Bill and Sam are at Neal's house (I think it's the episode when they find out Neal's dad is cheating but I'm not 100% sure) Bill asks why the shows they watch are on so late. Neal replies with something along the lines of; because at 6pm you can't say "Jane you ignorant slut." Is this a reference to an actual show or is Neal just saying this off the top of his head?
I could only find one post on the topic and it didn't get allot of attention. I would like to hear opinion on the matter. The subject was definitely ahead of its time even in 99-00. Today i don't think it is that big a deal and imho it shouldn't have been then either. That being said as i am mid 30's i wouldn't know the answer of the question in hand. How much acceptance could this have actually had in a town like their's in 80-81 high school? All just opinion so I'm open to positive and negative remarks.
I generally like Rashida Jones as an actress, especially in Parks and Rec and The Office. But I can't help but cringe when she's on this show.
She plays Karen, by the way. Her first appearance is episode four when she bullies Sam.
Freaks and Geeks was a television show created by Paul Feig and produced by Judd Apatow which ran on NBC in 1999-2000. The show was canceled after only one season, but it has gone on to develop a large cult following while also launching most of the casts members careers.
