Welcome to the Daily Question thread at /r/churning!

This is where you post questions you have regarding churning for Miles/Point/Cash. We recommend that if you are new to our sub, you really should spend a few hours reading the wiki and sidebar articles, as we have a lot of content that can answer most questions.

Warning: this sub relies much on self-moderation. Posting of questions that are already answered on the sidebar could result in down-votes. Posting questions that shows you haven't done any reading or research is like dropping a fish into a pool filled with sharks.

Ever since we started the Shutdown Reports Megathread, there have been quite a few comments asking for a Megathread with counter-DPs. There are many who feel that only highlighting the shutdowns, contributes a "confirmation bias" that exaggerates how common these shutdowns really are.

Similar to the Shutdown Reports Megathread, Top Level Comments are restricted to Avoided CHASE! Shutdown Reports ONLY. Additionally, in the interest of aggregating a meaningful dataset, YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS BEFORE POSTING:

  • Successful approval (or denial without shutdown) for a Chase card WITHIN THE LAST 3 MONTHS
  • At the time of your application, your X/24 status was AT LEAST 7+/24
  • At the time of your application, you held AT LEAST 4 Chase Personal & Biz cards

Please use the following format to report your shutdown.

Chase info/relationship:

  • Most recent successful Chase card approval(s):
  • List of all Chase cards prior to application. Please include mm/yy opened and CL:
  • List all Chase banking accounts:

Personal Info:

  • FICO:
  • AAoA:
  • # of Inquiries on EX, EQ, & TU, in last 6 mos / 12 mos / total:
  • # of credit lines opened (personal CR + Chase Biz) in last 6, 12, & 24 months across all banks / total credit lines:
  • Overall utilization across all credit cards as currently reported to the credit bureaus:
  • Total Percentage of CL to Income at Chase:
  • Total Percentage of CL to Income across all credit lines:
  • Do you have a mortgage and/or HELOC? Please identify whether the loan(s) is with Chase or Other bank/CU:

MS Activity (Chase Cards Only):

  • List all methods of MS used:
  • List volume of MS in the last 30 / 90 / 180 days:
  • Do you cycle your credit limits?
  • Ratio or percentage of MS compared to organic:

Spending Behavior / 'Consumer Profile':

  • How much organic spend (Monthly or Annually) do you put on your Chase cards?
  • Have you in recent history significantly increased or decreased either the level of your organic spend or MS?

Additional Info:

List any additional info that you think is relevant.

What Card Should I Get Weekly Thread, where we try to figure out what card you should get or critique your current plans or AOR if you're doing it that way). Everything is YMMV and these are all opinions. Agree or disagree with your votes. As always read the wiki, do your research, and happy churning.

Also, check out the Credit Card Recommendation Flowchart before posting in this thread.

  1. What is your credit score?

  2. What cards do you currently have or have you had in the past (including closed cards), along with dates of when you were approved for the cards? Please include month and year for any card approved in the last 3 years.

  3. How much natural spend can you put on a new card(s) in 3 months?

  4. Are you willing to MS, and if so, how much in 3 months? See this page for a primer on MS. Plastiq (for rent/mortgage/loan payments) and bank account funding are often good options for beginners.

  5. Are you open to applying for business cards? If not, why? See this post and this wiki question to learn more.

  6. How many new cards are you interested in getting? Are you interested in getting into churning regularly (if you aren't already)? Or are you just looking to get a new card(s) for now but not get into churning long-term?

  7. Are you targeting points, Companion Passes, hotel or airline statuses, First Class, Biz, Economy seating(s) or cash back?

  8. What point/miles do you currently have?

  9. What is the airport you're flying out of?

  10. Where would you like to go? (The More specific you are, the better someone can recommend the right card. Tokyo is great, "International travel" is way too vague)

Based on the Survey results in June 2017, we decided to start a Code Sharing specific thread. The intention, as stated, is to facilitate the sharing of codes in a centralized thread.

WARNING: The Mods will NOT arbitrate or moderate any issues resulting from Code Sharing. We're sure some people will try to work a deal, and some will get burned. We are making this thread available as a meeting place, but all action are the responsibilities of the two parties involved.

  • Posting referral links is not allowed.
  • Offering payment for usage of referrals, or requesting payment for referral usage, is not allowed.
  • Trading referral usage is not allowed.
  • Selling/buying of Miles/Points is not allowed.

Feel free to use this thread for

  • Sharing Credit Card related One Time use Codes
  • Sharing Lounge Access Codes
  • Sharing Bank Coupon Codes
  • Code related discussions

A Format of starting off the comment with [WANT] or [HAVE] seems like a good structure to have. So please use something like

  • [WANT] United Lounge Pass
  • [HAVE] 12 Digit Citi AA Mailer Code

Try to let people know if a code has been used, and if you have given away your code, updating your comment so it is crossed out would be valuable as well.

For Now, we're not going to be able to enforce any limits on Request for Codes. If this thread only contains "I Want", then there are no reason for people to post "I have" here. If the balance becomes a serious problem, we reserve the right to kill off this thread all together, which means any code giveaways will likely end up in the Daily Discussion thread.

Solid Advice from u/dragonflysexparade:

Just wanted to give a suggestion to folks who are willing to share codes in the code-sharing thread without asking for anything in return. Before sharing with a user, I highly suggest looking at the user's post history and total reddit karma before giving it out to the first person who responds. People can easily make alt accounts and grab a lot of shared codes for themselves without contributing much to the community. I personal think it is better to help out someone who has at least a brief history of posting here than someone with 0 reddit karma and a post history with 5 total posts.

BEFORE POSTING Referrals, please read Our Guide to Referrals, which will answer many of your questions.

If you have a referral code for Square Cash, please post it in this thread. Contest mode has been enabled, which randomizes the order of top-level comments, hides the votes, and collapses responses by default. Please do NOT make any offerings for referrals. Those can cause questions on whether someone would pay up or not, and no one would be able to track/enforce such exchanges. If you attempt to post your referrals more than once under different account names, you will be banned without warning.

Note that since Reddit Contest mode is not properly randomizing posts, so do not just pick the top link.

Alright folks, this referral thread is going to work a little differently than the rest since US Bank doesn't appear to offer a way to link directly to an application with your referral ID. Your FlexPerks referral ID is usable on any of the FlexPerks cards, so this thread is for all FlexPerks cards. There will not be individual threads for the individual cards.

Simply post your 12 digit FlexPerks referral number and nothing else

For people who want to use a referral, visit http://flexperks.com/refer and include the referrer's ID number in the application of the card you're applying to.

Note that since Reddit Contest mode is not properly randomizing posts, so do not just pick the top link.

Instructions to generate working links

DESKTOP

1. Go to the Amex Refer page

This can be done through a matter of ways. You may see a prompt on the main amex account page (if you have the old layout), or may be able to access it directly through one of the links below.

Once there, you should see a page like this, which is the new layout for Amex.

2A. Login and scroll to the bottom, where you can "Refer By Other Channels"

AmEx now lets you get a link directly rather than wait to receive an email from yourself (maybe they're catching on!). The section is called "Refer By Other Channels", and it's at the bottom of the page. There are buttons for Twitter and Facebook, but also your custom link. This will likely have part of your name in it (hence the blurring). Copy the link and open it in a new incognito window. You'll see a page that looks like this (though the layout may differ) with the title "you've been referred by a friend". If you look at the URL, you'll see that it is something like "mgmee.americanexpress.com/mgmee/XXXXX". You should click through the Apply Now button on the page. Copy submit this URL (it should start with https://cardappdacq).

2B. Login and use the email form to email yourself the link

If AmEx does not give you the opportunity to Refer By Other Channels, use the email form and wait for the email to arrive. Click on the Apply Now button in the email. It should resolve to a URL that starts with https://cardappdacq. Copy and submit this URL

AMEX MOBILE APP

This works the same as above, except you can skip directly to Step 2 when you see a Referral box under the "Membership" section of the app.

This is the Weekly Bank Account Bonus Thread. Due to the continual growth of the sub, mixing Bank account churning discussion with Credit Card discussions is becoming a bit unwieldy. Based on the Survey results in June 2017, we decided to start a Bank Churning specific thread.

Feel free to use this thread for:

  • Bank account discussions/questions
  • Bank account churning mechanisms (DD, etc)
  • Bank account Data Points (Did Bank X bonus arrive)
  • Whatever else that is bank account related

We would still encourage new Bank churning opportunities be posted as top level posts for wider visibility.
