Western historians seem to be at pains trying to claim only 7,000-10,000 soldiers fought during the siege on the Byzantine side, but this seems suspiciously low given that there were up to 42,000 men available to fight. I'm finding it hard to believe that these 42,000 did absolutely nothing during the battle. And furthermore, it seems suspiciously low to have only this many people in a city that was still admired across the globe, and it also being the capital of their empire. I need the Turkish opinion and sources here to help - so can anyone please find me sources that tell how many soldiers were present on both sides?

Sorry if you guys got a lot of these, I did search the subreddit and got a few ideas from the English posts. Just keep it short Im back in Australia these days and my dad was deported back to Turkey a decade ago from the UK, he's working and that but I was hoping to find something nice to get him as a present.

Ideally Id like to send him either a bit of booze that he misses or some cigars, maybe even physical money in a parcel. The only concern I have is customs and it being hit with big taxes or stolen altogether, hes doing okay with some small work but not super well off with money. Would anything like electronics be worth while? or still get taxed

I am trying to find information about legislation being discussed in Turkey - in regards to work/education/foreigners and etc. Articles can be in Turkish, I'm just curious to know what has been discussed over the last few weeks or so.
