about suicide, unless you are sick and going to die anyway.
A lot of people wouldn't really consider DFW to be an overly rational person. I sort of agree with the quote, but I still think it's not necessarily rational.
I was watching a Holocaust doc over the weekend and was struck by how survivors would describe their own abuse without showing any emotion, but would become highly emotional when talking about the things they saw other people endure. It really stuck with me and your comment made me think of it. So..yeah
Rational tells us that the correct path to choose would be the one that offers the best outcome. Which would most certainly be taking steps to receive help and improve your situation. However, in the case of both the building and suicide, intensely negative situations cause you to think more about the best immediate outcome rather than the best overall outcome, which is contrary to rational thought.
Being that I been in a low place several times in my life and had those negative feelings, I can tell you that I do not consider those thoughts to be rational, but I definitely can understand where those feelings would come from.
Krist Novoselic “singing” Scoff
Edit: got the link to the entire song, live at Kapu
Isn't that from the clip where they say space shower tv and by the time the camera turns to Krist he forgets the name and says hi golden shower tv! lol makes me laugh everytime.
Loved this band so much growing up.
Yeah, whatever happened to Hanson anyway?
You shut your dirty whore mouth. lol
Those were dudes the whole time?
The best funny Nirvana clip was there Top of the Pops performance.
Territorial Pissings though...
I mean, can we take a moment to acknowledge how much cooler Dave looks now?
Yes. Two of them aged very well.
RIP Kurt Cobain 1967-1994
We all love you.
It's so weird knowing I'm older now that Kurt ever was. I was 7 when he died.
And yet so much less successful. At least, that's what I always think.
In the end, it was a blast.
And I swear that I don't have a gun
I just realized, that Dave Grohl was no founding member of Nirvana. Moreover, he was the FIFTH drummer which played for Nirvana. Weird....
Yeah, they couldn’t keep a drummer ever.
Aaron was a good drummer but had issues. He still lives in the area and plays with Under Sin. Good dude, I’m friends with him on Facebook. He did a AMA on the Nirvana subreddit last year.
Dave Foster had a double bass set up which sounded amazing but he was hardly in the band. The first show under the name Nirvana is pretty easy to find, I think it was in March of 88.
Dale Crover is probably the best pure drummer they had. That dude is amazing, and I think Kurt wishes he would’ve stayed with them. (For his drumming, and his ties to the Melvins) I think Kurt actually wanted to fire Dave at one point because he just couldn’t compare.
Chad Channing was the drummer on Bleach and Polly. Kurt thought his set up was sick and jammed with him, before bringing him in. He gets flack for being too soft of a drummer, and “musical differences” is why he left. Not sure if he was kicked out for his drumming or because he wanted to contribute to song writing more.
Chad is severely underrated. He should’ve been in the HOF with them. Say what you want about his playing, but he was amazing at writing the music for drums. In Bloom, Breed, Stay Away, Lithium... all Chad. Not to mention stuff like Scoff, Sifting and Mr. Moustache.
Don’t forget Dan Peters of Mudhoney played on Sliver too!
Let’s not forget Floyd the Barber
Dave didn't write SLTS.
Actually no. Kurt wrote the riff up while listening to a lot of the Pixies.
Any of you band geeks bringing sources or what?
Cobain began writing it a few weeks before recording Nirvana's second album, Nevermind, in 1991. When he presented the song to his bandmates, it comprised just the main guitar riff and the chorus vocal melody, which bassist Krist Novoselic dismissed as "ridiculous". In response, Cobain made the band play the riff for an hour and a half. Eventually, Novoselic began playing the riff more slowly, inspiring drummer Dave Grohl to create the drum beat. As a result, it is the only song on Nevermind to credit all three band members as writers.
I'm neither of them, I have no sources, and I don't really know what the answer to this is. However, I do know that I saw an interview on Dave one time and he mentioned how he was coming up with these ideas for songs but no one in Nirvana listened to him because he was just the drummer. That line doesn't make any sense if he wrote Smells Like Teen Spirit, so I have a hard time believing it.
That was probably in reference to his Pocketwatch release in 1992 and its collection of songs. Totally give it a listen, it kicks ass!
The song Marigold later appeared on Nirvana's Heart-Shaped Box single as a b-side, though Cobain did not play on this version.
Dave would go on to being credited by Kurt on coming up with the drum beat and guitar riff for Scentless Apprentice.
Youre getting it confused with scentless apprentice. Dave came up with the chugchug bit. Kurt wanted that as the lead single from in utero (so he listed all of them as songwriters, same as SLTS, so theyd all do well of the royalties) but obv record company felt otherwise.
That song existed long before Dave was even in the band
Kurt wrote that song dude.
These dudes, especially Dave had no clue just how iconic they would be in life. Yea they dreamed it but it got bigger than them.
Pretty sure they knew how iconic they were. They personally killed hair metal (thankfully)
Fuck mainstream 80s hair bands. No substance
I can agree with that
You bring up an excellent point. I am 47 and I remember how “smells like teen spirit” hijacked MTV, and once SNL had them on ,,,,,hair bands wept. But I never imagined at middle age I would be a huge Dave Grohl fan,,,as is my 22 year old son.
Haha. I’m 45. I get pissed that my 16 year old loves Nirvana. That’s MY music! How can some kid in the 2018 burbs understand the angst behind that music? And WTF were we so pissed off about? The 90s were great years, considering the decade to follow.
Honestly, kids these days have more reasons to be angsty than we did. And your 16 year old has good taste, could just as easily be Justin Beiber so rejoice in that at least!
COooooooME OnnnN PEOPLE NaaaaaaOWWWW
I'm Pat Smear and I had the coolest name in the band even though I was just a touring member. It's ok though, I later went on to form part of the Foo Fighters and did some other stuff, probably.
Pat was already a punk legend before Nirvana. He was The Germ’s guitarist.
His name, though.
It’s pretty bad, yeah.
His real name is georg Albert ruthenberg, so still not much better lol
What's this from?
It’s from some interview they did. I’ll try to find it and link it later.
my name is is animals and I play bass I am not that good at singing but I like to party .
The actual dialogue that goes with this "Space Shower" interview is far funnier.
Krist sang on the intro to ''Territorial Pissings'' actually, but he doesn't like to think about that
i'm christ,thank god
Damn, I remember when the first Foo Fighters album was released and so many people shit all over it. And now...I think they showed them.
That’s strange. I remember that album being loved. It was nominated for best alternative album and came in 2nd in Rolling Stones best albums that year. The only controversy with the album were with the Ritalin lyrics in “This is a Call,” and that was mostly just manufactured controversy.
I remember a lot of negative talk in Sydney at the time. Didn't matter because I loved it. Though interestingly I have no interest in the old Foos these days.
There was some minor critics trying to say Dave was just emulating Kurt and cashing in on the Nirvana name while it was still relevant.
Haters gonna hate.
Oh totally. I never thought it sounded like nirvana other then being alt rock really. Nirvana had very unique song progression and style where I find Foo Fighters is more formulaic and radio friendly.
That is exactly what I remember. Almost word for word.
I graduated high school in 96. That album was everywhere back then. I didn’t know a single person that didn’t at least think it was decent. Dunno what you mean by shitting on it.
I think the second one was good too. After that though, I agree.
I just watched this documentary last night (Montage of Heck). It was absolutely eye opening, and almost made me dismiss all suspicions surrounding Courtney in his death. Almost.....
looks like a nod to one of the beatles bbc radio interviews ("the beatles live at the bbc"): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WP-aNUJDk_k
I scrolled a long way to find a reference to this.... I was beginning to think I made it up!
Foo Fighters is the best rock band
Should’ve added modern to this statement but even then the competition is still close
Kurt swore that he didn't have a gun, but he had a gun. HE HAD A FUCKING GUN!!!!
Kurt blows his own brains out 2 weeks after ingesting a bunch of pills trying to kill himself, escaping the rehab meant to save his life... A guy who wrote songs about drug addiction and depression, and you blame the chick 2000 miles away.
You sound smart.
That whole Courtney Love thing was a just a fantasy dude. No one takes it serious.
Care to explain?
It's a conspiracy theory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPRDpg57M8o&
Theres a whole movie Soaked in Bleach https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3253624/ that questions whether it was an actual suicide or if there wasnt foul play by Courtney Love. If I remember correctly has something to do with Kurt wanted a divorce from Courtney (they were having problems) and was gonna have her removed from his will. Through his investigation he determines it wasnt an actual suicide and largely accuses Courtney of being involved.
That documentary is so inaccurate. It gets basic science wrong. Also a divorce is surely a motive for suicide not murder. Courtney would've gotten a divorce settlement which could've ended up being half of what Kurt owned.
I thought Kurt played the shotgun
kurt was a vinyl record because the needle played him
Found the uncultured guy
What the hell? I'm just asking why this particular picture is on funny subreddit. Is it funny? Maybe I'm missing something.
I aint saing this band is bad or something.
Why do you think it's appropriate to call someone uncultured? You're just being rude.
Because anyone who doesn’t know who Nirvana is is uncultured. How does one not recognize Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl?
You're wrong. I know this band very well and ofcourse I've recognized them, I just don't think this picture is funny.
You're just being a stupid fanboy or troll.
bcuz krist is/was an unbelievably shit singer
Is could not agree more. It’s bad I got old and sold out but to add insult to injury is my kids blaring nirvana.
you might be underrating one of the best bands of the 90's... with Nevermind being one of the best and most influential albums ever.
I doubt they'd be forgotten, but they would probably be thought of no differently to Pearl Jam. There would be no Foo Fighters, at least in the way they are now, which people may find a positive or negative.
Or they would have split up, Kurt going either acoustic or down the batshit insane experimental route.
I’d love to hear a Cobain batshit insane experimental thing.
What's wrong with Rush? Not trying to insult Nirvana a but Rush is great.
rush is absolutely incredible and so is nirvana
Rush bad. Me opinion important.
rush good me opinion bigger important
Me don’t know what say. Irrational mad. Me Hit me till blood. Now me cry and scream. Internet hurt me
Since you clearly have a superior taste in music, what do you listen to?
I usually listen to big time rush, Justin Guarini, Baja men, and Ne-yo... so yeah... you could say my taste is pretty fuckin superior. Have a seat, tough guy.
Certainly. Vastly superior. I think you just listed out the soundtrack for the new Tyler Perry movie.
So is rye bread bad too? I actually agree with that
Is that the band that wrote the Canadian National Anthem, "Fly by Night"?
Tbf, neither could Kurt. However they both had a tone that is enjoyable to listen to, and great music to enhance their vocal performances. And these aren't the only examples. Thinking back, how many people would say Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Alice Cooper, etc. were great singers in any capacity, and yet their music makes up for it and the end result is very pleasing. Not everybody can have a voice like Ronnie James Dio, and that's okay.
What? Dave’s known as one of the nicest guys in rock music
Chuck's really dumb man.
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? How tho
