It’s a torta with breaded flattened chicken called Milanesa the cheese looks like Oaxocan cheese (I’m probably wrong) cause of the stringyness and pull of it. And veggies. The sauce is definitely not mustard.

[–]CraigsMomsBush718 157 points158 points  (13 children)

It has to be Oaxaca

[–]Porfinlohice 72 points73 points  (12 children)

Actually Cemitas are made in Puebla :)

[–]cap10wow 79 points80 points  (11 children)

Yeah but I’m 99% sure this is in Oaxaca. I saw the video this is from. Edit: see below. The cheese is Oaxaca, the sandwich shop is in Puebla. Oof.

[–]Gato1980 64 points65 points  (8 children)

They're not talking about where it's made, they're talking about Oaxaca, the type of cheese.

Just letting you know, this sandwich was made in Puebla along with the video. Having been there and eaten there myself. 4 Poniente 1109 col centro, Centro, 72000 Puebla, Pue., Mexico

    [–]cap10wow 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Well I can’t argue with that, having only seen the video once a month ago. Cheers.

    [–]IngsocDoublethink 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Here's the video, in case you want to refresh your memory.

    [–]cap10wow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh, i have no way to eat the sandwich, I’m too hungry to watch the sandwich

    [–]mcgarrykyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got back from a vacation in Puebla, can confirm this is the location.

    [–]Matingas 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's Oaxacan cheese, but for cemitas they usually just call it "quesillo."

    Cemitas are traditionally from Puebla.

    [–]TiKels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People from oaxaca call oaxacan cheese "quesillo" ... I've heard in oaxaca "queso oaxaca" is something else

    [–]rizaroni 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Fuck. Me. Up. I want one NOW.

    [–]thisiskrazyj 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Yes, almost looks like mozzarella w the strings! I love chicken Milanese

    [–]ChilesandCigars 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It's like mozzarella but a little dryer and slightly saltier.

    [–]originalityescapesme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    That sounds amazing.

    [–]Gato1980 34 points35 points  (1 child)

Oaxaca cheese, (queso Oaxaca or quesillo) is a white, semi-hard cheese from Mexico, similar to unaged Monterey Jack, but with a mozzarella-like string cheese texture.

The sauce is almost certainly a chili sauce.

    [–]Porfinlohice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it might be a vinaigrette. Spicy sauce is never that watery, it might be squeezed lemon juice as well

    [–]nyalriv580 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is Oaxocan cheese. Had a Cemita for the 1st time the other day and oaxocan was the listed cheese

    [–]Infin1ty 3 points4 points  (1 child)

What really drives me crazy is how hard it is to get good Mexican cheese in stores in my area. They carry queso fresco and queso "Blanco", which are amazing, but if I want to get good Mexican cheese I have to go to tiny Mexican markets that are completely out of the way of where I live.

We have a giant Mexican and Cental American population in my area but they won't stock good products from those areas.

    [–]flexmuzik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess it really cheeses you

    [–]jalapeno_jalopy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also looks like it has onions, avocado, and cilantro. What's the sauce, though??

    [–]Dr_Frasier_Bane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ain't nothin in this world that compares to a milanesa pollo torta on a fresh telera roll.

    [–]Anonbot85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i am italian and this is what we call "cotoletta" that is made out of chicken. the original "cotoletta alla milanese" is made out of fried calf flattened steak with bone

    [–]chanbaekat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    The yellow container contained oil

    [–]TWOpies 764 points765 points  (15 children)

I found the hand shot where he tries to disconnect the halves disturbing.

    [–]AcrylicPaintSet 188 points189 points  (0 children)

After the fast finesse displayed beforehand.. It was like a joke ending.

    [–]just_some_guy1976 79 points80 points  (1 child)

    Awkward, for sure

    [–]i1ostthegame -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

    But a welcome one.

    [–]eventualist 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Alex for $200, what is a knife used for?

    [–]Willie_Main 34 points35 points  (4 children)

Someone mentioned above that this was a clip from the Food Ranger, a foodie vlogger. Perhaps he was holding the camera with one hand and attempting to eat the sandwich with the other? Either way, you're right. Although, I found it more annoying than disturbing. Fucking rip it apart already! I can't stand the guy. He's every cringy foreigner I met while living in South Korea and traveling through Asia. And now, because he's so popular, every other food vlogger as taken cues from him and become a clone of his channel.

    [–]ADGjr86 31 points32 points  (2 children)

His show is awesome. His wife does the camera work for him. But here you might be right. His show always makes me hungry especially his Mexico trip. but it’s funny hearing him speak Chinese and surprising people. I know what you mean though, when I first started watching he was annoying but he’s grown on me. He’s just a wholesome dude who is overly nice.

    [–]Willie_Main 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I think I'm particularly salty in regard to this subject since I taught EFL in South Korea for a number of years and there are so many stereotypes that are hard to avoid and this guy just ticks all the boxes for things to avoid.

    [–]Johnnn05 37 points38 points  (0 children)

    Such as? Just curious

    [–]Rock-Harders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brother you clearly see two hands in that shot.

    [–]Shuckin_n_Jivin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the cheese stretching as the halves get pulled apart has to be the Money Shot, right? How do you not get the Money Shot?!?!

    [–]brownishgirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But it also triggered me that he was about to eat it right next to the food prep bins. If not almost on top of the prep bins!

    [–]Hawvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    “Okay, let’s do another take!”

    [–]marc962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruined the video. Nothing drives me, a chef, more insane then when someone can’t pick up a sandwich. C’mon, show that fucker who’s boss.

    [–]captainsciencepants 86 points87 points  (9 children)

    Food ranger.

Video that this footage is from:

    [–]cflatjazz 15 points16 points  (1 child)

    WTF is that accent?!

    [–]Gato1980 49 points50 points  (6 children)

Thank you, but ugh that guy's voice was annoying as fuck. We get it... they're putting on a lot of cheese and avocado.

    [–]anotherdroid 21 points22 points  (0 children)

    oooh, just loading that cheeeese

    [–]GeneralRectum 34 points35 points  (4 children)

It's like he has little actual commentary so he just says "Oh yeah" and then repeats the same thing 6 times until the lady starts putting different ingredients on the sandwich.

    [–]kyeelee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The hilarious thing is that when he speaks chinese, he literally says that too. "Oh yeahhh, very good". Tai hao laaaa.

    [–]31sualkatnas 32 points33 points  (2 children)

Hmm, don't want to sound like a fanboy or anything but I think this guys videos are great. The same MMM OH YEAH reaction does get a bit tiresome after a while but you can really tell he loves food and what he does. Most of the videos on his channel are in China (as he lived there for a time and learned Chinese for 7 years in Canada), but his India videos are great too. Don't hate his reactions too much, him and his wife seem like pretty nice people.

    [–]bornagaindeathstar 20 points21 points  (1 child)

I quite enjoy his video as well. My favorite is chu chu... the sidekick he had in on of the videos.

    [–]b0btehninja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chu chu the cute one. But the shit she says are even more dumb

    [–]new_AngusYoung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why isn’t godlevelstreetfood a subreddit, sounds amazing.

    [–]Beaneroo -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

Can't watch it... hate that guy. He makes Guy Fieri seem like someone I would have over for dinner

    [–]tman916x 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Tbh, I wouldn't mind someone taking a bite into my food exclaiming, "Whoa I just took a one way ticket to flavor town!!!" Flattering me the rest of the night. He's probably got some cool stories too.

    [–]kittenpantzen 8 points9 points  (1 child)

From all accounts I've heard, Fieri is actually a really nice dude, also. I'd totally have him over for dinner and feedback.

    [–]invitrobrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. He annoys me, but I've heard he's a nice guy and does a lot for his hometown (like he cooked for all the first responders for the CA wildfires last year).

    [–]newtothelyte 41 points42 points  (1 child)

Can I just have a container of flattened fried chicken

    [–]Pelusteriano 8 points9 points  (0 children)

    Flattened breaded fried chicken

    [–]lars1982 23 points24 points  (27 children)

    Where do you get it?

    [–]cyan1618[S] 38 points39 points  (8 children)

So how safe is it in Puebla?

    [–]caliform 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Puebla. Puebla is a center of incredible food.

    [–]Pelusteriano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    All over Puebla

    [–]sminkdrink 8 points9 points  (16 children)

Lots of Mexican places in the US have similar sandwiches, they’re called tortas!

    [–]Tacos_and_Earl_Grey 8 points9 points  (10 children)

Most tortas I've seen don't have cheese, let alone that much of it. I think that the cheese is half of what makes this unique and interesting.

    [–]sminkdrink 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I’ve never seen it with cheese like this either, but otherwise it looks pretty standard. I would love to try one like in this gif, but tortas are delicious regardless.

    [–]Tacos_and_Earl_Grey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks similar as in it's a Mexican sandwich but the bun flavor and the sauces are also different. I've never had a cemita but damn it if I'm not craving a torta now! Perfectly toasted with just the right amount of beans... I don't think I should be visiting foo subs right now.

    [–]RGSagahstoomeh 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I can't remember the last time I had a torta without cheese on it.

    [–]Tacos_and_Earl_Grey 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Which type has cheese? I can't think of a torta that would have cheese other than maybe a little cotija or something. I suppose a torta de jamon would. I'd imagine it's also a regional thing.

    [–]RGSagahstoomeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever I order always seems to have some queso fresco on it. I live in the Bay Area.

    [–]Pelusteriano 0 points1 point  (4 children)

From where are you getting your tortas that they aren't as dope as these ones?

    [–]Tacos_and_Earl_Grey 3 points4 points  (3 children)

These aren't tortas so I'm not sure what you mean? They're each their own thing but I'm sure cemitas are just as delicious as tortas.

    [–]_BigJoePortagee_ 0 points1 point  (2 children)

yep Torta's are different. how about a sopa (sopas?) I havent been able to find a restaurant that makes them. That corn bread bed topped with delicious ingredients.

    [–]Tacos_and_Earl_Grey 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sopes? They're a thick masa base with toppings (usually beans, meat, lettuce, etc...) Where I live most authentic places have them. I live in Mexican food mecca for America though. You have to go to hole in the wall places to find a good sope.

    [–]_BigJoePortagee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, i'm still on the hunt. Where I went today they weren't offering sopes, but the tortas and tamales were off the chart. The bread was so fresh it was like they just baked it, and the corn on the outside of the tamale was delicious, I wish you could have had a bite so you don't just have to take my word for it!

    [–]nochilinopity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tortas are a lot smaller than cemitas tho. Both great

    [–]guinessandnachos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a cemita just the other night in Brooklyn. Was delicious.

    [–]lolzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tortas are not Cemitas. Tortas are more.common, but you can definitely get Cemitas.

    [–]caliform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar, but it just ain't the real thing. It sucks, even in SF, in the Mission, with tons of Mexican places, you can't get a cemita. They're a very particular Pueblan sandwich.

    [–]nyalriv580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    https://www.cemitaseltigre.com/

Just discovered this place the other day if you happen to be in the Queens, NYC area.

    [–]tacodoggins 19 points20 points  (5 children)

I’ve always wanted one of these. Apparently there is a really good place in Chicago I believe where they went on diners drive ins and dives once that serves cemitas

    [–]xwint3rxmut3x 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Is it Cemitas Puebla maybe? I'm going into Chicago today and this looks amazing. I'm going to try and convince my gf this is where we are going for lunch

    [–]craigford 7 points8 points  (3 children)

There is. Cemitas Puebla in the west loop!

    [–]bisconaut 2 points3 points  (2 children)

go while you can... all their locations seem to be collapsing in on themselves

    [–]Beaneroo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yup.. they spread themselves thin, should of just shuck with the old place on the west side.. it had some character

    [–]joepods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The owner of the building upped their rent way too high, even after they really did a nice job redoing the interior. The relocation in Logan Square was always temporary, and in Hyde Park there was some issue with the alcohol.

    [–]Snakeoilsage 15 points16 points  (17 children)

I don't know if she's putting on a demonstration or just doing her day job exactly how she always does it, but she deserves some major props for it. I can't imagine how tired she must feel at the end of the day.

    [–]Pelusteriano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen them in a normal day and it's always like this, they're quite good at it.

    [–]baked_brotato 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Good lord! I wish I could pare an avocado at even 20% her speed!

    [–]mezcaluz 10 points11 points  (2 children)

    [–]mezcaluz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, lo siento. Estoy en Puebla, México.

    [–]Sh0rtR0und 7 points8 points  (1 child)

All for 70 pesos. Man I love Mexico.

    [–]Pelusteriano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, cemitas are way cheaper they're like MXN$30-45, which is like US$2.

    [–]wabbajackov 214 points215 points  (14 children)

what the fuck. that shit looks more dry than Antarctica

    [–]edgar_alan_bro 32 points33 points  (0 children)

What they didnt show was the salsas that they have on the side usually, and the pickled jalapenos/onions/carrots. Those help out a lot, but yeah the sandwich itself is a dry sandwich.

    [–]pmMeYourBoxOfCables 74 points75 points  (9 children)

Even with all that avacado and the sauce?

    [–]wabbajackov 46 points47 points  (7 children)

avocado isnt that juicy and there wasnt much sauce put on it

    [–]Mojimi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

    Avocado is just nature's mayo

    [–]oligobop 4 points5 points  (5 children)

100g of avocado is about 70% water. An apple for comparison is about 85%.

    [–]negedgeClk 22 points23 points  (2 children)

Are you implying that the water makeup of avocado is based on the serving size?

    [–]GlitchyVI 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, 200g of avocado is 140% water. Come on!

    [–]oligobop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha. That's a good point. I meant to write 70g, and that makes up 70% which is redundant. Either way avocados are pretty water dense as far as fruit go and in my experience are on par to many spreads we use for samiches anyway.

    [–]wabbajackov 0 points1 point  (1 child)

avocado is mush though and not really damp

    [–]oligobop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is just about any sauce?

Take an avocado, and place it on a paper towel. The paper towel will get wet.

    [–]nyalriv580 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got one in NYC and they included a spicy chipotle type sauce and pickled onions. Also, the avocado gives it way more change in texture than expected, if that makes sense.

    [–]Quasar_Cross 5 points6 points  (3 children)

    What's the white stringy stuff?

    [–]schortfilms 15 points16 points  (0 children)

    Oaxacan style cheese I believe

    [–]Hexbrother 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I need that in my life right now..

    [–]PorcupineTree93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    This lady sandwiches

I just ate breakfast, but I can definitely eat one of these right now! Eating food in Mexico is the best!!

    [–]jimmyn0thumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that all anyone really wants in this life is to sit in peace and eat a sandwich.

    [–]_BigJoePortagee_ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yummy! I did a search and found a restaurant near me that makes em, and good reviews. I know what i'm having for lunch!!

    [–]kindcannabal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, it me ur brother, can I have your cemita?

    [–]ReFreshing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would put me to sleep immediately.

    [–]bbqmeh 1 point2 points  (1 child)

where can i get this in canadia?

    [–]Maiq_is_tired_now 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Food Ranger i believe

    [–]chanderjeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    From food ranger’s YouTube channel

    [–]savage8008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to feel good about my avocado cutting abilities

    [–]legendofj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    No gloves, no hair net.

    [–]manfly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it's tasty but not really a good Foodporn submission.

    [–]elpresidente-4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Looks delicious

    [–]OrangeFreeman 3 points4 points  (5 children)

It bothers me that she's doing it without gloves.

    [–]dorekk 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Do you think they wear gloves in restaurant kitchens?

    You've heard of soap, right?

    [–]sxit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only if the food is ready to eat. If you are going to cook it you don't need gloves.

    [–]Pumba16b -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea, it's basic servesafe/food sanitation to wear gloves when handling ready to eat food.

    [–]getontheground 4 points5 points  (12 children)

What went into it? I don't recognize any of the ingredients except the buns

    [–]howmanydads 31 points32 points  (3 children)

    • Avocado
    • "Milanesa de Pollo" – flattened, breaded, and fried chicken (or sometimes 'milanesa de res' – beef – instead) *Edited, I mistakenly called it beef at first.
    • Queso Oaxaca – stringy, mozzarella-like cheese that gets hand-pulled
    • More avocado
    • Cilantro or papalo leaves
    • Onion
    • Chipotle sauce – literally chipotles in adobo pureed to a thick sauce
    • And of course, the 'cemita' – sesame seed roll

    [–]doubleblax 2 points3 points  (1 child)

    It was definitely chicken.

    [–]howmanydads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good call. I rewatched, and it's clear when they slice into it at the end that it's chicken not beef. Thanks, edited.

    [–]TheLadyEve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, milanesa de res is my preference. So, so good.

    [–]maxwellsearcy 42 points43 points  (4 children)

    You’ve never seen an avocado?

    [–]Prologue11126 2 points3 points  (2 children)

the stringy thing looks good, what is it?

    [–]IAmTheNewGuy 5 points6 points  (1 child)

It's Oaxaca cheese, very stringy and delicious

    [–]Prologue11126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Oaxaca cheese

thank you! need to find it!

    [–]slashcleverusername 6 points7 points  (1 child)

This post didn’t require downvotes. It’s a really big world of food out there and the internet connects us all together with things we aren’t familiar with. I had no idea what most of that was either because probably nobody within a thousand kilometres of here makes that stuff. I couldn’t have even guessed if it was characteristic of a certain region.

    [–]dorekk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had no idea what most of that was either because probably nobody within a thousand kilometres of here makes that stuff.

I really don't understand how you could not recognize:

    • avocado
    • string cheese
    • fried chicken
    • onions
    • bread

Maybe if it was your first week on Earth...

    [–]dorekk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've literally never seen an avocado in your life?

    [–]MakyMcFart 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Looks more like a torta to me

    [–]howmanydads 66 points67 points  (1 child)

It's not dissimilar to a torta de milanesa, but a few key differences make it a cemita:

    • The 'cemita', the slightly sweet sesame seed roll.
    • The pulled oaxaca cheese
    • The chipotles in adobo sauce
    • Lack of mayo or mayo-based sauce

It's sort of like a foreigner calling a 'cheesesteak' a 'cheeseburger'. On the face they're both beef and american cheese sandwiches, but try telling that to a Philadelphian.

    [–]lrfiv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've also never seen a torta with papalo, which is (I believe) usual for a cemita. It's like a super cilantro, really fresh tasting, and super easy to grow.

Edit: and of course someone else already mentioned it in a comment. My fingers are so damned slow!

A cemita is kind of like a torta in that it's Mexican and it's a sandwich. The ingredients can be similar but the bread is different. It's the local sandwich of Puebla.

This is the lowest quality gif I have ever seen.
