For all of you new folks, Operation Cookie Takeover is a program sending cookies to deployed troops all over the world. Since spring of 2013, we have sent over 37,000 cookies!
We have a website where you can volunteer to send cookies, and another section where you can submit an address for deployed soldiers to receive cookies. All addresses are kept private, and only shared with the person shipping cookies to that soldier. In the past, we've been able to send approximately 8 dozen cookies to each soldier.
There's no minimum required, you can send any amount of cookies you like. You can choose any design or flavor you like. It's totally up to you! You are responsible for your own shipping costs, so keep that in mind when deciding how many you want to make.
For more information, see our website here. We also have a pretty active Facebook page where people post pictures of what they've sent, and share stories and letters they receive from soldiers. I keep everyone updated with our progress there as well.
Check it out if you want to participate! And if you have any questions at all, just let me know! :)
I’ve been baking sugar cookies with buttercream frosting since I was a kid with my families recipe! Any time I make them I always get the “you should sell these” from people who try them.
I’ve recently thought hmm, maybe I could sell them and start a little side business! 🤷🏻♀️ I see most people who do custom cookies use royal icing so I figured I would give it a try and I’m TOTALLY lost. I’ve attempted 3 batches and everyone makes it look so easy but I just can’t figure out the consistency, piping and flooding, bags vs bottles, how they get a perfectly even line, EVERYTHING!
Does anyone have any go to tips, tricks, or recipes for this newbie? Pretty much everyone has said it’s just trail and error and once you get it you’ll get it but I’m feeling like I’ll never get there. HELP!
I need to decorate some cookies tomorrow. The temp here is about 80 to 85F and pretty humid.
From what I've read, I can add extra meringue powder to help with the humidity. Is there anything else I can do to ensure success? I have no air in the location I have to decorate, and not sure if I have access to a fan.
I'm from a muslim country, and while I don't mind painting with gel colors mixed with alcohol, since I'll be selling my cookies I can't be using any because it's illegal. The painted cookies will be very detailed so I'm scared that water or lemon juice will break down the icing underneath (I haven't tried it yet). Is there anything else I can use to paint with gel colors?
I should also mention we don't get airbrush colors where I'm from so I'm sort of stuck with gel colors :/ Any help or suggestions would be truly helpful. Thanks!
