Wednesday nights just aren't the same without a discussion of the Americans, so here it is, the official discussion thread for the end of the series. Now that everyone's had a chance to digest the finale, it's time to let it all out. Share your final thoughts, most memorable moments, lingering questions, maybe even your favorite disguises. As previously mentioned, we'll also have additional discussion threads with specific themes over the next few days, so keep an eye out for those.
On behalf of the mod team (/u/mrdude817, /u/shark_and_kaya, /u/Plainchant, and yours truly), I also want to thank you all for making this subreddit such a great place to talk about The Americans. I know it's made the experience of watching the show so much more enjoyable for me personally, and I hope you guys feel the same.
I feel like I've been seeing a number of people say they either wanted to do a rewatch or have already started, so I thought would gauge the sub's interest in doing one in a semi-organized fashion. Leave a comment if you're interested. If you have a preference as to time, schedule, format, etc., please indicate that as well. In other words, when should we start it? How many episodes should we do a week? Should we do a S6 rewatch or a full series rewatch?
What burning questions do you have for (creator) Joe Weisberg and (showrunner) Joel Fields?
I’d love to hear their thoughts on the Mischa storyline and what they thought that was furthering for the other characters.
Here's another chance for all you Claudia fans to get a squirrel pin for your collection. There are actually several pins up for auction right now, but this is just one of them: https://auctions.fox.com/iSynApp/auctionDisplay.action?auctionId=2402865&pgcust1=&pgmode3=livebid&
[Please, no spoilers]
I've watched seasons 1-5 over the last few years. The show started out great, and the last season (5) was mediocre at best. Without revealing any spoilers, is it true that season 6 (2018) is the final season and that there is some resolution for Elizabeth and family? ...or did F/X push it out another season (to 7)?
Sorry for the shit post. I know it doesn’t add “value” to the sub but I just gotta say that this show has been on me and my wife’s watch list for a long time and for one reason or another we never started it until this past weekend when we binged the first season. What a ride, man it’s such a great show with great writing and acting. We are hooked!!
Keri and Matthew have also received nominations in both lead actor in a drama categories. Well deserved.
Edit: The series finale has also received a nomination for Best Writing in a Drama series. Sadly Noah Emmerich didn't receive a nomination for his heartbreaking performance.
There is no justification for leaving him off the Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
What can we expect from the people who gave Jeff Daniels Newroom performance best lead male in a drama over prime Brian Cranston in Breaking Bad? Hope Americans wins best series.
