True = !Truen't

In 1985 my bud and I skipped grade 9 (that's how it's said in Canada) for a month straight, took the bus downtown to the good arcades on Yonge street to play wonder boy and shinobi. They sent the Truen't officer but we escaped through the alley.

What language has unless as a keyword?

Perl? Ruby? (I'm not 100% sure, actually, never touched those)

Also, English.

17 points · 1 month ago

It's definitely in ruby, but it's an alias for if !(condition)

Perl as well with the same meaning

In Perl at least though, there's also until which is an alias of while not, so whilen't would work better for that

3 points · 1 month ago · edited 1 month ago

Perl, though for readability sake it is not recommended to use.

I can only read this sentence as suggesting not to use Perl (for readability).

😢 I like perl. Sentence was garbage so edited for clarity

Oh there was nothing wrong with what you wrote. Just a bug with my interpreter

Also, Elixir (because its syntax is based on Ruby)

2 more replies

Perl, but it is used there as the opposit of if. The conditional code gets executed when the condition evaluates to false.

Yeah if this is Perl/a similar language the op should have used until not unless

5 points · 1 month ago

Common Lisp and Racket have it baked in.

Perl but it doesn't mean 'while not', it means 'if not'

In Perl the keyword for 'while not' is until

-- -> ++n't

P.S. How did you put code and non code text on the same line?

If you do `this`, it becomes this.

8 points · 1 month ago

yea but how do you do this ^

11 points · 1 month ago

Like this \`this\`

11 points · 1 month ago

And to do that ^ you need to do \\\`this\\\`

And to do that ^ you need to do \\\\\\`this\\\\\\`

2 points · 1 month ago

Surround text with backticks (`).

until -> aftern't

only sh kids will get ^this

pop -> pushn't

Wouldn't unless make more sense as ifn't and until as whilen't

I only know the perl versions though

Ah, fair point. I was thinking until, not unless.

There was an "Ebonicode" that went around a while back. It got social justice'd out of existence but here's a sample that apparently finds primes.

  a be 1 bitch
  slongas(a fearin 100)
    b be 2 bitch
    c be 0 bitch
    slongas(b fearin a)
      if (a videdby b time b sameas a)
        propsta c bitch
        propsta b bitch
    if (c sameas 0)
      putou a bitch
    propsta a bitch

I never knew wanted to start all my methods with "sup" before.

It took me way too long to figure out slongas was "as long as"

i can read this so there must be something wrong in my brain

This is awesome - I love esoteric languages like this. Was this a real thing, eg did someone actually write a compiler or interpreter for this or was it just a joke? I can't find any search results anywhere. What do you mean it was social justice's out of existence? How is that even possible?

The only result I could find was this. Seems like it doesn't have a compiler yet.

Sorry, your language level is set to 1.5 and lambda expressions are not supported

<Any object> -> thisn't

! -> yesn't

I have no idea what is going on but I love it.

What’s the origin of the n’t meme?

474 points · 1 month ago

Someone made a petition to change every "no" in the English language to "yesn't". An image of this was posted to r/me_irl and it got popular.

Good ol newspeak

Good unnew Newspeak.

Ungood unnew Unnewspeak.

Shouldn't it be noty's

it was actually the guy that made the petition, who posted a picture of it at the very beginning

r/me_irl I believe.

It will be in r/outoftheloop soon enough

if x
ifn't if y

I'd probably prefer ifn't but instead of ifn't if but what do I know.

if should be elsen't

When/where/why did all these contraction memes start showing up? Help me understand.

Its from a petition to change "No" to yesn't.

I get where its from, but i don't get why or how it is so popular or why it is funny.

I find it funny. I just don't get it...

if (i =n't 10){
print "hello world!"
prin't "hello world!"

Run, there's an elephant in your code!

esac fi

Ruby uses elsif

So efficient!

} if (!condition);

It’s like technology mapping all over again

It's 1984 all over again. Time to learn New Speak and pledge my allegiance to the party I suppose

Is you is, or is you ain't

Iz u iz or iz u ain't

Mah babehhhhh

if {} ifn'tif {} ifn't

if else fi

Miss me with that shell script nonsense.

  Am I better than you?

  If so, let us proceed to scene III.

This is the only one I could get behind. I like it.

I want to put this into my toy language i'm following a guide to build. But this would kill code readability I think.

Could use if! lol

3 points · 1 month ago

Perl programmers be like 'unless'

And ruby !

To be or ben't, that is the question

Knock off this nonsense or ifn't.

2 more replies

To be fair, ifn't is a pretty good contraction for "if not". It probably works best with a southern accent and a loose sense of grammar though.

2 points · 1 month ago

surprised i didn't see this t'nseye yet

Yesn’t, I dont think so

Can someone please explain so I can join the cool club? Lol

Somebody mustn'tn't make a language like this

switchn't case switch casen't

Thanks for my first legit laugh today.

Just start't

Alright, who's going to come up with preprocessor directives to make the spostrophe work like that?

I don'tn't approve

True = Yes, False = Yesn't.

if i ='nt 0

I mean…

equal -> equaln't
= -> =n't

So who's gonna write a plug-in for our IDEs to accept this input?

var -> constn't

If (this)

Dont( thing)

Do(this stuff);

Supprised this meme hasnt died yet

Is this a actual programming language ?

What have we done /r/yesnt?

1 point · 1 month ago

#define ifnt else

If I ever make a programming language this is happening

And that's why I prefer the ternary operator.

#define ifn't else

What programming lang is this

1 point · 1 month ago · edited 1 month ago

!=null == nulln’t

Computers work by using ones and onen'ts to represent True and Truen't

if(!condition) { //Code return; } //Rest of the code

This is "ifn't"

linux = windowsn't... Oh shit
