But it's fine, since everyone can still eat cake comment with their moderator access. I really don't care, do u?

[–]SmogBlock 6593 points6594 points  (7 children)

What's crazy is that jacket literally costs 39$, and I've never seen Melania wear print jackets with words before

[–]AnneFrankenstein 2605 points2606 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure we've never seen her wear anything that cost 39 dollars either.

A spot on her usual clothes from food she has spilled on herself costs more than 39 dollars.

[–]Numendil 1883 points1884 points  (0 children)

At that price, and from Zara, it wouldn't surprise me if it was made by children too. Ironic....

[–]thinkscotty 1000 points1001 points  (0 children)

My hope is that she hates her husband and is trying to send a message to the public on his behalf.

My fear is that it's one of Donald's distraction tactics.

I can't believe it's not on purpose.

[–]DildoSmudge 2610 points2611 points  (7 children)

It’s June in south Texas. Hot AF. She must have really wanted to wear that jacket...

[–]spikeyfreak 1210 points1211 points  (2 children)

It's June in central Texas too.

[–]rocketmonkee 858 points859 points  (1 child)

Gulf coast region checking in. I just looked at the calendar and sure enough - June. Weird.

[–]Just_A_Sports_Guru 269 points270 points  (0 children)

North Texas checking in. June here too. Also really hot. Summer I think.

[–]tyled 53 points54 points  (3 children)

Apparently she didn’t wear it off the plane. But still..

[–]JeanPicLucard 2603 points2604 points  (29 children)

She's fucking trolling us. It's the same thing with speech at the Republican convention that lifted word-for-goddamn-word from Michelle Obama's previous speech: They know what they are doing, they pretend that they don't know any better, but they are trolling the entire nation.

[–]UnicornPanties 905 points906 points  (17 children)

BUT WHY!?!?!??

I don't disagree with you but I don't understand what the purpose is.

[–]SurlyRed 967 points968 points  (0 children)

I didn't coin the following theory, but it seems appropriate to relate it here: One of Trump's strategies is to cause outrage amongst his opponents, so that they become more radical in their opposition, and field more extreme candidates in elections. This would cause Republicans to reject the alternatives and bolster his support.

In other words, moderate republicans who might be minded to vote Democrat, would continue to support Trump because they can't countenance the Democratic candidate's policies.

I don't know if this explains Melania Trump's behaviour, but like you, I find it hard to understand the rationale.

[–]philsredditaccount 11.9k points11.9k points  (8 children)

"The first lady was later seen visiting a children's cancer ward donning a vest that read 'Live Fast, Die Young'..."

[–]NotAConsoleGamer 3093 points3094 points  (0 children)

She did once read "Oh the places you'll go" to terminally ill kids

[–]crispychoc 737 points738 points  (0 children)

The worst thing is, it wouldn’t even surprise me at this point.

[–]AFlaccoSeagulls 2699 points2700 points  (26 children)

Just in case anyone's wondering if this is fake or not, it's not.

FLOTUS spox confirms Mrs. Trump wore a jacket to visit border kids that reads: "I really don't care. Do you?" Spox says: "It's a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today's important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn't going to choose to focus on her wardrobe."

She's a model. She historically takes pride in her wardrobes. This isn't a mistake.

[–]not-working-at-work 1180 points1181 points  (5 children)

She’s right, it’s not a hidden message.

It’s not subtext. It’s just text.

[–]NovaNardis 152 points153 points  (3 children)

Yeah. That's the thing. No one is saying it's a hidden message. It's on her damned jacket.

[–]NabiscoLobstrosity 298 points299 points  (1 child)

"I really don't care"

Pick one.

[–]bluehands 24.8k points24.8k points  (257 children)

We live inside an Onion article.

[–]HungryLikeTheWolf99 6378 points6379 points  (196 children)

When the election was underway, I remember thinking that "Trump vs. Hillary in 2016 Presidential Elections" was basically an Onion article circa 2006. But... now it's reality.

[–]bluehands 3879 points3880 points  (150 children)

2016 was a simpler time. We were all so young then, so innocent. Why, I remember a time when a sitting US president was ridiculed for the color of his suit.

[–]greeperfi 2308 points2309 points  (46 children)

Yeah but HE ORDERED DIJON MUSTARD. #mustardgate2014

[–]StevieMJH 1390 points1391 points  (24 children)

He even called Kanye a jackass! How offensive! How could a sitting President use such coarse language?!

[–]LovelyK1000 600 points601 points  (12 children)

Well he's from a shit hole country. And it's true! He is!

[–]DoesntEatBabies 187 points188 points  (1 child)

Can i say it?

I'm gonna say it.

[–]SeegurkeK 242 points243 points  (1 child)

There is a nice theory that the world actually did end 2012, because everything afterwards doesn't really feel real does it?

[–]ICanHasACat 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Reality jumped the shark.

[–]codevii 888 points889 points  (7 children)

Remember way back when a first lady couldn't walk around with bare arms without taking the wrath of right wing nuts?

LOL, Those were the days...

[–]BigHouseMaiden 222 points223 points  (1 child)

Now we can get full frontal FLOTUS - with photos leaked by POTUS to the NYPost.

[–]YooperTrooper 59 points60 points  (1 child)

'member when Barack fisted Michelle on stage with a terrorist fist jab?

[–]Logpile98 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Barack fisted Michelle on stage

He did WHAT NOW?!?!

with a terrorist fist jab

Whew what a relief!

[–]Princess_and_a_wench 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Pfffffft. You leftist libtards. Sure, Trump may be breaking relationships with nations across the globe and makin’ smoochies with porn stars.

BUT Obama eats arugula. And let’s not forget that suit.

Somethin somethin Crooked Hillary.

Edit: adding /s to this. Thought it was obvious but I had to get myself unbanned from this sub lol.

[–]jc91480 270 points271 points  (37 children)

He did have some class, tho.

[–]oldbastardbob 553 points554 points  (28 children)

And a wife that would never in a million fucking years wear something like that in public.

[–]howlinbluesman 340 points341 points  (10 children)

Let's hope we can move into the 2009 Onion era where we can have President Diamond Joe washing his Trans Am in the White House driveway.

[–]SteerClearBigTuna 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I miss the Biden articles so much.

[–]rattatally 18.6k points18.6k points  (492 children)

You'd think at least one person would have said, "Hey, maybe that's not such a good idea."

[–]1stLtObvious 737 points738 points  (11 children)

Like she'd be caught dead in any piece of clothing that didn't cost hundreds of dollars otherwise. This was totally intentional.

[–]jerkstorefranchisee 522 points523 points  (2 children)

Yeah, the fact that it's 40 bucks is actually pretty damning. If it was some monstrously expensive designer jacket, I could potentially be persuaded to believe that it was something she already owned and hadn't taken out in a while. 40 bucks? That's intentional.

[–]Not_on_a_log 328 points329 points  (1 child)

Also it was in Texas where the overnight low was nearly 80°, why in the hell do you need a jacket?

[–]i_give_you_gum 135 points136 points  (0 children)

To show that you don't care... about how hot it is.

[–]jguess06 2646 points2647 points  (62 children)

Except this is what they want. Hey everyone, look at this jacket, infuriating right? Good, good. Now you'll stop paying attention to ______ (insert actual atrocity they're deflecting from here).

[–]NinjaLanternShark 1506 points1507 points  (41 children)

Welcome to another round of Trump: cunning and manipulative evil genius, or straight-up stupid man child? Place your bets ladies and gentlemen!

[–]mobeen1497 301 points302 points  (12 children)

Sometimes I feel like we live in a satirical universe similar to The Simpson's or Family Guy. With space force, we might even become futurama.

[–]rileyk 67 points68 points  (2 children)

Look up Billy West doing Trump lines in Zapp Brannigan voice

[–]rslash2 838 points839 points  (31 children)

it was done on purpose, dont let a crisis go to waste, oh and btw the budget for food stamps are being cut this week.

[–]AllegrettoVivamente 406 points407 points  (20 children)

Or the more likely situation. "Hey put this one so that we can get angry at the democrats for criticising the first ladies wardrobe"

[–]helium_farts 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. Is anyone really buying that someone who puts so much work into their wardrobe just "accidentally" wore a $40 in Texas in the middle of summer?

[–]AnEmancipatedSpambot 898 points899 points  (100 children)

The fact that there isn't one just one person that is there to do that terrifies me of this administration.

Not one voice of reason is in that group

[–]krakenaut 609 points610 points  (44 children)

To be fair, being the single voice of reason in a large, loud group does not sound like a fun job

[–]dvasquez93 510 points511 points  (28 children)

Can confirm

was the risk management and safety officer for a fraternity

would never do that again

would rather do it again 100 times than be the voice of reason in Trump's white house.

[–]wearer_of_boxers 113 points114 points  (3 children)

Sounds like a job for Mike Rowe.

[–]djevikkshar 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Dont you put that evil on him

[–]killer8424 548 points549 points  (32 children)

The real scary part is that she was most likely told to wear this by someone else. It’s a $39 jacket. Do you think that someone that adept at gold-digging would ever wear a $39 jacket?

[–]thinkingdoing 483 points484 points  (12 children)

It’s from Ivanka’s signature “Complicit” fashion line.

[–]PLandH 205 points206 points  (4 children)

I hate that I have to look this up to see if it's true. What have we done to rationality?

[–]jerkstorefranchisee 115 points116 points  (0 children)

That's my thinking exactly. If it were some big deal designer shit, maybe she already owned it and it's a coincidence, but there's no version of reality where she's out there buying a 40 dollar jacket for herself

[–]JaredLemonSauce 46 points47 points  (2 children)

maybe that one person thought itd be funnier to not say anything, I'd probably do that

[–]TheKodachromeMethod 13.4k points13.4k points  (312 children)

Oh. I thought that was meant figuratively, but nope it literally says that. Jesus Christ...

[–]CitizenCAN_mapleleaf 5488 points5489 points  (55 children)

Even if she were just spending the day running errands, is raw unbridled apathy really on message?

[–]chironomidae 1142 points1143 points  (3 children)

Just imagine if Michelle Obama had worn this coat to a luncheon, much less to visit detained children.

[–]farmerlesbian 1243 points1244 points  (2 children)

If Michelle Obama had been photographed wearing this jacket in her own home it would have been a national incident.

[–]katcruise 306 points307 points  (0 children)

If there are just been a rumor that she wore this jacket in her own home it would have been

[–]WideEyedWand3rer 2735 points2736 points  (25 children)

She's married to Trump, I think apathy is the only emotion she has left at this point.

[–]29100610478021 467 points468 points  (0 children)

I shudder at the thought of being touched by that man.

[–]CitizenCAN_mapleleaf 566 points567 points  (15 children)

We all know he doesn't make her feel anything

[–]Matterom 527 points528 points  (7 children)

[–]KillerInfection 307 points308 points  (3 children)

Pretty sure she's all out of that exact reaction anymore.

[–]jrobthehuman 416 points417 points  (12 children)

I think apathy actually is really on message for her. She kind of flaunts it. "Oh, I need to chose a cause to champion? Sure, how about cyber bullying."

[–]Phillythrowaway19104 444 points445 points  (0 children)

"Hmmm. Cyber bullying. Well, my husband's so damned good at it I'll bet he can give me a few pointers! Sure, I'll do cyber bullying as my cause!"

"Ms. First Lady, you know that we are against cyber bullying, not for it... right?"

"I really don't care, do u?"

[–]JackAceHole 2030 points2031 points  (44 children)

I like how her defenders are saying, "THERE WAS NO HIDDEN MESSAGE". Like fucking duh. There's really no other interpretation for the message.

[–]Pandemojo 155 points156 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot of things, but it ain’t hidden.

[–]TunnelSnake88 758 points759 points  (17 children)

Yeah her spokesman released a statement that basically said, "it's just a jacket, there's no message, don't you guys have anything better to do?"

Like you really expected her to wear that and not have anyone ask questions?

[–]throwthisaway8863 524 points525 points  (5 children)

she also hashtagged #shecares in her tweet even though the jacket literally says the exact opposite. i miss when facts mattered.

[–]Bannakaffalatta1 396 points397 points  (10 children)

Like... I can't even imagine how that's not on purpose. She had to walk by several people/assistants to get to that point.

Everyone had to say nothing in order for her to get to that point. It's honestly staggering.

[–]shillyshally 240 points241 points  (7 children)

Has to be on purpose. Perhaps Trump made her go do the 'oh, look, we care' thing at the border and she is broadcasting her real feelings on the subject. In any case, whatever the impetus, this is meant to convey how she feels.

[–]Jonruy 824 points825 points  (143 children)

The most generous interpretation I could give to this is some kind of living art piece. Like someone who wears a shirt out of raw bacon to protest animal cruelty, or something. I don't think this is actually the case, but Melania has been virtually non-existent until now, so I'm not at all certain what her normal behaviors are.

[–]DoesRedditConfuseYou 985 points986 points  (129 children)

She's a model married to a billionaire, she probably hasn't touched anything made by Zara in last 30 years.

[–]flannery-culp 239 points240 points  (4 children)

Yeah this jacket retails for like $34. This was purposeful.

[–]twss416 139 points140 points  (0 children)

She could have got a jacket from her daughter and not a $39 one from Zara. And even still, why would anyone wear any graphic emblazoned apparel to a meeting and finally - optics is so important, people are tasked with focusing on how folks will smile, wave or even walk.

But this slipped by?

[–]Kritical02 608 points609 points  (109 children)

Not to mention have some fucking tact. Can she not read what it says on the back? Does she not realize how it could come across? Did none of her assistant s mention a thing? or were they all complicit and chuckling along.

[–]reedemerofsouls 392 points393 points  (45 children)

The point is this is not something she'd wear normally, so probably, it was meant (by her or by someone else) to send a message.

[–]ffxivthrowaway03 444 points445 points  (37 children)

This almost feels like the situations where people in asian countries wear shirts written in broken english simply because "english characters are cool." Meanwhile they don't speak a word of english and don't know they're wearing a shirt that says "Fack the police" or something equally ridiculous.

Except, y'know, the part where this woman is the fucking First Lady and all.

[–]hurtsdonut_ 311 points312 points  (28 children)

And she speaks English.

[–]skankunt 294 points295 points  (26 children)

And apparently 4 other languages. She isn't stupid, which makes this all the more puzzling.

[–]Xelif 611 points612 points  (19 children)

Conspiracy theory: it was a /r/MaliciousCompliance move by Melania

  • Trump: "you will go visit the kids from shithole countries, they're not sending their best, but we're putting them in bigly yuge camps, people are saying these are the best camps, just tremendous camps"

  • Melania: "...no, I don't want to, this policy is evil"

  • Trump: "damn it woman you do what I say"

  • Melania: [searches for most offensive clothing to wear]

[–]AnotherThroneAway 228 points229 points  (0 children)

That is chillingly possible.

[–]11010110101010101010 162 points163 points  (6 children)

One would hope, but just like with Ivanka, we should presume absolute acceptance and agreement with trump unless actions and words say otherwise.

[–]twss416 204 points205 points  (0 children)

Except no one wears those shirts to meetings of any type, much less something like this.

You think she needed a graphic, $39 Zara jacket? Her step daughter could have given her one from her collection. You really think the billionaire presidents wife shops at Zara?

Have you ever seen a logo or graphic emblazoned on any government employee while on duty?

[–]newsposts 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Thats funny, because the message answers all your questions clearly

[–]FriesWithThat 123 points124 points  (5 children)

thought that was meant figuratively

As in wearing Armani to a concentration camp would somehow send the wrong message...

[–]human_trampoline 194 points195 points  (4 children)

Hugo Boss would be an even worse choice.

[–]HollywoodCote 5367 points5368 points  (88 children)

I'm not sure how much more of this timeline I can take....

[–]ApeofBass 383 points384 points  (3 children)

I wanna go to the 2000 Gore victory timeline. Sure it'd be boring but... Politics should be boring.

[–]PelagianEmpiricist 170 points171 points  (1 child)

Evil Abed please save us

[–]btallredi 634 points635 points  (0 children)

Welp. This is peak not-the-onion.

[–]TooShiftyForYou 9704 points9705 points  (199 children)

"It's a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today's important visit to Texas, I hope this isn't what the media is going to choose to focus on." the First Lady's spokesperson said.

There's no hidden message, it's actually in big bold letters.

[–]chumprock 2743 points2744 points  (27 children)

Getting the media to focus on it, so then you can call out the media for focusing on the First-lady's jacket, and not the poor children she was going to visit.

[–]cyberpunk1Q84 1030 points1031 points  (4 children)

FOX: Obama wearing a tan suit? He should resign for being such an embarrassment!

FOX: The liberal media is calling out the First Lady for wearing a jacket with an incendiary message - what a bunch of snowflakes!

[–]York_Villain 612 points613 points  (1 child)

Yep. The clothing worn by a president and especially the first lady is a heavily curated thing. There is no way this wasn't done on purpose.

[–]kumibug 3707 points3708 points  (116 children)

It’s a jacket. In Texas. In June. You don’t accidentally wear that...

[–]notyourvader 2695 points2696 points  (49 children)

And its 40 bucks. She wouldn't wear anything that cheap if it weren't intended as a message. This is taunting.

[–]deletedmyoldaccount_ 595 points596 points  (12 children)

I agree that compared to her usual outfits/clothing choices, the fact this is a cheap jacket stood out...combined with what is written on the back...you cannot convince me that this wasn't an intentional decision.

[–]savage_engineer 232 points233 points  (3 children)

I tend to live by the maxim "don't attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity"...

But in this case, considering how the only thing we have seen that she genuinely cares about is her fashion and appearance, there is no way I can believe this was "simply" stupid.

It's impossible for her not to have read the huge wording before she put that on, and it would require us to believe that she is way below average intelligence not to have considered the literal message she was sending.

I don't think she is a medical idiot. She knew what she was doing. This goes beyond "she should have known", because she isn't that stupid.

[–]Kylerj96 1239 points1240 points  (19 children)

She was at her most sympathetic last month when she went missing.

Edit: i feel... strange that this is one of my top comments.

[–]Vocalyze 677 points678 points  (26 children)

Yes, because Melania generally wears peasant clothing for business trips.

[–][deleted] 395 points396 points  (18 children)

According to CNN,

The $39 jacket is last season Zara.

[–]cyberpunk1Q84 661 points662 points  (6 children)

Not only is it cheap (based on her means), but it’s also last season? This jacket was definitely worn on purpose.

[–]Alethiometrist 258 points259 points  (2 children)

It also just looks like something a teenager/young adult would wear, even if you ignore the message on the back. And while I can't say I've spent that much time studying Melania's wardrobe, I'm fairly certain she doesn't normally wear stuff like this.

[–]UnicornPanties 180 points181 points  (0 children)

I've spent a fair amount of time studying Melania's wardrobe so I've done this hard work for you.

I can confirm she does not normally wear stuff like this. In fact, I was very impressed to notice her sneakers (bright white and new) rather than her more common sky-high sexy stilettos (which make me jealous but my knees quake in terror).

[–]woohoo 616 points617 points  (5 children)

First time in 20 years she has touched a garment that retails under $50

[–]Oak987 1255 points1256 points  (51 children)

She is an immigrant, by the way.

[–]saintofhate 609 points610 points  (4 children)

Who worked illegally.

[–]InuMiroLover 390 points391 points  (0 children)

But thats okay because shes from a country thats not Mexico.

[–]strangeelement 159 points160 points  (0 children)

And got her parents in with that "chain migration" Trump pretends to hate so much.

But they're white, so it's different.

[–]T_sardonicus 369 points370 points  (1 child)

Who may or may not have committed fraud with her visa, and her parents' immigration status is yet "unclear" and documents are not made public, despite demands for public release of Obama's birth certificate

Fuck Melania, I have no sympathy for her

[–]Amilo159 5621 points5622 points  (65 children)

That'd be like G.W.Bush holding his first press conference after the 9/11 incident wearing a "Burn baby, burn" t-shirt.

[–]MinimalisticUsername 1323 points1324 points  (19 children)

I was trying to think of a good analogy - that's a pretty good one

[–]PharmerDale 703 points704 points  (8 children)

How about a shirt with Shaggy's lyrics "It wasn't me"

[–]irrationalskeptic 212 points213 points  (0 children)

Ron Howard narrator "It was."

[–]SpareLiver 205 points206 points  (2 children)

It's like a man bragging about having the tallest building in New York thanks to 9/11 and then running for president on a platform of patriotism.

[–]nichecopywriter 255 points256 points  (0 children)

The gay agenda really is coming together in our year of 20gayteen and I am living for it

[–]HokieGirl07 429 points430 points  (7 children)

I remember seeing this at Zara last year and thinking why would anyone over 16 buy this?? She also has a personal stylist who should know better, but let’s be real, she should know better. No WAY this wasn’t intentional.

[–]subliminali 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Seriously. In what context would it ever make sense for the First Lady of the United States to wear this jacket? It seems especially insane with the context of today, but wtf why own this at all when you know you’re literally representing the country and the only remarkable thing about you is what you look like.

[–]craxlambda 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing, this is for teenagers. Especially odd considering she was a model, and not to mention the fucking first lady.

[–]QueenAnneBoleynTudor 345 points346 points  (9 children)

You know who else said to ignore what they were wearing, it meant nothing? Anne Boleyn, who wore yellow upon news that her rival, Catherine of Aragon had died. Yellow was worn by executioners in Spain at the time, and was considered to be a "joyful" color at the time culturally.

[–]rileyk 181 points182 points  (3 children)

Great point, interesting fact, and I have a feeling you've been waiting to pull this little fact out for a while, judging by your name

[–]talleyhooo 490 points491 points  (7 children)

I saw this headline on CNN and thought it was clickbait. Nope!!!

[–]Chilipepah 132 points133 points  (3 children)

I thought that it was somehow implied that she didn’t care by wearing that jacket. IT ACTUALLY SAYS IT ON THE BACK, HOLY FUCK!

[–]TerminusFox 4083 points4084 points  (286 children)

I’d love for any republican to tell me why this is okay or that they wouldn’t shred Michelle obama if she had the audacity to do something so incredibly stupid

[–]TechyDad 3692 points3693 points  (144 children)

The right tried to tear Michelle Obama for wearing a sleeveless dress and her husband for wearing a tan suit. But wearing a jacket that says "I really don't care, do u?" is apparently perfectly fine.

[–]AFlaccoSeagulls 2132 points2133 points  (84 children)

Tan suit? Outrage.

Sleeveless dress? Outrage.

Wearing this jacket to visit detained children? "I hope the media isn't going to focus on her wardrobe..."

[–]DGer 752 points753 points  (44 children)

Even beyond the whole being on a trip to visit detained children, what a weird thing for the first lady to own and wear in public.

[–]TX4Ever 598 points599 points  (28 children)

That's what kills me. It seems this is a $30 something jacket, when has Melania NOT worn something super expensive and designer-y. Plus I live in Texas and wonder whyyyyyy she would want a jacket right now, in this super hot weather. She absolutely had to know what she was wearing and why.

[–]gowronatemybaby7 312 points313 points  (9 children)

Wearing this jacket to visit detained children? "I hope the media isn't going to focus on her wardrobe..."

"Tonight, on Hannity: More hypocrisy from so-called 'tolerant left'. Raving liberals in the mainstream media have got some interesting marching orders from on high today. The same people who are always lecturing us, real Americans like you and me, about sexism, have devoted hours to their latest hysterical craze: criticizing our First Lady on her appearance. Take a look at this clip:

Roll clip of Rachel Maddow making an allusion to this jacket being in poor taste, carefully cut so that it doesn't show her follow up statement about how it was probably just a gaffe and not really a statement about Melania's views on this situation.

After the break, we'll give you the real story and let you know how it's really HILLARY who should have given more thought to what she was wearing.

And after that, an inside scoop Hannity exclusive. Did Barack Obama personally order immigrant children to be indoctrinated about transgenderism while in ICE custody? We'll be right back."

After the break, we'll give you the real story and let you know how it's really HILLARY who should have given more thought to what she was wearing.

Nah it's more like "After the break, where was the left's outrage over these incidents?! <show clips of Michelle wearing sleeveless dress>"

[–]reluctanteverything 282 points283 points  (13 children)

Every day these people do something that makes me say, if Obama did that the Republicans would freak out. I’m exhausted.

[–]zirtbow 165 points166 points  (10 children)

Just wait til a Democrat is back in office and they're supposedly offended by everything he (or she) does.

[–]baatkoli 72 points73 points  (1 child)

Team McCain criticized Obama for drinking Honest Tea too.

[–]almightyshellfish 385 points386 points  (3 children)

THIS! I can literally hear Sean Hannity losing his fucking mind over Michelle Obama wearing this same jacket. He'd talk about it for days! Fox and Friends would cluck their tongues and wax nostalgic about a time when the White House was a respectful place. The whole thing would be fucking gross. And if the response from Michelle's press secretary was the same as Melania's (it's just a jacket), Fox would take that as a sign of just how it of touch liberals are, and how shameful it is.

[–]CadetCovfefe 196 points197 points  (2 children)

Hannity is very good at what he does. He could stretch it out for years, and his viewers would not be tired by repeatedly hearing it.

how it of touch liberals are

Ahh, the coastal liberal elites! Now listen to Hannity (Long Islander) in his Fox News studio (Manhattan) talking about how Trump, from his skyscraper in Manhattan, understands "real" Americans on the mainland.

[–]Cockwombles 1423 points1424 points  (43 children)

Imagine if Jackie Kennedy did that, or any of the other first ladies actually.

Actually I can't imagine any fucking person doing that, and I know some pretty classless human beings.

[–]usernameofchris 640 points641 points  (19 children)

Fox News would be flipping their shit if Michelle Obama wore anything like this. Hell, they gave Barack shit for wearing a tan suit. But because her name is Trump, they'll give her a pass.

[–]zirtbow 248 points249 points  (4 children)

Really it's a party thing. I'm pretty sure their new review process is "Did a Republican do this? It's great. Defend it.... Did any other party do it? It's terrible. Create a story to incite anger about it."

[–]AFlaccoSeagulls 107 points108 points  (4 children)

I can see the Fox News Chyron now (during Bill's presidency):

"Hillary Clinton visits children wearing 'I don't really care. Do you?' jacket. Why do the Democrats hate children?"

[–]reedemerofsouls 113 points114 points  (3 children)

Hillary Clinton got shit for wearing expensive jackets. Not offensive or even ugly jackets. Just expensive ones.

[–]gnomestress 103 points104 points  (3 children)

If Michelle Obama had done it there'd be riots.

[–]OhOkayFairEnough 149 points150 points  (0 children)

I feel like at this point she could straight up tweet "Hahahaah, you're all fucked, the secret police are about to kick down most of your doors and take you to camps" and the White House press would go "She's experimenting with slam poetry"

[–]CunninghamsLawmaker 1314 points1315 points  (16 children)

I never would have thought you could be unqualified to be First Lady, but here we are.

[–]BizzyM 369 points370 points  (8 children)

That's ok. I'm sure he's got a fourth wife waiting somewhere to be called up.

[–][deleted] 593 points594 points  (50 children)

Can we get a pic of this?

Edit: Thank you for the links. Unbelievably tasteless. Really, of all the things to pick to wear on a visit like this?!?

[–]BuckyFuckingDent 462 points463 points  (30 children)

[–]ProlapsedProstate 394 points395 points  (20 children)

Why is she wearing a jacket during the summer?

[–]ZomNomNomBeeZ 73 points74 points  (5 children)

And why do you need a jacket to go to Texas in summertime?

[–]tenacious-g 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It was 80 and muggy in DC, when she wore it, for what it’s worth.

Not exactly jacket weather.

[–]ContractorConfusion 268 points269 points  (9 children)

It was 83 degrees F out, and muggy as hell, this afternoon in that area.

You know who's wearing a jacket outside right now? No one.
That jacket is a statement.

[–]Alethiometrist 357 points358 points  (17 children)

It's stuff like this that makes the whole "we're living in a simulation" theory sound less crazy with each new day. Whoever is in charge of pushing the buttons is just having a laugh now.

[–]Orzufancylad 88 points89 points  (4 children)

Sometimes there is a error in code that can cause cascading errors.

Seems to be the issue currently. We might need a quick reboot or scrap the whole thing and start over.

[–]DrColdReality 215 points216 points  (7 children)

And that's just the START of the fun on this trip:

Jeez, you would think Melania would sympathize with immigrants getting locked into hellish cages against their will...

Bonus points for the unintentionally honest reaction from WH spokesliar Stephanie Grisham concerning the message on the jacket:

"There was no hidden message."

Well, right. It's right out there in the open...

[–]NeilPoonHandler 463 points464 points  (6 children)

Jesus Christ, we really are in the darkest, dumbest timeline.

[–]NearFluid 112 points113 points  (4 children)

Maybe a dog whistle to the base saying we don’t really care.

[–]SoldierHawk 24 points25 points  (0 children)

But dog whistles are generally coded and subtle.

This is many things, but it is NOT subtle.

[–]Shirlenator 253 points254 points  (9 children)

The only thing I can think of is that she hates being the first lady and hates Trump so she is doing what she can to try to help it self destruct.

[–]minardif1 129 points130 points  (3 children)

Yeah, she’s one of the least visible first ladies ever (certainly in recent times) and there has been evidence that she really wants no part of doing what they usually do. Trump is awful, but I can’t get any clue about Melania. She seems to have done the bare minimum expected of a candidate’s wife since the campaign, and some of the things have been so embarrassing that she almost has to have done them on purpose (this, the speech that was practically a copy of Michelle Obama’s, focusing on bullying when that’s all Trump does, etc.) But they almost seem like attempts at sabotage, not support.

[–]Laylelo 138 points139 points  (1 child)

And the White House spokesperson said there was “no hidden message”. Because it’s written right there.

No need to feel sorry for Melania any more. I know some people feel like she’s miserable and trapped - but she’s clearly as narcissistic and incapable of empathy as her husband.

[–]VisenyasRevenge 133 points134 points  (1 child)

At least her clothes arent completely lying

[–]Unfinishedmeal 159 points160 points  (21 children)

Jesus fucking christ. How do you wear shit like that knowing full well you will be photographed.

[–]Fapper_McFapper 266 points267 points  (15 children)

Someone else mentioned that this is a tactic being used to derail the current news cycle. I’m not sure if that is the case or not. But for a rich woman whom I’ve never seen wear clothing with words priced at $39.00 this all seems very odd.

[–]Unfinishedmeal 43 points44 points  (8 children)

From what is the question because focus is still on Trump’s policy
