May her cancer never come back!

Amen to that.

My grandma has had cancer 5 times she 75ish and just overcame it again last year which was her 5th time.

Your grandma is tough af. That's incredible.

On her birthday too

Can’t believe she’s 57. Damn.

That's a hot 57 year old

She is definitely one of the women that gets more beautiful the older she gets. Like a fine wine.

That’s what good genes and a billion dollars can do.

55 points · 6 months ago

what the fuck

She was born very wealthy, starred on one of the most popular shows of all time (Seinfeld), and had been leading one of HBOs most popular shows. And she was also the heir to her father's multi billion dollar estate ($3.4b in 2006).

Yeah well being born into a shit-ton of money sure didn’t kill her ambition. She has steadily worked, and arguably successfully since Seinfeld.

She’s also known for being a really, really good person.

So much God damn money, this baller could become a force in Hollywood if she wanted to.

So glad to hear she's done with treatment best of luck to her.

Chemotherapy is only one step of treatment. She may have more to go, possibly a lot more.

There's lumpectomy, mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy...some or all of them, in just about any order depending on the treatment schedule she and her oncologist decided on.

So, don't be surprised if weeks or months from now we hear again about her finishing additional treatment, it can be a very long process with a lot of steps.

Finishing chemo is a hell of a milestone though.

368 points · 6 months ago

Tell me about. My testicular cancer just relapsed after being clear for three months. RIP.

Even if you don't have shit luck like me, it's something that hangs over your head for years.

I understand. My mom just went to the Dr in her new town. She was freaked the fuck out about doctors after having cancer twice. After a full going-over, she’s celebrating 20 years cancer free—-her Dr was like “at this point, it is like you’ve never had it.” There is hope! She is 69 and enjoying life with her husband, daughter, son-in-law, and beautiful grand-baby.

Well, all the fuck. I'm sorry man. I hope treatment is successful again.

Keep your head up buddy! It’s been a couple years for me since dealing with TC and still think about it everyday. You’ll get through it!

I’m not a guy so I don’t know what you’re going through but I do have the female version. Ovarian. Hang in there, buddy. I love you.

All the best to you, you'll beat it. It just takes more than one attempt, just like it did with Furious Pete. He made it and so will you! Get well soon!!!

What should we be on the lookout for? I thought I found a lump on my but and then got laughed out the doctors office. Thanks doc. Nut*

You got this amigo.

Peace and love brother no man should have to fight for their life to keep the gents. All the best. Cancer is a fucker.

I had TC in 2011 and with treatment survived. Had my first kid 2 months ago! Dont let it beat you up man if you ever need to talk inbox me!

Aww nuts, man :\

You got this tho. Next time you go into the doctor's office, just know that some random internet person believes in your ability to weather this storm!

Sorry to hear that brother :(
Cancer is the worst and the side effects of treatment are horrible too as I’m sure you well know. That being said; you might be down but you’re not out.

Those would’ve likely been done before chemo. Surgical intervention usually comes first, then radio onc, finally chemo/hormone therapy. Glad to see she’s seemingly out of the woods.

How do people miss such an obvious reference???

There could be people in this thread that only know her from Seinfeld.

So good. I hadn’t seen it until September, but I binged it all in about a week. Everyone is such a terrible person but I love them. Except Jonah. Fuck Jonah

Jonah is actually my favorite. He's just as shitty as everyone else, but he doesn't know it.

Richard, Catherine and Marjorie are the only redeemable characters in the bunch.

I love the running joke that Richard is absolutely brilliant and knows about seemingly everything, only to be ignored. Works really well with the “totally incompetent” theme.

As someone's who has been on chemo, I gotta say I feel happy for her, because that isn't an experience that I would wish on my worst enemy.

I had chemo without access to medical marijuana. I hope Jeff sessions and pat mccrory get cancer.

I'm still on chemo (one to go!) and said fuck it and broke the law, repeatedly. My state has draconian Marijuana laws. Because my health is more important than laws, and more pressing, my 2 year old needs his father growing up.

[deleted]
228 points · 6 months ago

Someone going thru chemo should have access to virtually anything on the planet that would make them feel better. I say this without really knowing how bad chemo is, I've never experienced it first-hand or really seen anyone else have to go thru it. I've just read about how horrible it is.

Seriously if you said crack cocaine made you feel better during chemo treatment you should just get it. Fucking insane that a handful of old men just get to decide what's best for hundreds of millions of people. Insane.

I can just see Tyrone Biggums putting his head in a microwave now.

“Just gonna get a little cancer, Stan!”

I smoke rocks!

My aunt had a 3 lb tumor in her colon, after a few rounds of chemo she was told it was terminal and there was nothing more they could do. She asked for stronger pain medication but was refused because she might get addicted. She passed three months later.

[deleted]

my God that's horrifying

i would have scored her literally anything she wanted in that case if she was my mother, snuck her in the pills and all that. awful.

Best of luck to you sir.

My dad said screw the state. Sadly he passed before even finishing chemo, it was only 6.5 weeks after his diagnosis. He wouldn't have made it that last few weeks without smoking and using edibles. I hate that my state may among the last to legalize it, even for medicinal usage.

You will be in my thoughts as you finish your chemo!! <3

Shit, dude, good luck. I hope you feel better soon and have regular access to medicine/marijuana.

Fuck pat mccrory

How does pot help with chemo?

It can help with nausea and increase appetite

And cancer itself is all kinds of sleepless anxiety on top of the physical chemo side effects.

They prescribe piles of other drugs that do what pot does alone. This is why most of the US has already legalized it in one form or another. There are fewer states still criminalizing it than have legalized.

They prescribe piles of other drugs that do what pot does alone.

And now you know why it was kept illegal for so long.

Yep. My granny just got off her chemo a year ago and has terrible insomnia from it.

5 more replies

Plain and simple it’s incredible at defeating nausea. One hit is enough for me even when I’m battling the worst hangover.

3 more replies

There are tons of articles out there. I don’t know if I believe all the anti-cancer properties stuff but people with a bunch of different illnesses and ailments use pot. It’s a way to relax your mind and body without narcotics or prescription drugs.

36 points · 6 months ago

Also helps with nausea, lack of appetite, anxiety, insomnia etc etc

I gained about 30-40 pounds when I went through treatment. I was taking prednisone and had the appetite of a Velociraptor. I would eat six to seven times a day and I would still feel like I was physically starving. Thankfully I never dealt with the nausea or vomiting even though they expected me to.

There’s also bone pain which fucking sucks. And not realizing you have chemo brain until a few months later when it feels like someone took the blinders off of you. I went ....OH SHIT, I really was forgetting everything.

Good times. Fuck you cancer.

SAME HERE. Today is actually the last day I have to take my meds, so I'm excited for this endless appetite to go away!

Some believe it prevents/cures cancer. If we ignore that, it will still:

Increase appetite
Make you sleep better
Youre doing chemo, why not be blazed.

Edit: it also reduces naseua. Ive have mornings where I've had stomach bugs with naseua and pot has allowed me to go to work and get paid, eliminating my symptoms. It's me go-to medicine for almost anything.

It’s actually helped with my nausea more so than the prescribed nausea pills.

I got my diagnosis in August, and she announced hers in September. I’d actually kind of forgotten she was fighting this at the same time I was. Now she’s finished and I have just over a week left. I can’t say how amazing it is to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Right on, JLD. She fucking did it.

Glad you're almost done!! Chemo is fucking terrible

541 points · 6 months ago · edited 6 months ago

Totally. It felt like someone else had been wearing my body and over used it. Like they gave me a budget version of my body.

Chemo and radiation just completely wear me out. I haven't had any problems with nausea/vomiting, I just don't have the energy or motivation to do anything. I have to force myself to do even the simplest tasks, and usually I'm only doing one in a day.

I'll sure be happy on Friday when I finish my last treatment.

Congrats to you!!!! Keep fighting, friend. I believe in you. 💗

Nasty ride.

Another Year of radiation? You'd better turn into a superhero by the time you're done!

That was from '89-'91.

Long time ago...long time in my rear view mirror. :)

12 points · 6 months ago

I've had it twice and nothing makes me feel better than hearing that somebody is still alive today, who had it in 89. Thank you so much for sharing. I feel like I only hear stories of people dying. Bravo to you♥

1 more reply

Glad to hear that. I can't imagine 2 years of treatments. Most all of my patients' radiation treatments are two months at most (unless they're coming back for recurrences) and it can be hell on them.

[deleted]
8 points · 6 months ago

My husband went through 39 radiation treatments for head and neck cancer. It was hell. He is alive and well. It has been 6 years since his last radiation. His last one, it got to him. He was so sick from all of the rad's, he hardly remembers the entire next month after.

Glad to know he's doing well. Head and Neck radiation treatments are probably the most difficult to tolerate between the immobilization required and the nearly-impossible to avoid side effects. Even with all the latest technologies and treatment techniques I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy.

Money can obviously help a lot in health care, but a lot of those comments are missing the fact Breast cancer usually has an excellent prognosis in general, especially when caught early. Hell if she didn't get a mastectomy then it sounds like hers was fortunately caught very early.

She still may have a mastectomy. Often chemo is the first step and then comes surgery and then radiation. Source: Am a cancer researcher for 20 years who has 5 weeks of chemo left before my mastectomy (and then radiation).
