Nice! Fun to catch; terrifying to release.

Yeah, a bit annoying after a while too. My fly and tying material supply is too limited to go through a deciever per fish!

I actually carry cuda flies bc if the catching is slow and you catch one; odds are that's all you're going to catch for the rest of the day (at least around me in SoFL). So I just do a bunch of #4 crazy charlies (EDIT: chartreuse) because they're easy to tie and you can coat the wraps around most of the shank of the hook with cement/uv resin, so they hold together a bit better, with just a little hair or synthetic stuff for the tail to come apart.

Nice catch, deadly photo and how do you like your epic? Also what WT is it?

It's a 10. I have 4 epics (580,686,888, and this one) and it's definitely one of my favorites. Its really versatile, I can cast 8 weight lines with a big streamer just as well as the 10, it does great with sink tips, and it's nice and short so when I carry it as a second rod in a rod holster it's barely noticeable. The 888 hasn't gotten nearly as much use, its been too windy so I'm using a graphite 8.

Oh I really want to pull the trigger on an Epic. Have you put any of those together yourself or are the studio made?

I built 2 with the kits (bandit and 888) and had the 686 custom built and bought the 580 buult from a builder. I'm buying a packlight blank and building it up next. The kits are excellent...

Awesome! I would really like to buy and build one eventually, beautiful rods and I’m sure they cast like a dream.

These are kind of like sharks on the fly. So much fun, right up until you have to unhook them. I got a nasty bite on my foot from a king fish not too long ago, wont be chasing those guys anymore. Took an ER visit and a tetanus shot and an x-ray to make sure there was nothing damaged.
