Option 1: Opt out of the redesign

If you're on the redesign, we recommend changing your reddit setting to use the old site. Our community is much harder to use with reddit's new design. We weren't properly consulted on or notified of the changes, so the best course of action for you as a user is to use the old design that we know works well. Open your user settings from the top right and select "Opt out of the redesign". Alternatively, use https://old.reddit.com/ for the full experience.

Now you will be able to see the sidebar rules in full, rather than having to use the pastebin, and you will be able to see the custom submit link too.

Option 2: Work around the redesign

Don't want to opt out of the redesign?

Click here to open and read the subreddit rules: https://pastebin.com/Jg2irFvf

Click here to make a build request: http://is.gd/awaniv. You may need to click "switch to markdown editor" and refresh the page if nothing appears.

Bear in mind that posts not using the request template will be automatically removed! If you want to make a post without the template, you can put [Meta], [Discussion], [Question] or [Update] at the start of your post's title. Then you can delete the template and make your post.

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using. I will be using this to edit photos via photoshop, and videos with Sony Vegas Pro 14. I will also be looking to expand into 3d art,and haven't decided on what programs I wold use, because my current laptop would struggle to render high quality 3d. So no work has been done on that. Just lighter renders from Photoshop. I also play the occasional games like Tera, BnS, and Stardew Valley, would like to be able to play higher quality games when I can too if possible, but definitely not a necessity.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes? My maximum budget would be anywhere from 1,000 to 1350 before rebates/shipping/taxes.

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy. Within the next week, but if there is a deal/product someone really thinks I should wait for, I don't mind having too.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc) I need the Tower, Windows OS, A monitor capable of 4k video, and a keyboard and pretty much everything else needed to make a computer function (Ram, storage, GPU, CPU, cooling if needed, etc.). I already have an Rgb gaming mouse, and a Hyper X headIset.

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location? I will be purchasing the parts in California, USA. and yes I have access to a Microcenter location.

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated. I will not be reusing any parts

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU? I think overclocking may be useful for intense renders and/or gaming, so yes, I would like it right away. At least for the GPU.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc) I would like and SSD for programs, and HDD for file storage, so I need a large amount of storage for the Hard drive.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components? I am not particularly choosy about case size, but RGB would be nice. What's important to me is having the tower size and style be efficient enough to meet the needs for the parts inside.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference? I would like a copy of Windows included in the budget.

Extra info or particulars: Please keep the monitor under 40in.

I managed to save $150 from my allowance and I want to to use it to upgrade my current setup. I would really appreciate it if someone can review my current build and help me which component I should upgrade first.

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

I rarely play games but the only game that I'm currently playing is Dota 2. But I also want to play Monster Hunter World on low to medium setting.

I will use this mainly for browsing with multiple tabs open, and Photoshop and Illustrator. also would want it to be able to run smoothly on two displays.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

$150

**When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

Next week or the week after next is okay.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

no

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

  • Replace this text with answer.

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

Case, monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

Not at the moment. I don't know how to overclock or how overclocking works. I will need to read on that first.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

SSD within the budget. I'm fine if an SSD is the only part that I can buy for now.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

no

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

no

I know my budget isn't much. I only want to upgrade it one at a time until I can save money again for upgrade. Thanks!

Below is my current setup.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Type Item
CPU Intel - Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard Asus - H81M-D PLUS Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory Kingston - HyperX Fury Blue 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card Zotac - GeForce GT 730 2GB Video Card
Power Supply I have a generic power supply
Operating System I have Windows 10 already installed

edit: Thanks a lot to everyone that helped! I'm well aware that my current setup is outdated and I'll save more money from my allowance so I can upgrade more parts sooner.

Last week I was able to build my new gaming pc with great help from this sub. Now a friend asked me if I could build her a PC for her office. Would appreciate every tip or build suggestion because I know have some insight in building a gaming rig but have no idea what a pure office computer should look like performance wise.

Edit: Like, do I even need a GPU or is integrated graphics sufficient for an office build?

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

Purely office Computer. So basically only Browser and Microsoft Office software.

She also asked for photo editing. But this would be only amateur photo editing for like funny birthday cards and stuff. If this makes a huge difference on the build (price) we could consider leaving this option out of the new PC.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

Around 800€ but this should include a Monitor as well as a Mouse and Keyboard if possible.

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

As soon as possible

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

Tower, Monitor 27", Keyboard, Mouse

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

Germany

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

No reusing

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

I dont think we have to think about OC.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

SSD (125GB should be enough). Storage I would go for 3TB.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

I want to keep it clean and simple. No RGB or lighting. The size should be at maximum mid-tower.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

Will use unactivated Windows 10 for the start

Extra info or particulars:

If you have read until here I want to thank you for taking the time and hope you have a great week!

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

I will mainly be gaming. I mostly play Rainbow Six: Siege, but also Fortnite, PUBG, GTA, and will play COD Blackout, Fallout 64, and Division 2. I will also use it for a little work, but that’s just through a vpn so my specs won’t really matter. Other than gaming, I want to be able to run discord, some browser sessions, and maybe one other program while gaming.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

Maximum is probably somewhere around $2,500, would prefer around $2,000

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

ASAP, maybe next week if possible

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

Case, monitor, keyboard, mouse, chair, and every inner component of the PC

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

In United States, specifically Louisiana and there is no Microcenter around.

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

Already have a headset (Steelseries Arctis 7) but everything else will need to be bought.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

Interested in learning about it, but it’s not a necessity.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

Want an M.2 SSD drive, but everything else is whatever.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

I’d prefer an ATX build, and I don’t care about RGB. If the RGB is included that’s fine, but not needed. Would prefer a white/black theme.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

I do not need a copy of windows. Already have Windows 10 Pro

Extra info or particulars:

No extra info for now.

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

  • Will be an office PC and a kids gaming PC. No high end gaming; I do want at least 32 GB of RAM

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

  • Max budget is $2,000 (USD), but I'd reather not spend that much

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

  • One week

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

  • Core system, I have Keyboard, mouse, and dual 1920x1200 monitors. I hope to move to a 3 monitor layout, probably 4k each (I am OK buying and additional video card when that happens)

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

  • In US, MicroCenter is less than 10 miles away

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

  • I have Keyboard (Corsair K70?), mouse (MS Sculpt BT), and dual 1920x1200 monitors (Dell Ultra 24" from 2005-2006, will be upgraded separately)

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

  • No, I want stability.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

  • SSD, prefer M.2, 512 GB minimum. I have a NAS server for archives; minimum 32 GB RAM, support for latest USB standards.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

  • No Window, I want support for 2 video cards because I want to be able to eventually support 3x 4k monitors. Prefer a smaller case, no need for DVD drive. External LED's might be a fun option to interest my daughter.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

  • Windows 10 Pro at a minimum

Extra info or particulars:

I intend to build the PC with my 7 yo daughter as much as possible;

Thanks, I've built many PC's but just don't have the time to get current

  • >**What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.**

-I just want a decent PC that I can play Overwatch, and Final Fantasy XV on (I don't need max settings, but looking to atleast run it on High or Ultra at 1080p with around 60fps, but understand that it may be difficult with the provided budget). I will also be using Photoshop, Illustrator, Unity, and Blender on this machine as well

  • >**What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?**

  • >**When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**

-ASAP. Not in a rush, but would like to get this going relatively soon

-I have no issue with the OS and I already have a Monitor, Keyboard, and Mouse. Suggestions for new ones would be nice, but not necessary

US. There is a Microcenter up North that I could go to

  • >**If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.**

Apologies if this is the wrong subreddit - let me know where I can get advice and guidance on prebuilts. I don't have the time or ambition for a custom build.

I have narrowed it down to these computers (I am in Canada)

  1. Cyberpower PC

  1. Dell Gaming

  1. iBuyPower Dektop

  1. ABS Desktop

  1. Dell XPS Laptop

I threw the laptop in there because it has great specs and I'm still not 100% sold on a desktop however it seems like desktop is the way I should go.

>**What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.**

Dual display browsing in 1080p, single display to 4k for entertainment, rendering in 3DS Max, design in Adobe Illustrator and AutoCAD, occasional video editing, gaming in VR once I can afford an HTC Vive

>**What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?**

1350CAD

>**When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**

This month

>**What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc\)**

Tower only

>**Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?**

BC, Canada

>**If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.**

1080p moniters

>**Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?**

Not sure, probably not

>**Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**

Longevity - a strong and new CPU is important (8th gen i7) as I'm hoping to have this last more than 5 years, RAM, graphics, and storage can all be upgraded later

>**Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**

No

>**Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?**

Windows 10

I'm not super well versed in the components and what is important but I've placed a priority on having a new and powerful CPU and a decent GPU. Please let me know if I'm off base with what I'm looking for!

Thank you!

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

  • I will use the PC mainly for gaming. Lol, Total War, Stellaris and the Wichter 3 is what I am looking forward to play.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

  • 1.200 -1.300

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

  • I would like to order parts on friday.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

  • Tower, OS, Monitor, Headset

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

  • Germany, Baden Württemberg

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

  • San Disk Ultra II Solid State Drive SSD 500 GB. (SDSSDHII SATA 2.5)

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

  • No

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

  • I will need ~1,5 TB storage. I am not sure how it should be divided in SSD and normal storage.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

  • cheap and quiet are the two important factors for me.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

  • yes Windows 10

Extra info or particulars:

  • Thank you alot - Ü

Hello,

I'm preparing to migrate away from the Mac world simply because of it's price, performance, and customer service. I'm a videographer who shoots on the Panasonic GH5 and sometimes use the RED camera. But anyways, below are questions you've asked.

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

Primarily I'll be using this PC to edit films. I use Adobe Premiere Pro but dabble in After Effects. I use Photoshop and Lightroom occasionally for marketing material. I rarely play games but dabble in it once in a while. Games is not a priority for me. I just want to edit smoothly and render videos in quicker times.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

$1,800

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

I'm just shopping around. So I'd say probably in a month or two.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

I have most of the peripherals covered. I only just need the tower and computer parts.

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

I'm from New York. Microcenter is near me.

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

I'm currently using an editor's keyboard, LG 34UM59-P 34" 21:9 FreeSync IPS Monitor, a mouse (not sure what it is but it works fine), and I have speakers and bose headphones.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

I'm not exactly sure. Whichever gets me better performance when editing.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

SSD, and storage would say 2TB. I have external hard drives when editing.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

Just want to keep it nice and simple. No RGB lights because it could mess with my color grading.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

I do not need windows included in the budget.

Extra info or particulars:

I'd just like to say thanks for taking out the time to help me build an editing PC!

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

  • League, Dawn of War 2, Steam games like Slime Rancher, Subnautica, Age of Mythology etc. Nothing like COD or Fallout. I'll also be working with Unity, and 3D modeling/rendering, mostly with Maya.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

  • $1,000.00 USD

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

  • By the end of this week!

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

  • Just the tower. It will have to fit comfortably within a desk space of 19"H x 9"W x 18"D

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

  • United States, Illinois. I do have access to a Microcenter.

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

  • My Western Digital 1TB HD 7200 RPM SATA interface is a must as it has my OS. I'll also reuse my Dell 19" monitor, speaker bar, Alienware mouse, and Alienware Keyboard. Optionally I have my old Alienware Aurora R2's Liquid cooling unit, Disk Drive, two 1GB Kingston RAM cards and two 2GB Samsung RAM cards.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

  • No, I'm not interesting in overclocking.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

  • I'd like a disk drive, but nothing special otherwise.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

  • I would prefer a Mini tower, but I'll go to mid if need be. As I stated above the space I'm working with is 19"H x 9"W x 18"D. I would also prefer it to be clear or with a window.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

  • Windows 10 is on my current hard drive, but if I need a new drive I'll need a new copy of Windows to put on it.

Extra info or particulars:

  • Thank you for your time!

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

I want to use it mainly for machine learning. So large SSD, CPU, GPU, and RAM I woul imagine.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

$1300-1400 before taxes. About $1500 total after taxes and everything for just the tower.

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

I hope to buy the parts this week.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

The tower. I don't need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, or speakers.

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

BC, Canada

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

Monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

Yes, I may be.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

Whatever is best to run machine learning algorithms (probably 500GB+ SSD and strong GPU and 16GB+ of RAM)

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

None.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

No.

Extra info or particulars:

Nothing else.

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

  • Gaming at 1080p, upgrading to 4k in the future (please see bottom)

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

  • My entire budget for the project is 1,500. I already have a case, PSU, and a HDD. Will also be buying a SSD drive as well. Would really like to keep it lower since I am getting a cheaper GPU than previously planned.

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

  • Within 2 months. Open to waiting for newer generation CPU, etc.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

  • I already have a tower and a capable PSU. Also have a HDD drive, would like to get a new SSD. Monitor is not a priority, already have one.

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

  • USA, do have access to local microcenter

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

  • Will be reusing tower and PSU for sure. Link to PSU and current mobo at bottom

Copy and paste of my previous post on buildapc

My old PC has essentially crapped out (won't function at all) and I've been looking to build a new rig for quite sometime. I was really waiting to see how the benchmarks were going to pan out with the RTX 2XXX series and it seems underwhelming for the price. With that in mind, and 7 nm GPUs on the horizon, I figured I would be better off building with a more low-mid range GPU for the moment, and upgrade it at a later time. Of course I don't want to skimp on my CPU as I would be using it with a better GPU in the future.

I will be using this PC for gaming at 1080p. Looking for good framerates of course, and will eventually make my way to gaming at 4k once I get a different GPU in the future. I have settled on a RX 580 8 gb as my interim GPU. Hopefully this will provide enough punch to let me game for a while and not feel rushed to buy a next generation card. My current MOBO (which I am pretty sure I will need to replace) and PSU are listed below...

Mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131665

Power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703030

My major questions are what processor would you all recommend I purchase? Something that would still be able to hang with the next generation of GPUs...

What is a reasonable amount of ram to go for? Once again something that will last me to the next gen of GPUs

And finally, I assume I need a new MOBO? Any suggestions?

*EDIT - I suppose I should mention that my entire budget for the project is 1,500. I already have a case, PSU, and a HDD. Will also be buying a SSD drive as well. Would really like to keep it lower since I am getting a cheaper GPU than previously planned.

Considering this... advice on CPU, RAM, and mobo appreciated

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

Mainly for photo editing using large RAW files on Lightroom and Photoshop, I will also be looking to use 3D modelling software such as AutoCad, then rendering the 3D files to create visuals. Pretty much no gaming.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

  • £1700 for components. (£2000 with shipping, monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc)

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

  • Next month or so (might wait for blackfriday type deals)

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

  • Case, MOBO, PSU, CPU + Cooler, Storage, GPU, RAM, FANS, Monitor (suitable for the purpose), OS, keyboard and mouse.

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

  • UK

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

N/A

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

  • Yes but down the line, to get max use out of the parts as the software develops to use them better.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

  • Decent storage for Photo Library and cad files.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

  • Currently leaning towards a stealth looking ITX with subtle LEDs

Gaming at 1440p 144hz at the highest settings possible for my budget

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

Around 2500 euros

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

In about a week

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

Just the pc itself, no monitor

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

Germany

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

I will be using a Dell S2716DG as a monitor and keyboard/mouse from my old pc.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

Yes, I plan on overclocking the CPU if the cooler/processor allows it

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

I'd like it for it to be as quiet as possible (within reason, it doesn't need to be passively cooled or anything like that).

Possibly a 2080ti if it fits into the budget, but I'm not sure if it's worth the cost (since there are no benchmarks yet). I'm open to other GPU suggestions.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

A case that is focused on being quiet, looks don't matter much. For example a Fractal Design Define R6

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

No

I know it's early, looking at my options right now to answer questions from family and haven't looked into computer parts in a long time. Family wants to all give money for the new PC as X-mas present. Price isn't set in stone but I'm really not sure what the ballpark is for what I want. Computer will be used for online school as well as gaming so reliability is important. I'm about to leave home for work, but will check back later to answer any follow up questions. Thanks in advance.

To get the best PC possible, contributors might ask extra questions. If you have any extra information you might be asked about, just include it in the "Extra info or particulars" part of the template before you post.

Contributor Rules

All builds must have some form of parts list, pricing, and an explanation or brief description of your suggestions.
This lets OP know why you've suggested what you have, and it lets others see your thought process & learn from it.

When coming into a thread where others have already posted builds, look over existing suggestions before posting your own. This means you see any additional information that may have been provided by the OP, and also gives you a chance to give suggestions to other builders.

Carefully read through provided criteria.
If you need more information, just ask the requester. It's better to ask than make an assumption.

Aim to keep below budget.
If you feel it's necessary to go over budget, make sure to justify it. It's also worth suggesting how your build can be pared back to be within the original budget if needed.

Check stock on items you include in a build.
This goes especially for sale items. You'll find sale items can be out of stock, meaning you'll have to find an alternative.

No advertising or payment for personal gain.
This includes all sale of hardware, software or labour, "PM me for x" posts and "donations" in return for advice or other goods. This is not a place for personal gain.

Absolutely no troll suggestions.
If you aren't willing to make a serious suggestion, don't make one. Stupid or sarcastic suggestions only confuse those needing help.

Try to keep advice in the thread, rather than in private messages.
Unless it's obvious that it's more appropriate, keep all discussion in the thread. It allows users (both those involved and not involved) to come back and reference it later, and use it as a learning tool.

General Rules

Keep discussion polite, civil, and on-topic.
Disruption, rudeness and derailing are all grounds for your post to be removed. Report posters you believe are violating this by using the report function or messaging the moderators here.

Message the moderators if you have any questions, issues or queries. We're here to help!

Message the moderators if you see someone consistently posting builds with severe issues.
Send a message here.

Don't blindly downvote 'bad builds'. Reply with some ways the suggestions could be improved.
The only way to improve is if somebody tells you how and why your suggestions aren't great. Remember to reserve your downvotes for posts that are grossly misleading or flawed, or add no meaningful discussion to the thread.

Discussion of piracy and "grey-market" OS keys is forbidden.
This includes all promotion, discussion, suggestion, implication, insinuation etc. of piracy, so-called "grey-market" OS licence keys, and resold licenses. Such licenses may come from key-selling websites or other sites, including reddit. If it's unusually cheaper than retail, it's probably forbidden. If you're not sure, send a message to the moderators and ask. Posts breaking this rule will be removed and not reinstated.

Circumvention of rules is strictly prohibited.
Such circumvention may result in a ban. This includes, but is not limited to, obfusticating information or offering private messages.

Posts may be removed at the moderators' discretion.
Nothing is ever black-or-white, so if a post is clearly detrimental to the community, it will be removed.
