Hey all, here we are again! Quick update on how spoilers are going to work with Season 5 coming in just a couple days (!!!). I've updated the sidebar, but I'll reiterate here:

  • SEASONS 1-4 SPOILERS IN COMMENTS ARE FAIR GAME - But ONLY in the comment section or the content of the post!!! NOT IN TITLES

  • Spoilers in post titles are NEVER ALLOWED this INCLUDES seasons 1-4, and now 5. This is to protect those people on Reddit apps who may come here before they're caught up.

I'll be posting episode discussion threads once the season is released. I would suggest that you keep most discussion in those threads! Please feel free to message the mods if you have any questions or concerns, and be sure to report posts that violate the rules!

Thanks so much everyone, can't wait to see the new season!

Cheers

Think I'm onto something. If you take "House of Cards" it makes the acronym "HOC." "HOC" backwards is "COH." If you replace all the C's with Z's, the O's with other O's, and the H's with E's, you get "ZOE" who I think will be the hero of Season 6. Anyone else figure this out?

I feel like season 5, while it was fine, it just wasn’t as good as its predecessors. Some of the things (Franks case, Tom Yates) felt drawn out to the point where I got tired of it. But season 6 had some true potential because Frank is at his best when he’s an underdog, and when he’s trying to gain power. In season 5, I felt like he was trying not to lose power instead of gaining.

With that being said, what would you guys have liked to see happen with Frank in season 6 and what type of things would be interesting for Claire? Just wanted to get some opinions.

I watched House of Cards when it first came out, but stopped after season 2 ended. I've considered rewatching, but I'm skeptical because of the unexpexted ending after the Kevin Spacey incident. Would you say it's worth watching?

The later series of the show I thought went in a wrong direction. No one really cares about maintaining policy once someone is at the top. The reason we have watched Frank is his ruthless and insatiable lust for power.

I thought personally once he was in the oval office, they were going to turn him into a dictator-like President. Perhaps under the disguise of terrorist legislation we would see civil liberties eroded, Press freedoms restricted, checks and balance diminished and some kind of enabling act that would have given him immense power. And he could have achieved this as Frank always had: through his genius political acumen.

I never wanted him to come to justice though as invariably the powerful rarely do. Perhaps after a journey of absolutely callousness, literally piles of dead bodies in gito-type camps, of both friends (Frankie) and perhaps Claire he would stare out the Oval window and break that famous fourth wall "You know what I love about people - they stack so well" and double tap his ring on the glass.

Or something just a bit dark and a warning of totalitarian governments like 1984

I have a poster up in my room of Frank Underwood sitting on the Lincoln memorial. I decided yesterday to get a Claire Underwood poster to match and I literally could not find one anywhere.

Do you guys think they'll ever make one since she is the lead of the show? I hope so.

She was the third most important character in the first season. I feel without her the show lost an interesting dynamics.

Both Peter Russo and Zoe were one of the most interesting characters when the show started and I feel we lost them too early without anyone who can really replace them.

So this is how I would start the final season.

Since Frank won't be returning, I think the only way to depart his character is too kill him off.

I would have the episode start with a black screen, happy cheering is heard in the outdoors. Clare is heard giving thanks to people at some sort of rally. Suddenly, GUNSHOTS, we hear Clare being rushed into a vehicle alongside Frank. Inside we hear the shock in her voice as she calls out for Frank. We then hear her in denial, saying no repeatedly.

I would then fade into a funeral scene for Frank.

When the family gets kidnapped and held for ransom do you think the actor behind the mask is the same actor that kills himself and frank gets his liver?

I feel like a lot of the attention has been put first on the spacey scandal and second on the fact Claire will now be the lead. But how do you think the story arc will continue/end? My personal wish would be for Claire to go all out and establish some kind of domination, but that doesn’t seem likely and I feel like she’s going to concentrate on being a good president and it’ll be kind of an underwhelming version of season 3.

Thoughts?

Something I enjoy looking out for in the show is all of Frank's little idiosyncrasies. An obvious one being tapping his ring when he leaves a table; less obvious ones like fiddling with things when he's on the phone (elastic bands, stress balls, commemorative eggs), his sandwich making 'rituals', and that way he flexes his wrist and fingers when he's angry and/or tring to think up a way out of the corner he's backed himself into.

Anyone notice any that I haven't?
