[Fresh] Radiohead made my heart jump for a second. Thought it might have been a totally new track.
Well, it's a whole song at least! There were only like 55 known seconds of it before this was released.
It basically is a totally new track!
right!? it sounds amazing!
Got and interesting stereo WICHIWICHIWICHIWICHI
I remember hearing this in the background as it was being sound checked. We thought it was "Burn the Witch", because it was one of the few songs we knew about (for the upcoming album at the time which would later become In Rainbows) but haven't heard yet.
Had no idea atease was gone. I used to be all over that board, though I hadn’t visited in quite some time. F.
Also, fuck hoserama now and forever.
This is why atease going is a shame.
I remember that arsehat Hoserama, a taper, hoarding this for years and people would either suck up or diss him and he’d say he didn’t do it for the ego yet... as soon as the forum died and no one cared, here we go.
Can’t wait to listen.
Hey, at least we got this out of the death of AtEase.
Why the sudden change of heart?
Horserama, the dude that recorded this soundcheck explained that back when he posted about it in the AtEase message board (Radiohead fan message board) they initially thought he was a bullshitter until he posted some excerpts of this song. And then they went full retard, insulting him for not posting the whole thing. Fast forward 12 years, the AtEase forum is long dead, so he released the soundcheck as a fuck you to those guys. It's also the 12th anniversary of the show. Here's what he wrote in the release:
Bonus notes: Included is the complete soundcheck from 6/24/2006 Berkeley. Fun soundcheck from another great Radiohead show at the Greek Theater. This soundcheck is notable as the band plays the never released demo "Come to Your Senses". Thom talks about having just written the lyrics for it, and the do a bit of work on it. In general, Radiohead soundchecks tend to be a lot of fun. Thom is always joking around, and his clowning about chewing gum on stage at the beginning is a laugh.
This recording has a bit of infamy online. Initially I posted the the transcribed lyrics on the now-deceased Atease Radiohead message board. When I was laughed at and called a hoax (among other names), I tossed up a short clip to provide proof. When I didn't immediately provide a full recording, out came every mean insult in the book. I typically hold some recordings back as trade bait, but this was beyond many of the Atease fans. If I had taken a shot for everytime somebody on the board called me a douche, I could have drank an entire distillery.
With the demise of Atease, let's all lift a glass and take a drink in the memory of the snarky insulting Radiohead fans. You finally get the recording (for free!). It might have taken 12 years, but the recording is is being set free.
Radiohead has always been a big gum band
again, this prick makes it all about him. Narcissist.
I was never a part of AtEase. I don't care about horserama (except if he releases Wake Me (Before They Come) too). There's a new Radiohead demo and I think that's great.
I WAS a part of atease, and fuck Horserama.
Considering he was some kind of strange trickster god trapped in the Internet, probably.
Who was the guy who methodically listened to records by decade? All I can remember is that he was incredibly mechanical in the way he consumes music but had the deepest knowledge base of anyone. He had a Mother 3 avatar I think—like the SNES RPG.
Mortigi Tempo boardie here, gotta be thinking of the same guy. He went by Hector Gilbert on our site. I think I stumbled upon his RYM awhile back. Dude was seriously dedicated to the consumption of music
Yup, that’s the one. Everyone always gave him shit for being a robot, but tbh I really respected his dedication and the love he clearly had for the art.
That dude was batshit in the most artful way.
Ash will never die.
Not at all surprised by this. He’s always been this way.
He’s a total pain in the ass. Basically this ‘taper community’ is very small and anything of value he could have gotten, so he held it over fans for some sort of respect. Once that he v them went so too did the point of keeping this to himself.
Sort of funny this song went unnoticed for a few days.
I'm a huge Royal Trux fan and collector of live recordings and I run into this all the time. It's just a fact of tapers and traders. They're used to other people holding important content from mass consumption so they do it too in order to get trading leverage for something they want.
Btw if there's any Trux fans looking for live recordings and videos...
It's almost like withholding recordings as 'trade bait' actually does make you douche and you deserve to have mean things said about you.
yeah.... i can't imagine not sharing whatever i've got. hoarding incredibly rare recordings out of some sense of superiority is just... gross.
Gotta love how people that don't tape, don't contribute, don't spend all the money on gear, don't go through metal detectors, don't understand how long it takes to mix stuff like this, say "I would share everything I get". (And Hoserama shares an incredible amount of all kinds of recordings)
-Comments from a taper and someone that does to all of the above.
Where did he release it?
Some invite-only torrent site, I don't remember the name right now. Someone on r/Radiohead said they got a copy and that they would work on distributing it, cuz after all it's a free release.
I found it.
This'll be on LP10.
A man can hope.
What happened to AtEase?
the guy who owns it didn't renew the payment for the server costs, it just died. For some reason he keeps ignoring enquiries about it, some of us would be willing to pay for the costs to keep it open.
Why? The place is a toilet. The main page was basically hacked, it was full of spam. None of the content was up to date. And the comments on the main page were weird, either being flat out bots, or two or three jerks having a flame war about Thom cheating on Rachel while she had cancer.
Coupled with the forum with closed registration, with all the hallmarks that brings - arrogance, isolated posters, cliques - the place is better off dead.
I can only assume you have some friends on there. Well, why not bring them to Reddit? It's about 1000x more friendly and visible, and most importantly, not overrun with bots.
I'm not talking about the useless main page, just the forum.
Its non-radiohead music section was amazing, as good as r/indieheads really. The whole board in general was fun for sure.
Reddit's layout is different from a messageboard as you can imagine, the board felt more like a place to go to to talk with the usual people, Reddit is not really made for that. Oh and the Radiohead discussion on here is incredibly boring and stagnant. This sub is only good for quick news and live updates maybe
Also curious, I used to go on there all the time
I didn't use it, but some other users in r/Radiohead said that it started when the board changed admins, things got slower and slower when you tried to create an account, to the point you had to wait months to get a confirmation email from them. And then this year it finally went down and the owner of the website said he wouldn't bring it back. Sad story, really.Paging u/jamnesiac.
Thanks a lot for filling me in. That’s too bad, have people migrated to another forum at all?
The r/radiohead sub isn't bad when it's not an endless flood of memes (but hey, that's the internet)....Typically when the album hype ramps up, it's a fun community to engage in.
The Radiohead boards were never really the appeal of the site, though—did the Music board live on in any form?
By the time At Ease died, the music board was a ghost town. I used to go there for all my leaks, but people stopped frequenting it awhile ago.
Oh yeah I’m on there, way more when it’s album/tour time though. Still, feels different. Doesn’t have the same hyper obsessive bordering on creepy fanaticism that At Ease did
"Oh my God" indeed.
looks like he uploaded the full soundcheck too, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1bvlHC1RHs
Love this sort of countryfunk swampblues style for them. This could easily be on a soundtrack of some deep south soundtrack like True Blood or True Detective.
YES! Exactly what I thought!
Wtf. Is this a soundboard rip or what?
Is the entire show out there?
ty ty ty
Both Berkeley shows have been out there for 12 years, but they're not soundboard.
Is there a set list of the full sound check? I’d kill to hear the full version of Wake Me Before They Come. (If that was even sound checked here)
Unfortunately Wake Me Before They Come was soundchecked in 2008, and that souncheck hasn't been released by hoserama yet, so no luck. Also, here's the whole 2006 soundcheck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1bvlHC1RHs
I think Thom has said Neil Young is one of his favorite artists, and Radiohead has covered After the Goldrush and other songs by him too.
The cover of Tell Me Why is incredible.
you are the best, thank you! :)
its. Radiohead. Thats for sure!
After a few listens, I get why this song never left the soundcheck stage.
The songwriting is not great IMO. Pretty boring, uninspiring melody and changes.
TBH it's very underwhelming. This was one of the last "unreleased gems".
I liked it, but also agree with what you say. Speaking of unreleased gems, Cut a Hole deserved to be on AMSP.Edit: Skirting on the Surface as well. Also, happy cake day!
