What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

This is kinda horrifying

Original Poster75 points · 6 months ago

I dig it.

What about the cover/parody by ghoul?

"I see towers of flame, and corpses too I see the doom, of me and you And I think to myself... what a wonderful world."

Seems like it has a more obvious sadistic tone, but the original would be creepier because it's implied.

I sorta did that when I watched Good Morning Vietnam.

Ah the beauty of destruction.

I see trees of green

Red roses too

Monty Python: Always look on the bright side of life.

Brightly burning.

Ryan started the fire

Joe McCarthy, Richard Nixon, Studebaker, television, North Korea, South Korea, Marilyn Monroe. Ryan started the fire

I was about to comment “We Didn’t Start the Fire” while singing The Office version in my head. See you beat me to the punch. 😂

I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire - The Ink Spots

Zooms out to see a destroyed Washington D.C. ”War, War Never Changes”

This was my one as well. Something about the irony in the song makes me realise the cruel hard truth of it all

Eye of a hurricane

Listen to your self churn

World serves it's own needs

REM man... REM.

"The song was played repeatedly for a 24-hour period (with brief promos interspersed) to introduce the new format for WENZ 107.9 FM "The End", a radio station in Cleveland, Ohio in 1992. When the station underwent a new format change in 1996, they again played the song in 24-hour loop"

And there's some more data on the Wiki page that shows sales increasing by 600% the week of the Mayan apocalypse.

Pretty sure Fight Club got it right with “Where is My Mind”.

It’s by the pixies btw

Nada Surf does a REALLY great cover. I didn't think that was possible with Pixies songs... but here it is. Nada Surf Cover

Maxence Cyrin also does a good piano cover, if that's your kind of thing. They used it in the end of a season in Mr. Robot, and damn, it was perfect.

Interesting. I like the original better tbh. This one seems like a little too much is going on

Also placebo did a fantastic cover as well!

The End by The Doors

This is the end, my only friend, the end

Came here for this or waiting for the sun would be good too

Great for watching people run in circles

While they burn to death.

Led Zepplin, The Immigrant Song.

Stairway to Heaven would be great for this, especially if you timed it so that the world ended as the final notes played.

Haha, add a homicidal Norse deity into the mix and you've got your own personal viewing of Thor Ragnarok.

Whiter shade of Pale by Procal Harem. Not sure why, I've just always thought it would go well with slow motion destruction.

As the room was humming harder, and the ceiling blew away...

The movie Pirate Radio thought so as well.

I never saw it, but that must be where I got the idea. Maybe that scene was used in a promo or trailer.

Hurt, NIN

Nice pick! Have you heard the Johnny Cash cover?

I'm probably the only person on Earth, but I've never liked that cover. It's always sounded too much like the original, but with the dynamics flattened way the hell out. It doesn't hold my interest.

For Whom The Bell Tolls - Metallica or Hell Awaits - Slayer

Peace sells, but who's buying? - Megadeth

"Rioseco" by Caspian.

I actually had a vivid end-of-the-world dream where I was standing on the hill nearby me in my home town. The sky was covered in grey clouds with deep black rifts and tornadoes were tearing up the valley, but everything was silent and I all I could hear this song playing in the dream whilst debris was whirling round my head.

"Your Hand in Mine" by Explosions in the Sky is another one of my end of the world songs. The title makes me think of sitting with someone and watching the end together.
