Broken Chess Board

Hi All,

I was wanting to know if it's possible to get a chess board repaired. This chess set has a lot of sentimental value as it was a family member's. However, he has passed away and I would like to see if it's even possible to repair. I believe he purchased this in Mexico many years and I think it is a onyx material.

Thank you

do you have the missing pieces?

I don't think you will be able to make that crack disapear. Consider making it a feature by going over the cracks with a bead of paint - red, blue, gold....

I'm sure you can get a cool effect, like a weld, or lava..

The only thing that comes to mind is Kintsugi. I've never tried it myself, but there are many tutorials on Youtube for it.

Kintsugi

Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery"), also known as Kintsukuroi (金繕い, "golden repair"), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.

You could fill it with epoxy? Search Google for woodworkers filling holes in wood with epoxy, it should work and hold very well.
