SS on cobblestone in 2018 at LAN's against former or current top 30 teams:
16-11 AGO
11-16 Sprout
16-13 Cloud9
16-8 BIG
10-16 AGO
12-16 fnatic
Overall 3-3. This is definitely bad for them but they might be fine if someone lets Cache through against them

[–]synthestar 2 points3 points  (17 children)

You say that, but there's not much between top level CS players in terms of aim. Like really, it's not going to give him much more of an advantage than good aim already does in other maps. CS is still a team game, and no amount of aim is going to pull a good trade into your favour.

Edit: all the fanboys downvoting me can read the stats https://www.hltv.org/stats/players/matches/7998/s1mple?maps=de_dust2 1.11 rating https://www.hltv.org/stats/players/matches/7998/s1mple 1.21 rating

Going by his past performances, he's statistically worse on Dust 2 vs his average across all other maps.

So create discussion instead of downvoting.

Mate, Simple is a much better player right now than he was in early 2017 and 2016. Stats from that time mean practically nothing.

He's shitting on everyone on every map right now, even those that aren't considered great for individual plays. Dust 2 is. Chances are, he'll shit on everyone on Dust 2, even moreso than on other maps.

If he keeps this form, that is.

[–]ShizrahAstralis Fan 55 points56 points  (14 children)

If I'm understanding JW's tweet correctly, it was put to a vote among the 16 teams, and somehow a majority believed playing Dust 2 was the better solution? Weird.

[–]Crosea400k Hype 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if teams voted with their veto-system in mind. Can't say I blame them. I guess in the end we wouldn't be watching either map anyway.

[–]CorneliusFudgePackerCloud9 Fan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah keep in mind that some teams like Astralis will be happy to see their permaban leave the pool...guessing some people voted purely off that.

[–]anonballsCloud9 Fan 22 points23 points  (7 children)

[–]marrtiiin 24 points25 points  (5 children)

[–]zh1K476tt9pq 11 points12 points  (0 children)

E: https://twitter.com/jwCSGO/status/988459299625160705 Case in point.

The more tweets I read from pros the more I think they aren't the smartest people probably shouldn't be tweeting. So just because he doesn't like the outcome he is now claiming that other teams don't take the game seriously? Really? Isn't it more like they considered what's best for them given that they have a veto and whether or not they liked cobble?

[–]raff97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does playing dust2 mean you dont care about the tournament? Yes, your team isnt that well practiced on it, but neither is your opponent. If you think your team is less bad than your opponent then its the correct strategy to play it.

I can also see aim heavy teams like SS playing it. Also underdog teams can use it to throw a spanner in the works against a superior opponent

[–]MJuniorDC9Death Sentence 300 points301 points  (29 children)

Good decision. Better than postponing D2 for late May in my opinion.

[–]Lepojka1FaZe Clan Fan 153 points154 points  (28 children)

[–]TheLeprechaun04Ninjas in Pyjamas Fan 38 points39 points  (1 child)

Not to mention that the new map has been in csgo for sometime now. Just not in the active maps. If a team is proactive enough they could have used a little time to get used to it. But I'm not a pro player so wtf do I know.

Oh my. Did my Cobble Souvenir drop from the last major just rise in value?

[–]BlorkaCloud9 Fan 99 points100 points  (8 children)

Teams of all tiers have been getting creative with executes on all maps, it wouldn't surprise me but would also be great if teams started discovering viable smokes and plays to do to help change the "Pug star, AWP domination" feel that almost everyone says about Dust 2.

I hope Cobblestone is getting a proper overhaul, it's not a well made map if even you stack 4 or 5 people on a site, holding it is still a struggle.

[–]Diavolo222SK Gaming Fan 70 points71 points  (6 children)

Hard to invent new smokes on such a simple map. It would've been something else if they opened up the skybox, but NOPE. IT's literally the same since 1.5. SAme strategies. Different aimers.

[–]dalmationblackCloud9 Fan 29 points30 points  (4 children)

Exactly. If valve just opened the skyboxes they'd make the map much more interesting without affecting why people like it in pugs.

[–]Flaksmith 13 points14 points  (3 children)

It would make it more T-sided

[–]dalmationblackCloud9 Fan 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I mean you'd probably have to change some of the cover on sites to balance, but these are still minor changes.

[–]rdee3 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Opening up the skybox would allow the CT's to abuse it for aggression as well. On the surface it'd be T sided but it'd be hard to be certain without seeing what players come up with.

[–]TheRobidog100 Thieves Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as B tunnels stays indoors, it wouldn't. You can't aggress past tunnels towards T spawn, that's suicide, way too many angles to check. And everywhere else on the map (mid, cat, A long), you already have open sky boxes.

If you want to make the map less T sided, you have to let the CTs contest mid more easily.

[–]astrovisionary400k Hype 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is actually true. No real strategy concept has changed on this new dust 2. Only some rotation times and some new spots

[–]iplaywowlulSplyce Fan 86 points87 points  (19 children)

That stupid to have dust2 at epl finals.

The finals should have the same map pool as the online season.

[–]usteeloRenegades Fan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Put it this way, the offline season is like an extended qualifier where they are simply playing just to play on the big LAN, just like any other qualifier. If they implement it at Sydney, then it makes sense to do it at Dallas also.

[–]SomethingSimilars5 Year Subreddit Veteran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it makes sense, if you have it at IEM Sydney you should also have it at any following up tournaments otherwise you are going to be having to worry about 8 maps instead of 7.

[–]Jira93mousesports Fan 3 points4 points  (14 children)

[–]MkvarnerFnatic Fan 22 points23 points  (5 children)

Changing it up during the tournament doesn't make much sense when multiple teams got to EPL Finals and didn't reach EPL finals by playing Cobblestone.

And then they should play with a different map pool in the finals related to the online league?

[–]Jira93mousesports Fan 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Idk. I would agree with you if they were changing map pool mid-league, but adopting a different map for an entire segment of the tournament sounds ok to me

[–]JigSaW_3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When infernew had been added at the february of 2017 it was added to ESL PL mid-league tho and almost instantly. In bo1's veto it's not really that big of a deal if you think about, almost no harm if you don't want to play it.

[–]teef0urWelcome to the Clutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Teams have been playing cobblestone in the EPL online league and qualify for the finals as a result, I think the map pool should remain consistent throughout. Same for IEM Sydney as it is the same situation with the online qualifier. That said I'm very happy to see the back of cobblestone so honestly I'm not particularly bothered by this as a viewer.

[–]MkvarnerFnatic Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, it's just 2 weeks until EPL Finals. Doesn't really make much sense to change the map pool.

If it was mid season of EPL I could see why they would change it up as Cobblestone wouldn't be practised by any teams close to the tournament anyways due to prioritising Dust 2.

[–]jz96Renegades Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're doing the same with IEM Sydney and the qualifiers for that.

[–]mal4garfieldAstana Dragons Fan 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Start the season with a certain map pool, you should finish it with that.

Changing it this late is just stupid.

[–]RadiantSunmousesports Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they've been playing one map pool for an entire season and now the finals will have a different one? The league season should be considered part of the same "tournament" (and technically it is) and as such, it should be held with a consistent set of conditions throughout, as far as possible.

[–]DKTHUNDROpTic Gaming Fan 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Teams complaining about not having time to learn the map. The core of the map hasn't changed. Some minor tweaks to angles but overall its still d2. Back to boring CS, I guess.

[–]MajormlgnoobCloud9 Fan 135 points136 points  (26 children)

[–]mcrestoGuardian Elite 68 points69 points  (24 children)

You have more potential for creative strats on cobble than D2. I don't know about you, but I remember how stale CS matches got on d2. They didn't actually change anything on the map other than a face lift.

[–]RadiantSunmousesports Fan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cobble isn't boring but the tactics are beginning to die now because of long T rotates, B site being tough to hold and no real possibility for CT aggression.

[–]unexpectedrebootsTeam Liquid Fan 25 points26 points  (16 children)

I didn't find Cobble that boring.

Mirage is pretty boring right now IMO.

[–]mcrestoGuardian Elite 14 points15 points  (5 children)

Many teams have had roster changes since the last time dust 2 was in competitive. Although all the players have countless hours on the map, the team has at best minimal practice on it. They'll have to put together executes and ct set ups in minimal time

[–]K0nvictFaZe Clan Fan 43 points44 points  (18 children)

I don't have anything installed right now, is there an overview of the most recent changes? (Or when were the most recent changes?)

[–]mcrestoGuardian Elite 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I'd refer to 3kliks for any map updates. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJEYZZ6ZQf0

They've tweaked some box heights esp on A and middle. You can't really camp on A ramp like you used to. B really needed a rework and that was basically ignored.

[–]404GoodNamesNotFoundNatus Vincere Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opening up the skybox is really T sided. So im thing about a window that you can throw utility to outside of b from and that a man cant throw and go in. So the best thing you can do is to molly/smoke door

[–]Lasti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't complain when everyone's on the same level anyways. It's not like one team knew it was coming and started to practice the map months in advance.

[–]LNR-SebFaZe Clan Fan 16 points17 points  (4 children)

Everyone complaining saying that Cobble was one of everyone’s favorites...um no. You’re most likely saying that because you REALLY want that Cobble Drop but frankly most pros in countless of interviews have said that they would remove Cobble from Active Duty if they could.

[–]Space_WafflesSK Gaming Fan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting decision to use it at Sydney. I wonder how many teams will put a bunch of practice into this instead of other maps, or how many will just hope no one picks it and makes sure their other maps are well refined

[–]nawgzyCloud9 Fan 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I am not looking forward to this change. I thought Cobble was an exciting map to watch, if not play, and it had a unique playstyle and afforded interesting executes.

D2 is... I don't know, played out? I don't think there'll be that much tactical depth to the map, just headshots. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, let's see if Valve was smart about this redesign.

[–]T_Stebbins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's just so old is the problem. I have been playing that map for years and years, most other games that use different maps (Starcraft, Overwatch etc.) update and change them frequently.

CSGO needs new maps honestly.

Right question should be, is it really wise to think dust2 will never return to competitive so teams never practised it for half a year?

[–]YABAN55Team LDLC Fan 0 points1 point  (4 children)

[–]GladyxFaZe Clan Fan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Imo pro league finals should feature map pool teams played the whole season.

I'm a mere GN3 scrub but can anyone explain to me why Dust 2 isn't liked by some people? What are their concerns about it? I understand why it's controversial to have it in IEM Sydney, but I'm asking overall why some people don't like Dust 2.

[–]alm_swe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it, nice of ESL to spice things up :F

[–]NigerianpoopslayerVirtus.Pro Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty shit time to change it tbh, but then again so is pretty much all of May and June, so I guess they might as well.

I’m down, anything FaZe can get we need

karrigan on dust2, yikes. I remember them watching mid from b window a lot which was terrible.

[–]godemperor46 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TSM had a good run on d2 with karrigan

[–]dnkeiserFaZe Clan Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Karrigan only frags when no one else can, tell me something I don’t know.

[–]Fbnt1mousesports Fan 5 points6 points  (1 child)

mousesports - best ever team on this map (tradition). NOW THEY GO HUGE :D

[–]Penny_NicholsGambit Esports Fan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

without god denis and his right hand spiidolf they will do nothing

[–]sundow_Nmousesports Fan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d rather watch cobble than nuke

I know let's add in a map that wasn't featured once the entire season and take out a map teams worked on to get wins in pro league. Smart idea!

[–]LNR-SebFaZe Clan Fan 33 points34 points  (1 child)

Let’s add back the most iconic map ever and replace the one map that most pros have been asking to be removed from Active Duty!

[–]L0kitheliarOffice Veteran 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Or you know... lets bring back the most famous CS:GO map and remove the 1 map that the vast majority of pro players agree should leave the map pool

I would have preferred that they wait until after EPL finals. Imo it doesn't make sense to play a 3 month qualifier with one map pool just to use a different one in the main event last second.

the return of dust 2

Also just in: de_rats replacing all bomb detonation maps starting with IEM Sydney.

[–]BiC-Pen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see why virtus.pro didn't want to qualify for IEM Sydney, they saw it coming.

[–]kalintag90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too surprised by this, since the DS2 remake everyone has known it will re-enter the map pool. I'm not sure why they HAVE to replace a map with DS2 rather than just having all the maps open, I'm sure the pros can manage 8 maps over 7 (yes I know the pick/bans will leave one map unresolved). It makes sense Cobble being the one being replaced, Nuke is less played but it just had that refresher so i doubt Valve will want to pull it out of rotation yet. Mirage, Inferno, and Cache are too popular, this leaves Cobble, Train, and Overpass. I feel both Overpass and Train are solid maps, there is a lot strat variation and it's super hard to predict how the maps will go. This leaves Cobble. While I'm expecting DS2 to not be the most exciting, I am curious to see how the old strats hold up to the new map, maybe we'll get a pleasant surprise.

Removing the permaban of Astralis from the pool...I like it :)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So cobblestone is the next map to be remade?

[–]WolvesCallum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mouz and Astralis just got even better, very scary

[–]iCiteEverything 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I guess I'm the only person in this thread who enjoys watching dust 2

[–]V_AbhishekTeam Liquid Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good choice, just rip out cobble ASAP like a band-aid, no point in staggering it.

[–]tarangkHowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virtus Pro might have problem remaining a top 5 with this change

.......wait wrong year sorry

[–]fancyson_Immortals Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why they would do that for Sydney but it makes sense for events past that.
