[–]PM_ME_CHUBBY_DOGGIES 16 points17 points  (2 children)

What are you gonna do? Hit me with your jesus stick?

[–]Dagmar_Overbye 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Ekko's character arc was one of the most disappointing things about that show. One of the best characters. He did not deserve to leave so early or in such a lame fashion.

[–]ButWhy10128 4742 points4743 points  (122 children)

Pure bliss

[–]TheeParent[S] 3220 points3221 points  (117 children)

All I need is a Windows 95 machine and Solitaire.

[–]kyoto_kinnuku 854 points855 points  (52 children)

[–]just-signed-up 453 points454 points  (45 children)

Would last a few decades at least

[–]Nihilist37 568 points569 points  (33 children)

You need a Civ game. You might make it through one full game if you're lucky.

[–]everyonelikesupvotes 499 points500 points  (29 children)

Nuking a nation while being trapped inside a nuclear bunker would be the height of irony.

[–]whiskeyfriskers 259 points260 points  (7 children)

Ok, Gandhi.

[–]DankaMcDanka 83 points84 points  (3 children)

Gandhi, what are you doing? Gandhi.......

(WAR DECLARED)

WE WERE FRIENDS GANDHI!!!!!!!

[–]AntiLectron 32 points33 points  (2 children)

I once played a game of Civ and I thought "I'll nuke Gandhi before he nukes me!" But his capital tanked that nuke with half health remaining... That's when I knew I fucked up.

Spend 20 years building a utopian city only to have aliens steal all your buildings in 10 minutes.

[–]Mammal-k 27 points28 points  (10 children)

But how would you mod

[–]Whatsthemattermark 99 points100 points  (1 child)

Your mind would deteriorate to the point you imagine all the mods

[–]davidreaper 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah but daedric Thomas the tank engine would take at least 3 years of deterioration.

[–]MrHaxx1 45 points46 points  (4 children)

You make them yourself duh

[–]TheHeartlessCookie 52 points53 points  (5 children)

Dude, solitaire is the best.

[–]_Serene_ 16 points17 points  (4 children)

The finishing of a Solitaire game is pretty satisfying too.

[–]Some_Weeaboo 29 points30 points  (2 children)

[–]TheSpiceHoarder 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Windows 95 plus had the pinball.

[–]DulceEtBanana 41 points42 points  (2 children)

Noooooooooooooooooo!

[–]Jaymezians 2452 points2453 points  (33 children)

If he's really unlucky, he'll come out when he runs out of supplies only for the real thin to happen when he has no supplies left.

[–]-Prahs_ 1618 points1619 points  (24 children)

If I'm not in it I'll nuke everyone.

Love, Kim.

[–]Red_Otaku 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nuke me please

[–]BISHoO000 53 points54 points  (4 children)

That would be the worst

[–]Lithobreaking 33 points34 points  (3 children)

The worst would be if everyone knew you were gone, but didn't say anything because life is better without you.

Then, when you emerge years later, they are waiting with a camera crew and you're laughed at by the entire world right before they push you into a mud puddle and you drop your nerd glasses.

[–]hmfskmn 8988 points8989 points  (206 children)

It's not just him. It's him and multiple different people. And infighting begins to develop. They begin to kill each other, and when the original guy's the only person left alive in the shelter, he decides to kill himself by radiation poisoning. He opens the door and sees the town, just as it always has been...

[–]glaigas 1584 points1585 points  (25 children)

Or it will just be Brendan Fraser re-emerging in 30 years and becoming relevant again with his story of being raised in a bomb shelter.

[–]Bayirdacus 95 points96 points  (5 children)

Unbreakable Brendan Fraser

[–]weaglebeagle[🍰] 515 points516 points  (15 children)

Oh my lucky stars, a negro!

[–]kgolfer2012 155 points156 points  (8 children)

I watched this movie for the first time recently and I very happy I took the time to do so.

[–]PMYOUR_HIGH_HEELS 51 points52 points  (7 children)

What movie?

[–]TwoHeadsBetter 101 points102 points  (6 children)

Blast from the Past

[–]PMYOUR_HIGH_HEELS 23 points24 points  (5 children)

Thanks!

I rarely watch movies or tv shows, but sometimes I like to stumble into things. Might give it a whirl.

[–]grundelgrump 34 points35 points  (2 children)

It's got Christopher Walken too

[–]scoobdrew 14 points15 points  (1 child)

She'd bring him sandwiches, and hot Dr. Pepper.

[–]firstprincipals 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've seen several movies and/or TV shows.

Some of them are very good!

[–]Puff_Puff_Blast 34 points35 points  (4 children)

Blast from the past is agreat family movie.

[–]cwrunks 42 points43 points  (3 children)

"I'm sick of working for that dickhead."

"What?"

"You know, a walking penis capable of intelligent speech. A dickhead!"

or

"I thought only hookers drink those "

"Well I know Mom sure likes them."

[–]ImUsuallyAtAn8 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Maybe not a family movie then...

[–]myheartisstillracing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's about as wild as the movie gets. It's a sweet romantic comedy.

[–]mizmoxiev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was not expecting an actual subreddit to exist.

[–]MiddleBodyInjury 123 points124 points  (26 children)

There's always another subreddit

[–]5000miles2boston 222 points223 points  (15 children)

When people post a “joke” subreddit and it doesn’t exist. I make it and make them moderators. I haven’t been doing it long but it’s fun. I also pretend that I didn’t do it.

[–]rwtwm1 89 points90 points  (5 children)

Well you've rather blown the last part of your ruse.

E. spelling

[–]Lazy-Person 16 points17 points  (3 children)

This is not the subreddit I'm looking for...

[–]AyukaVB 64 points65 points  (11 children)

There was a movie with Brendan Fraser on similar premise

[–]Ortegzin 96 points97 points  (3 children)

You mean a 90s period masterpiece starring Brendan Fraser.

[–]sympson2612 28 points29 points  (1 child)

You're damn right, it is! Innocent/naive Brendan Fraser is all kinds of adorable (among other things.........). Gay Dave Foley is hilarious. Not to mention Christopher Walken , who is nothing short of a national treasure. He absolutely nailed that role!

I watched this movie so much when it first came out. Ratings be damned. It's a classic!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A movie I vividly remember cuddling in blankets between my parents on the couch watching as a weekend rental family special night. I love my parents, man.

[–]apatheticviews 30 points31 points  (5 children)

Blast from the past

[–]PmMeBackDimplesGirl 12 points13 points  (4 children)

Reminiscing about that movie sure is a blast from the past. Wish I could remember the name of the movie though.

[–]silent_boy 22 points23 points  (10 children)

It’s more like a Black Mirror episode

[–]Hakairoku 36 points37 points  (7 children)

Twilight Zone tackled the concept first many times over.

[–]FieelChannel 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Those fucking glasses tho

[–]MontanaIsabella 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Don't start me on that god damn episode. All The Time In The World was some of the most utterly frustrating television I have ever seen.

[–]whizzer0 6 points7 points  (1 child)

/r/WritingPrompts is now basically the same as this sub, except fictional

[–]F_Klyka 157 points158 points  (5 children)

Or better yet: He decides to take his life with a suicide pill. Once he's taken it, and starts feeling the effects, he decides to open the door to have one last look at the world and die in the now wasteland that was once his home.

When he realizes that the world is still alive and well, it's already too late to stop the effects of the suicide pill. He dies, his physical agony drowned out only by the realization that he wasted all those years, dragged his fellows with him and fought and killed them for nothing.

His death is never noticed in the media. The authorities fail to identify him and his death is written off as any another suicide. The bunker with his dead fellows is never found.

There's no trace of this fatal tragedy. It may just as well never have happened.

[–]MLGityaJtotheA 116 points117 points  (15 children)

why does this give me fallout vibes lol, this should have been like a mini story you could explore in fallout 4

[–]Lucid94 103 points104 points  (9 children)

That's because it is! Well, almost.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault_11

[–]MLGityaJtotheA 39 points40 points  (8 children)

Ooh I remember this now, but... Why did they decide the sacrifice to be the overseer? It doesn't make sense to give power to someone who knows they're gonna die, what was stopping previous overseers from doing the same thing as Katherine?

[–]BosmanJ 21 points22 points  (5 children)

I mean it could be a thing that just slipped in over time. People being unhappy about the overseers policies when they decide to sacrifice him turned into a tradition of sacrificing the overseer.

[–]Alicja907 28 points29 points  (4 children)

It was actually a thing from the beginning in Vault 11, with the first Overseer being the only one who initially knew about the sacrifice. When the other dwellers found out ABOUT THE SACRIFICE, it just became tradition to have the Overseer and the sacrifice be one and the same.

Edit: Since apparently context clues are difficult, I have clarified what the people of Vault 11 found out.

[–]Perforathor 26 points27 points  (2 children)

Vault 11 is kinda close, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault_11

Edit, oh woops, someone beat me to it.

[–]Challenger108 17 points18 points  (6 children)

So...the ending to Mist then?

[–]D1v1s10n 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Isn't this a Simpsons episode involving preppers?

My body is ready for Blast From The Past 2: Luau, with the Rock reprising Brendan Frasiers Role.

[–]LetsAllSmoking 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Brendan Fraser plays the role of the nuclear apocalypse this time around.

[–]itsryin 19 points20 points  (2 children)

there's also a book similar to this situation involving a family, I believe its called The Compound

[–]Asaseeker 94 points95 points  (6 children)

Preppers keeps am fm radios and usually a cb radio so that they can keep an ear out while the unprepared like us burn.

[–]RuxConk 41 points42 points  (1 child)

Exactly this. Plus being able to use a radio like that is a hobby in itself (In the UK you need to pass an exam to become a licensed transmitter so there is some degree of skill/knowledge involved) any prepper worth their salt will have the kit setup and will be like you said listening in.

[–]Eddy_Moon 943 points944 points  (90 children)

10 Cloverfield Lane

[–]SlendyIsBehindYou 77 points78 points  (10 children)

Of which the escape is a shot for shot ripoff of the ending of The Divide, a criminally underrated movie about a bunch of people stuck in a fallout shelter

[–]TheHopelessGamer 53 points54 points  (4 children)

The Divide does exactly one thing right, and that's making me feel like a super fucking creep just for being human.

Like I watch a lot of horror, but that movie, like Blindness, just put me in an awful place when it was done.

[–]I_Eat_Pain 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Is that the one where the Koreans nuked New York? And they have some space suit looking armor when they bust in the shelter

[–]TheeParent[S] 291 points292 points  (77 children)

That was an awesome movie until it wasn't.

[–]chappersyo 345 points346 points  (38 children)

So many people were salty about that ending, but they all knew it was at least somewhat connected to the original cloverfield, which is very much about big fucking aliens.

[–]skwolvie41 194 points195 points  (10 children)

Reminds me of when cartman convinced butters to go underground

[–]ScoobyyDooo 2130 points2131 points  (67 children)

Is it bad that I'm slightly jealous of this person?

[–]TheeParent[S] 840 points841 points  (32 children)

You and me both, buddy.

[–]FKYS 164 points165 points  (29 children)

I'm not your buddy, friend.

[–]smilelikeachow 140 points141 points  (6 children)

I'm not hungry, dad.

[–]domfitz 51 points52 points  (5 children)

I'm not your hungry hippos

[–]Schrecht 6 points7 points  (4 children)

But I am hungry tho.

[–]Nicetitts 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Would you like some spaghetti?

[–]BaxyBoo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Oh hi mark

[–]Totherphoenix 62 points63 points  (1 child)

There is literally nothing stopping you from going and locking yourself in a hole forever, dude. Follow your dreams.

[–]niemandnirgendwer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure bunkers capable of maintaining an independent supply of water, power and food for decades don't come cheap. I mean, at least you'd have to buy 50 years of groceries at once. And you'd probably have to used specialized stuff with better sealing and reduced oxygen content.

[–]Shippoyasha 48 points49 points  (16 children)

A little, until I realize I can't get a fresh burger in there.

[–]chappersyo 14 points15 points  (13 children)

You’d take a couple of cows down there obviously.

[–]theenglandofcity 279 points280 points  (31 children)

Sounds like it would be a great black mirror episode

[–]iamafanofsecretriver 185 points186 points  (27 children)

Not depressing enough.

[–]Thelegend26_ 308 points309 points  (15 children)

A man goes in with 10 survivors, his close friends and daughter. The years go by and it’s vault life, shit sucks, there’s nothing much to do, you hate it. On the yearly supply check you notice something bad, it’s running out. You realize it can’t feed all of you, it’s a good enough supply for a few people, but not 10. You do what you have to, it’s you and your daughter that matter. You pretend to hold a meeting in a new spot in the vault for a special occasion. In the room, your friends are wondering why it smells bad, you lock the door and turn on the incinerator. It’s a solid heavy door, you can’t hear the screams, but you cry anyway. You go to your daughters room, in there you found the note you wrote to her explicitly telling her not to go to the meeting. She must’ve forgot to read it. You cry, you’re alone, you’re angry at yourself, you have to take your own life, you decide to leave the shelter, just to see what happened. The war never happened. Your old town is the same. You cry.

[–]l3linkTree_Horep 152 points153 points  (2 children)

then you dab the pain away

[–]Risley 14 points15 points  (1 child)

then you vlog the pain away

[–]Simonster3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Then you take selfies with the ashes, laugh, and call them suicides to avoid murder charges.

[–]fakenate28 39 points40 points  (2 children)

That’s the mist.

[–]BruceTheUnicorn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think anything had me come away with that same feeling of sadness and helplessness until I saw Black Mirror.

[–]Sherezad 26 points27 points  (6 children)

I dunno, have you seen the recent season? It's rather cheerful compared to some previous ones.

[–]abraksis747 120 points121 points  (1 child)

Easier ways to get a Blast from the past sequel

[–]uraffululz 43 points44 points  (0 children)

"Leave my elevator alone!"

[–]neko_ceko 58 points59 points  (13 children)

What's that movie where a family goes down in their small shelter under their suburban house because of a false alarm and then they emerge decades later in a middle of a big city? That's pretty much the only thing I remember. I think it was a comedy.

[–]ldamron 39 points40 points  (2 children)

Blast From the Past.

[–]IlllIIlIiIIIlIl 22 points23 points  (1 child)

How would they not hear the construction going on lmao.

[–]surlycanon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They thought it was radioactive beasts battling on the surface.

[–]AllPurposeNerd 54 points55 points  (20 children)

I kinda wanna hear from the people who heard that nuclear death was on its way, went out to greet it, and were disappointed when it turned out to be a false alarm.

[–]martindm03 105 points106 points  (5 children)

I feel like this was a movie, with Christopher Walken. During the cold war when the threat of nuclear war was pretty high, there's an emergency broadcast and he takes his family into a fallout shelter he had built thinking the bombs were about to fall. They live there for like a couple decades then send the son out to get supplies because they're low on food. Can't remember the name but it was a neat movie.

[–]BetaThetaOmega 19 points20 points  (2 children)

He'll be so pissed when he finds out that Fallout didn't actually happen.

[–]TheBlackFlame161 30 points31 points  (1 child)

Already killed his neighbor in revenge for letting his dog shitting on his lawn before he locked himself in the shelter

"Whoops"

[–]FinerShiner69 19 points20 points  (1 child)

I think anyone with a bomb shelter would probably have a radio.

[–]josh_the_nerd_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m really surprised that I had to scroll this far down to see this comment.

[–]crnimjesec 132 points133 points  (24 children)

ELI5, please?

[–]czarfalcon 249 points250 points  (19 children)

Earlier today, the state of Hawaii accidentally sent out a mass emergency alert saying a ballistic missile was on its way and people needed to take shelter - which obviously ended up being a false alarm.

[–]Sjorsa 59 points60 points  (17 children)

Where does such a false alarm come from?

[–]hugokhf 88 points89 points  (10 children)

some people mispressing a button

[–]Sjorsa 31 points32 points  (5 children)

How do you mispress an entire alarm tho?

[–]hugokhf 54 points55 points  (4 children)

Governor Ige said human error during one of the thrice-daily shift changes at the state's Emergency Management Agency (EMA) was to blame for the false alert.

"It was a procedure that occurs at the change of shift where they go through to make sure that the system, that it's working. And an employee pushed the wrong button," he explained.

"It was an inadvertent mistake," said EMA administrator Vern Miyagi. "The change of shift is about three people. That should have been caught... it should not have happened."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-42677604

[–]The-Beeper-King 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Well... looks like it works.

  • guy who pressed wrong button.

[–]0321Reddit 34 points35 points  (1 child)

Hawaii got a false alarm for incoming ballistic missiles that wasn't quickly cancelled. People could still be hiding

[–]Pectojin 70 points71 points  (2 children)

Hawaii isn't that big, you'd probably be able to tell when a missile hit from the shockwave or the tremors.

In September there were reports of North Korea being shaken by two tremors after a nuclear test and it's pretty similar in size (like 300km across NK and 300km between the big island and Honolulu)

[–]niemandnirgendwer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Well, in the film the the issue was that a plane crashed on the house of the people in the bunker. Which molt their surface sensors.

You're also not actually capable to notice these tremors yourself. For that you really need a seismograph and ways to make sure your toddler in the next room stomping isn't mistaken for an earthquake. Not easy to do.

Really, the nuclear tests lead to tremors of 5.something on the Richter-Scale. If you could notice that in 300km distance, you could notice earthquakes above 8 on every place on earth. But that's not the case.

Edit: Also those were underground tests. Airbursts do obviously not even cause a fraction of the seismic waves. So to notice a nuclear blast it would make sense to react to the radiation (they're quite bright).

[–]fat_lazy_mofo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Plot twist, he got the update but hates his wife.

[–]DisguisedAsHuman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Uuuuuunbreakable...he’s alive damnit...

[–]chrisrodsa210 9 points10 points  (2 children)

They did make a movie based on that thought. Blast From the Past with Brendan Fraser.

[–]smolderingsage 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Is that the one with Brendan Fraser?

[–]BottledWafer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably, not really sure, but I bet Brendan Fraser was in it.

[–]contrabardus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

35 years later, Brendan Frasier emerges from the bunker...

[–]ChampurradoPapi3000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a “Blast From The Past” remake to me, which I can get behind.

[–]axelmanFR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Somewhere, a man checked his phone, swore a bit, swallowed a lot of tablets, laid down on his bed, checked his phone again, swore a bit and stuck his fingers down his throat.

[–]Needs-More-Nuking 7 points8 points  (1 child)

What if the bunker had WiFi?

[–]eric685 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]KhalifaKidV2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I too read the top comment from the r/news thread
