I would love to hear a cogent explanation of how this position benefits the US or even more broadly the G6+1

What you'll receive is a screech of right wing talking points and a rant about Hillary being even more corrupt, somehow.

Well, his points:

  1. It was G8, but now it is not G8 because no Russia in

  2. He is worst Russia enemy

  3. Hillary as president would make Russia "Putin is going man" (not sure what this means).

  4. "We" have the world to run

  5. "We" need Russia at negotiations table

On your #3.

Putin's probably going "Man, I wish Hillary won"

It's hard to understand when he talks but someone wrote it out and it makes more sense. Well... It still doesn't make logical sense, I don't think he's ever made logical sense tbh, but it makes grammatical sense.

level 4
187 points3 months ago

He likes to do that to put words in people's mouth's when they speak. He speculates aloud what he thinks some other person would say to fit the moment, and his followers just eat it up.

Like, he says Putin thinks "Man I wish Hillary Won", and now your average idiot has a mental image of poor Putin sitting in the Kremlin shaking his head about how much Trump has gotten in his way. It makes Trump look like the Tough Guy, and that Russia is just sucking up to him, not the other way around. Also makes Hillary look like she'd just hand the keys to the country right over to Putin like a weakling, making Trump seem tougher than Hillary.

Trump uses this manipulation tactic a lot when he speaks.

And it works because their "information" sources don't actually report on any of the negative things he does and if they do then they twist it to somehow be positive.

Well Republicans clearly don't care about stopping him. Maybe he figures if he sucks up to daddy enough the FSB will keep those mean Democrats out of office so he can continue to play tin pot dictator.

level 3

This is something I think a lot of people are blind to. If it was as hard as it was for Obama to meaningfully push back on Russia during the 2016 election because of GOP leaders in Congress and a large swatch of the electorate yelling "rigged election" and "fake news," just imagine what it will be with someone in office who is depending on that foreign interference for support.

Russia will more than likely interfere to a much larger degree this time around, knowing there will be little to no resistance.

level 4
385 points3 months ago

Russia will more than likely interfere to a much larger degree this time around, knowing there will be little to no resistance.

If their goal is to cause the U.S. to violently destabilize, I can't think of a better tactic than upping their game. A huge, thinking, percentage of the population will naturally cry out when it's exposed and a dimmer portion of Americans, nearly as large, will feel the need to defend the crooks.

"They stole the election!" versus "They're trying to steal the election!"

It's almost clever.

level 4
Great Britain
104 points3 months ago

Or maybe it's something as simple as proof of Russian involvement in the 2016 election.

Think about it - Red Don has just spent two full years repeatedly calling the idea he colluded 'fake news' and the right have been treating them as trustworthy allies, so if Russia were to come out and say "Yep, he won thanks to us. Here's the proof, here's what we did and how we did it...and here are the other GOP politicians in our pocket" the right wouldn't just look like fools - they'd be shown up as obvious frauds, liars and traitors. With Trump as the biggest foolish, deceitful traitor of them all. And his ego will NOT allow him to suffer that.

He's so desperate that, as we've seen, he'll completely cave on Russia on every given opportunity while continuing to attack Russia's enemies but I don't think they even need a piss tape or whatever to get it - just manipulating Trump's colossal ego and threatening all his corrupt stooges is enough.

Although they probably do also have a piss tape, probably with kids, as backup kompromat, it's how they work :/

level 5

Crazy thing is, this could all happen... and Trump would still get at least 20%. The crazy factor is somewhere in the mid-twenties.

They have been sold on that for a long time. December 2013: And just days before Putin's address, the Center for Strategic Communications, an influential Kremlin-connected think tank, held a press conference in Moscow to announce its latest report. The title: "Putin: World Conservatism's New Leader." According to excerpts from the report cited in the media, most people yearn for stability and security, favor traditional family values over feminism and gay rights

In case people don't know, there was a Jane Doe who sued him before the election. She was represented by Lisa Bloom and claimed that Trump raped her at Epstein's parties when she was 13.

There was an interesting theory on Trumpcast arrived at by using Trump鈥檚 Razor (think about what the stupidest explanation could be, and that鈥檚 gonna be it 99 times out of 100):

Maybe after all of this time, all Trump really wants is that fucking Trump Tower Moscow. The run for President, the removal of sanctions, the isolating of America from everybody but Russia...maybe all it really is is just him stupidly thinking that鈥檚 what will get Senpai Putin-san to notice him and give him that dumbass building鈥攁nd Putin, knowing this, just keeps dangling 鈥渙ne leetle more favor鈥 over Trump time and again with no intention of ever actually building the tower.

level 4

And keep in mind, the only reason he wants that tower, is probably because he was tricked by Russians into thinking it would be just the best business venture ever.

It's more than that. Trump has always operated on the periphery (and maybe more) of the in the shady organized crime world. And, in the world, the Russians are the new top mafia. And Putin is the absolute leader of the Russians. Trump sees American leaders come and go but Putin is always there. He feels Putin will always stay there on top of what he sees as the most powerful organization in the world (maybe second to the Western "establishment" which Trump has not been allowed to be a full member of). Trump knows that Putin is the person who can make things happen for him internationally. Who knows what agreements these two men have made in secret. But, even if they have not made any, Trump still feels that, in the world he occupies, Putin is the Godfather and will always treat him as such.

What I find absurd is how his supporters toggle an on/off switch in their head on any foreign affairs issue so that no matter what their opponents are always wrong.

"Be tough on [insert country here]? Do you want to get us into war?" turns into "FUCK [insert same country here] AND FUCK ANYONE WHO SAYS AMERICA CAN'T TURN IT INTO A HEAP OF RUBBLE" and then back into "we gotta handle this like mature diplomats, AMERICA FIRST FUCK YEAH."

We saw this with the DPRK when Trump was threatening it last year, then he suddenly started going on about holding a meeting with Kim Jong Un whereupon his followers claimed he was going to bring peace to the peninsula and get the Nobel Peace Prize.

If the meeting doesn't happen or otherwise fails, you can look forward to Trump fans calling for incinerating the North and denouncing any critics of such a course as limp-wristed traitors.

It's for real. Here's the video of his statement. And, a transcription:

You can call it anything you want. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what you call it. It used to be the G8, because Russia was in it, and now Russia's not in it. Now... I love our country. I have been Russia's worst nightmare. If Hillary got in I think Putin's probably going "Man, I wish Hillary won" because you see what I do. BUT, with that being said; Russia should be in this meeting. Why are we having a meeting without Russia being in the meeting? And I would recommend - and it's up to them - but Russia should be in the meeting, it should be a part of it. Yaknow, whether you like it or not - and it may not be "Politically Correct", but we have a world to run. And in the G7 - which used to be the G8 - they threw Russia out. They should let Russia come back in, because we should have Russia at the negotiating table.

Edit:

BONUS: Trump saying he'll probably pull the USA out of NAFTA, which I transcribed below as well:

Trump: We're going to deal with the unfair trade practices. If you look at what Canada, Mexico, the European Union, all of them have been doing to us for many, many decades - we have to change it, and they understand it's going to happen.

Reporter: What are you going to do if they form an agreement without you?

Trump: We are going to do very well. Now, if we're unable to make a deal we'll terminate NAFTA, we'll have a better deal. If we're unable to make a deal we'll be better off. Right now we are not going to live with the deals the way they are. European Union treats us very unfairly, Canada - very unfairly, Mexico - very unfairly. With that being said, I think we'll very probably - very easily - make a deal.

Gonna post this in a couple spots so that people see it. Sorry for the repost if you've already seen it; I just wanted to make sure other people do.

voting age population in the US is 235,000,000 more or less. Trump got just shy of 63,000,000 votes (3,000,000 less than Clinton), which is under 27% of potential voters.

Thing is, he's signing whatever bills they can get through, and letting his handlers give him the names of young, incredibly conservative, judicial candidates to put forth.

The Congressional Republicans are getting pretty much everything they want. Further, since Trump is so immune to shame, he's going even further than they ever dreamed in a lot of ways. The Republicans have hated the EPA ever since Nixon was forced to create it, but Trump went vastly further than even Junior did in destroying it from within. And his current administrator for the Consumer Financial Protection Board is a former Congressman most well known for trying several times to abolish the board who literally asked for a budget of zero dollars.

The Republicans might be a bit embarrassed by his antics, but he's doing what they want him to do.

Also, I suspect that most of the Republicans, both elected and otherwise, have a firm belief that America really can go it alone and that the current world order is inevitable and rock solid rather than being a ramshackle affair that can fall apart at the slightest nudge.

Basically they seek kicking at the foundations of the economy and world situation as being a totally fine price to pay for the wrecking ball that Trump is bringing to the American government. Those foundations are totally fine. World War III will never happen....

I'm not an American either. First I felt sadness for a wonderful country to make a mistake (all countries do at some point). Then I felt embarrassment on behalf of the population as the continual headlines devalued their international standing. And now, when it seems that nothing is being done to stop this administration (I am sure that Mueller will end it eventually), I am starting to sorrow as this could be the start of America's decline to see China rise up as the new world leader.

Sad times. America, please act.

It鈥檇 bring so many seemingly random throwaway incidents together.

  • why he got weird that time about Putin being a killer, and claimed there are lots of killers, and we鈥檝e got a lot of them

  • why they invented Pizzagate, specifically

  • why the bots started pushing 鈥渄eep fakes鈥

  • why they invented the bizarre story of Hillary and Huma torturing a little girl on video

  • and of course his known sexual overtures to and harassment of girls as young as ten years old, caught on actual video

Murdered child prostitutes.

But here鈥檚 the thing: the price of entry into the Republican Party these days is that you鈥檙e already compromised or incredibly easy to compromise. I believe a major reason they try to get rid of women is simply because women just aren鈥檛 as susceptible to committing sex crimes, and they prefer puppets who are sex criminals. And the most blackmail-worthy sex crime is molesting kids, having child porn, etc.

Women can be blackmailed by their sons鈥 sex crimes, of course. That鈥檚 not as clean for the blackmailer as the politician himself being guilty.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy literally said he thought Trump was on the Russian payroll. Paul Ryan agreed, laughed about it, and then swore the other top Republicans at the meeting to secrecy.

I'm a republican in Kevin McCarthy's district and I'm voting democrat purely because of Trump's narcissism, lies, and behavior unfitting of the office. I'm also voting against Kevin because he is one of Trump's biggest sycophants. So yes people do recognize it. But, not enough, in my opinion.

My favorite question is why don't they care. Money, power, kompromat?

The media likes to forget, but the RNC was hacked too. I can only imagine what was in their emails.

level 4
California
28 points3 months ago

I鈥檓 so happy to read your comment, I thought I was going crazy because no one seems to remember / care that the Russians hacked both DNC and RNC.

The masters of Kompromat looked at their treasure trove of data and said, release the DNC and keep the RNC. Go back and read through the DNC email dumps, they can be mean or nasty to each other, and it looks like there was s legitimate effort to screw over Sanders in favor of Clinton, but beyond that it鈥檚 just s political party going about its business. I can only imagine what the republicans say to each other when they think no one is going to read it. How many subject lines have the racial slurs / talk about bribes / abortions for mistresses.

trump is a disaster, but not in isolation. The republicans in Congress have enabled him, rolled all the way over, probably because they are compromised by Russia too, all the top officials retiring starts to make sense too if they are trying to get out from under the thumb of kompromat, they can go make their lobbyist dollars and Putin will leave them alone.

Traitors each and every one of them.

At what point does the GOP just admit he's working for Russia?

Yeah sure they will justify it and claim that's smart or strong or whatever.

But seriously you can't deny he's 100% compromised at this point.

Putin has to be scratching his head, baffled we haven't figured this out yet.

It's like dramatically revealing that you poisoned the meal your enemy just ate and he just stares at you blankly and keeps eating declaring "nu uh. Fake news, I like poison anyway."

Odd because Russia itself has said many times it would not rejoin in the G7 even if it were invited to do so. It was Russia's own choice to permanently walk away. Why does Trump think that even if the other 6 countries agreed with him that Russia would come back? Does he know something about Putin's aims the rest of the world doesn't?

Extra extra weird because the entire focus of this years' summit was supposed to be stopping foreign meddling because of Russia's attack on our election in 2016. So for the president of the US to say, "it's the perfect time to invite Russia back into our friends group!" is just straight up surreal.

level 2
Foreign
181 points3 months ago

The answer is Russia told him to.

The reason for demanding this is not to get Russian back in the G7. Russia doesn't give a shit about that. It is to push the narrative of Russian inclusion so hard that it alienates the US from all of its allies and turns the US into the enemy: which is exactly what Trump is doing, and it is working.

This. Although I believe it's not only debt, but the whole money laundering. Imagine the amount of money leaking out of Russia when the Soviet Union collapsed and it was free-for-all. And it's still happening.

I believe Trump laundered billions of dollars and a lot of that was caught up in the Magnitsky act. The Russians are pissed.

And then there's China which the Steele dossier alleges has even deeper "business" ties with Trump.
