  • Great obscure music that doesn't get the upvotes you think it deserves.

  • Your own playlists, mixtapes, or other good compilations you've found.

  • New releases this week and your opinions on those albums.

  • If you're an artist, share your music with us and tell us about it.

Guidelines to get the most out of these threads...

  • Always provide listening links for anything you share here.

Some music probably categorized under chill/lofi I feel like my music isn't particularly all lofi and have a hard time categorizing it but if you have any opinions/suggestions let me know thanks :) https://soundcloud.com/youkaiyoung/goodnight-to-goodmorning

Score hidden · 6 months ago

this is kind of a little too aggressive to be lofi.. and doesnt have the whole detuned sound that lofi has.. but it sounds like a chill beat though.. the melody is interesting man.. the vocal samples were cool to it added an extra edge to the beat. kool music man!

Yo! Producer/Engineer here!

Very cool artwork, and cool song name. I'd say it's actually really good, the only thing that neesd work are the hit of the kick (more oomph, and spread it more through the stereo) and the snare just doesn't hit right. Maybe double layer it and up the gain with some reverb? Make some more homie, you're good at it.

Saoriiiii - Plan (Technopop) (2014)

Saoriiiii - Money(Electro House) (2016)

Highly recommended if you enjoy Perfume, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, and other extremely girly, bubbly electronic music...and occasionally harder electro house and similar EDM such as Capsule . Her music runs the gamut from sugary sweet pop ballads that could be set to TV commercials, to music you'd hear at an underground rave in Shibuya. The first track is an example of her poppy side, while the second is one of her harder songs. These are from the same EP, "Thanks" (2016). She has several albums under her previous moniker, Saori@destiny.

Check out new video for our haunting alternative rock song: The Band LINE - "GHOSTS"

Also - have a listen to our debut album on YouTube, Spotify or other streaming services!

Cool tune, nice beat. Loved the brass and the vocalist's unique voice. The music video was well-shot with an artistic effect that fit the music - my only critique on future videos might be to add a bit more to flesh out the story being told. We get the hint of the "Ghost" within the church with the lead character, but for the most part he's alone singing and thinking the whole time... feels like more could be there for variety's sake when considering the entire video overall. But all in all great stuff (and as an aside, the vocalist has great fashion sense!).

Hey everyone! I play bass in a 3-piece acoustic rock band out of Joplin, Missouri called TownHouseFire. We recently released our second single, "Dr. Eggman" (yes, a Sonic reference) off of our upcoming debut album "Scarlett's Spell". It’s about 5 and a half minutes long, tells a great story, and REALLY picks up towards the end.

Let us know what you think!

https://youtu.be/cNlOrIfmixA

Score hidden · 6 months ago

Firstly, I love this track. Great vocals, great harmonies and cool lyrics. A couple of criticisms, well just one. The bass from either the kick drum or bass guitar is a little too massive. Not sure if you self-produced or not, or even if you're after mixing critique, but that's my only problem with the track. Everything else is performed well and sounds professional. Just this weird thing with the low end that kind of dominates the song and is a bit distracting for me. Otherwise, I love the song arrangement and performance.

That seems to be the consensus and I believe it’s the bass track. Yes, we are self-produced and have since fixed the issue and brought the volume down, but not the tone. Thank you for your input and also your kind words!

Feel free to check out our other videos and subscribe, as we will be releasing new music soon!

Hey! This is my first time doing self promo on Reddit, so I don't really know what to say hahaha... This is a song I wrote about being guided along something you have no real control over, and how you have to come to terms with that by the end or you'll be stuck fighting against it forever. Yo! Producer/Engineer here!

You have a very strong track presence, idk if its from your confidence or because its obvious you practice. I do suggest you get some vocal lessons, or do piano/guitar scaling match practice though. The fundamentals will help you get smoother note transitions and will help you hold notes cleaner. I'd say your vocal notation is your weakest link. Everything else works well imo. Good luck!

Talking to them, or directly acknowledging them with eye contact, pointing, crouching. You've got a varied sound which is good to. Keep at it yo.

I really like the instrumental, its groovy as hell but modern. The vocal is quite crisp but stands over the instrumental just a little bit too much imo and could use a little bit of low end shaving and volume lowering. I really like it. Its got a really nice feeling to it. The musical shift to a slower vibe is so tasteful. I actually really really like it. Don't give up hope, your really skilled! Upvoted because, yes.

Wonderful on a conceptual level. I would consider lowering the low end on the guitars as they punch through the speakers in a slightly unpleasant way. I'd also suggest remixing the space drum so it's heard but not so present. Another tip may be to lower the highs on that whine around 1:43. After, I suggest running your master through a stereoshaper to get a very nice surround sound feel. Good luck!

[Billy Nigma - Chain Of Memories] (https://soundcloud.com/nappy-rogers/chain-of-memories-prod-nappy-rogers)

Okay, so I made the beat and mixed this track. I love this guy's voice, so I gave the vocal a little more sheen than everything else. I'm proud of how it came out. The vocalist wields a nice persona that ranges from Dark to Goofy to even .. emotionally distressed. Yes, the track uses autotune, but he's using it tastefully (I was against it at first myself, but I grew to love the sound).
I wonder if you recognize the hook from a Gucci Mane track from back in the day.

So cool. My only problem is that there's not more! This sounds so good. Love the riffs, the screams, the raps, the singing, the beat. What's strange is that I saw the track length. 2:55 didn't seem long enough. I thought - this song is going to end short. It didn't feel like it though. There's enough variation through the song that it feels complete. Would love to hear more of this.

It is very heavy, I found the low end kind of chaotic. I also found the effect on the vocals a bit too sharp in the eq. It seems like a great song for trailers and promos though so good job!

You know, i almost never say this, but work on your adlibs. The energy on them is actually kinda weak and I found them taking away from the song. I also suggest becoming more familiar with your vocals as it comes off as your reading off a paper. Also, work on your breathing, let the air out of your nose while you rap and don't clench your nasal passages to get the air out. This will give you a more confident sound. Good luck!

Red Hot Rush DEMO

Before anyone asks, that's my service dog and that'll probably be the cover of my EP, and he's a good boy.

The main riff is something I've had for a while, inspired by John Frusciante, specifically the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik, I tried to write a solo that sounds like Frusciante played it, taking heavy inspiration from the solo from Power of Equality. The chorus part takes inspiration from If You Have To Ask and Mellowship Slinky In B Major.

The majority of the song was written in 30 minutes to complement the main riff during record, including the guitar part in the chorus and the solo.

The bass part is inspired by Geddy Lee and the song YYZ, with a little bit of Flea in there. I originally recorded it as a slap part but I didn't feel it fit the feel of the song.

The name comes from a mix of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rush, the two main inspirations.

I had a quick listen to some of the tracks off Captains of Industry. Cool songs with potential - reminds me of the stuff my friend and I used to listen to and make. What lets you down is the production, which I'm assuming is all done yourself. Your music seems to suffer from an overall lack of low end. The drums are programmed well, but don't sound too good. Please look into some alternatives, because some better drums would make your songs sound heaps better. What are you using to record? Please keep trying and keep learning because you have potential. I noticed an increase in the production fro the Captains of Industry to Consult the Stars. If you want any tips/links to resources for recording and mixing, feel free to PM me

Yo! Producer/Engineer here!

Your guitar tones lack harmony to the rest of the track. Unless you want them to intentionally stand out that way, they conflict notation wise with the synths you laid down. I also suggest mixing your drums to give them a bit more presence. You can do this using parametric EQs. Also, the track is really quiet but i'm guessing that last bits intentional. Good luck!

Hey guys, I released my first album on December and we've been getting very positive reviews so far...hope you enjoy!

Score hidden · 6 months ago

Firstly, I'll start off by saying I'm not a massive fan of this genre of metal - I really have to be in a specific mood for it. BUT, the raspy vocals on Collision and Dissolution do sound particularly brutal. The guitars are sick. I like the twang of the bass guitar (its really obvious in a good way through the guitars if thats what you were going for). Overall, this is a solid metal album dude. I must say, I prefer the more melodic sections of your songs. Did you record this all yourself? If so, it's really well produced.

Score hidden · 6 months ago

Hey, this is really cool. If I can make a suggestion on the doubled vocal tracks: unless you can get them matched perfectly in pitch and timing, don't do it. It really stood out on this track. Plus, a soft acoustic song like this doesn't need the effect that a doubled vocal track is supposed to provide (thick, layered). It would sound heaps better with the one track, a bit of EQ, compression and a slightly long reverb like the one you have on the main guitar. Nice song though. Why don't you elaborate on it? Maybe write another two verse/choruses to go after the guitar solo?
