“I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?”

[–]KeaOnAKeyboard 30 points31 points  (1 child)

I was a social outcast when I was 12 and the only boys that lived near me would make a game out of beating the shit out of me every day.

So thank fuck I don't have friends like that anymore.

[–]HALabunga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof, that’s a tough break. Hope things are better for you.

[–]Lemonmeringuepie007 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I've still got them 28 years later. All ten of us. Extremely lucky.

[–]Ralph-Hinkley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Still play D&D?

[–]dbzlady 31 points32 points  (11 children)

River Phoenix <3

[–]MontgomeryB 14 points15 points  (10 children)

But look how he's the most serious looking of the bunch, met the worst end, even compared to Corey

[–]Ralph-Hinkley 8 points9 points  (9 children)

I have a feeling that he went through the same shit as Corey which led to his descent into drugs.

[–]CapLFSternn 14 points15 points  (6 children)

He stated that he list his virginity at age 4. He also claimed that the cult he was in "ruined peoples' lives". It's horrible to look back and realize whatve he must have gone through.

[–]Ralph-Hinkley 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Yea, I think he was wrapped up in some polygamist cult. I also think he said that Joaqin got out of it before too much damage.

[–]willowhanna[S] 3 points4 points  (4 children)

It was when they were only kids, Joaquin was born into it. Their family left the cult when they were still very young.

[–]Ralph-Hinkley 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Yea, that's what I said.

[–]BannedFrom4Subs 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Joaquin was pretty lucky. He managed to get out of it while he was super young.

[–]Ralph-Hinkley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was younger than five, iirc.

[–]MontgomeryB -1 points0 points  (1 child)

fuck.... you think? that never occurred to me cause he was so cool, like no one could victimize him. Again, so many young actors were molested, threatened, it's hard to know who and how it impacted their lives until now when few are speaking out

[–]Ralph-Hinkley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His family was in a polygamist cult when he and his siblings were young. River said he lost his virginity at four.

[–]Bileeb 26 points27 points  (2 children)

One of the best films of all time. Saw it as a kid and still watch it every couple of years. That and The Goonies, Lost Boys etc...

[–]enormuschwanzstucker 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Someone has a thing for Feldman

[–]Bileeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha not particularly actually. He tended to play annoying characters. However he was definitely the Spielberg golden child of those days and was really great at what he did.

[–]yeehah 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Cool pic. The clapboard that River is holding says "The Body" so I guess they didn't change the title of the film until later.

[–]willowhanna[S] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Yeah the distribution company changed the name a few months before it came out, they thought it sounded misleading

[–]Abestar909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The focus of the story always seemed more about their friendship anyway so I always found Stand By Me to be a better title.

[–]MissFunkyH 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Corey <3

[–]dbzlady 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Lol I just saw your comment after I posted mine.

[–]MissFunkyH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, we love our boys ;)

[–]Eman061903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude his new album tho 🔥🔥🔥

[–]woharris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love this film still to this day. Rip River

I hear they're making a sequel. It's called "Now Go Stand By Somebody Else."

[–]millireddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why don't you eat your dick?

It'll be a small meal.

[–]Marmite_Badger 8 points9 points  (17 children)

Hey /u/Wil, do you remember this being taken?

[–]SgWaterQn 0 points1 point  (9 children)

who is /u/Wil?

[–]willowhanna[S] 6 points7 points  (6 children)

Wil Wheaton. 2nd guy from the right in the picture. Cool guy.

It's cool, I've not talked to him ever before on Reddit, so I guess I have no idea what I'm talking about. /s

      [–]dissenter_the_dragon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Buddy, it is absolutely his account. You can't even see half the things he posts because you don't have access to a sub or two he's active in. The reason people are downvoting you is because they know for a fact that it's him.

      [–]Marmite_Badger -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

      ...Wil Wheaton?

      [–]SgWaterQn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/u/Wil is the real Wil Wheaton? All I see on his profile is him posting porn pics.

      [–]Doucevie4444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Such a great movie!!!

      [–]ellepelle27 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wow! Can’t believe that’s 33 years old. Epic film than. Epic film now.

      [–]BeefMedallion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Sincerely

      [–]juandonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fan of this movie and final fantasy it was really a surprise when I started playing final fantasy 15. I don't know how big the crossover is for those two fan bases, but 15 I felt was a lot better if you played the game and pretend it's a JRPG version of that movie.

Spoiler alert: The beginning of the game has all the main cast pushing their car to the nearest gas station, while Stand By Me plays in the background which is weird, but is kind of a neat set up for the rest of the game.

      [–]dbzlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Everything I’ve watched, and read about him he seemed to be very mature for his age, and took his career seriously

      [–]dj-shortcut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, that was a great movie.

      [–]Lawdoc1 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Hard to believe that the chubby kid, who is second from the left, went on to play the star football recruit in Jerry McGuire.

      [–]Ralph-Hinkley 1 point2 points  (1 child)

His name is Jerry O'Connell, and he's been in a lot more than just JM.

      [–]Lawdoc1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      I'm aware of that.

      [–]elementkennel 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I met him last month. He's very nice. And tall.

      [–]Lawdoc1 0 points1 point  (3 children)

It's always interesting to me to hear how screen actors seem in person.

      [–]elementkennel 0 points1 point  (2 children)

He was at a dog show I was at. He looked pretty damn good too.

      [–]Lawdoc1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

He seems like a very nice looking man.

      [–]elementkennel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is for sure. It was a weird situation, because people kept coming up to talk to me while I was basically asking why he was at a dog show. Kinda cool.

      [–]bigmike707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg get down from there, you might get hurt... Hello from 2018.. it sucks here

      [–]Ella_Lynn -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Back in the day when kids could wear whatever they wanted without being called out for being a nerd or freak.

      [–]Ralph-Hinkley 1 point2 points  (1 child)

      I think it's called wardrobe for a 1950s movie?

      [–]Ella_Lynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohh, thanks I didn't realize this was a 50's movie. Sorry
