The lizards in my backyard are more smart and interesting than this try hard overhyped useless robot..

She's a scam

[–]Smoke-away 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't understand all the hype around Sophia. It's just a chatbot with somewhat realistic facial movements. Anybody following AI knows the software is more important than the hardware and Sofia's software is pretty lackluster compared to Google, Baidu, Amazon, Apple, etc.

So the only important feature is really the robotic facial movements. If you combined that with Boston Dynamics' Atlas robot running on better A.I. software then I might be interested.

Obviously she isn't, otherwise the inventors wouldn't be showing her off all over the world.

She might not be nearly as good as you'd like, but that doesn't make her a scam. You know what you're getting with Sofia.

She is answering questions in a way not even the Google AI or Watson are nearly capable, it's so obviously scripted.

[–]boytjie 0 points1 point  (1 child)

it's so obviously scripted.

Really? (Genuine question). I suspect this but I want to believe.... Do you have proof you can refer me to?

[–]RobertThorn2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides that it's obvious you would need access to the robot for a "proof"... Instead read this: https://www.theverge.com/2017/11/10/16617092/sophia-the-robot-citizen-ai-hanson-robotics-ben-goertzel and this: https://liljat.fi/2017/11/humanoid-robot-sophia-sad-hoax-harms-ai-research/ It's a shame how the media, investors and ai fans fall for this scam.

Nah, I don't think so. In the modern era, something like that would have been indisputably leaked by now. I just think you're underestimating the state of the art in AI (& what companies like Google & IBM have achieved).

Denying the achievements of humanity out of incredulity is a long-standing tradition of the conspiracy-minded.

You could write this comment or you could simply google "sophia robot scam" and inform yourself what ai experts say.

Sophia is a scripted robot made for PR and investments towards his developer, which they indirectly say themselves.

I think we're all bozos on this bus.

[–]haven_taclue 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Interesting reference there...bozos on the bus. Fireside theater?

[–]ArgentStonecutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firesign theater, you win one half (0.5) interwebs.

This so reminded me of when Clem broke the President.

Now I want to try a few of these old chestnuts on it:

Why does the porridge bird lay its eggs in the air?

Read ME, Doctor Memory. Do you remember the future, Doctor? ... Forget it!

lol what did you expect without a coherent theory of AGI? the humans are still largely clueless on that :| https://vzn1.wordpress.com/2018/01/04/secret-blueprint-path-to-agi-novelty-detection-seeking/

[–]72414dreams 2 points3 points  (6 children)

what a wall of text. he finally gets around to claiming that novelty seeking is going to be the path to AGI though, in case anybody was wondering what that blue link was all about.

[–]vznvzn 0 points1 point  (5 children)

and your pt/ review is so much more powerful/ authoritative stated in 3rd person

[–]vznvzn 0 points1 point  (3 children)

yw! "wall of text"? have you ever read a scientific paper? its grouped into paragraphs. thought the paragraphs arent too long in comparison. tried to keep em short. did you have any reaction to the contents (vs cosmetics)?

[–]72414dreams 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I thought it was an interesting read, it was a bit tough for me to hang through the beginning, but I can appreciate the author was reflecting the confusing indirectness purposefully. he may even be right, who knows!

[–]vznvzn 0 points1 point  (1 child)

ok thx for the iota )( of "appreciation" :)

[–]72414dreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're welcome, and I wish I understood what's going on with those parentheses.
