"Must Bookmark" Reddit pages for the offseason.

  1. Please visit /u/MrMittenz fantastic 2018-19 Team Roster Tracker. This has every team's current signees and roster holes in a very easy to read format. His page is a must bookmark for the offseason.

  2. /u/Perksofthesewalls (and moderator of /r/warriors) has taken over the reins of the 2018 FAQ on Free Agency/Salary Cap. This is an excellent resource to get to know what new rules and constraints your favorite teams are operating under.

  3. /u/Kadath12 has a excellent summary of the relatively difficult to track Undrafted Free Agent List. I am pondering whether to ditch the tracking of UDFAs on this post given how well /u/Kadath12 has managed his tracker.

  4. /u/zandrickellison has five fantastic summaries of prospective under-the-radar free agents:

Quick notes

  • If you have information that I missed, please put it in the comments or PM me. I'll update ASAP. There eventually be hundreds of links in this one post, so mistakes will happen and happen often. Help keep me on my toes and I'll gift you tons of Reddit Silver in return.
  • Please do not PM the mods about the sticky or non-sticky state of this thread -- we have this handled in the background.
  • I like to keep the tracker dynamic -- if the formatting is bad on certain platforms, please let me know and I'll adjust accordingly.
  • If you are on a PC, I strongly recommend installing RES so you can sort the tables by clicking on their titles.
  • 2015 Free Agent Tracker, 2016 Free Agent Tracker, and 2017 Free Agent Tracker for your reference.
  • Don't mind the $0 for some of the salaries... I'm looking to try to fill those in with more accurate data.

People have said for a while that most of his struggles at the free-throw line were mental, and it seems that he put in a ton of work last off-season to overcome it. Feel like he goes a bit under-appreciated because the Pistons haven't had much to really make the news lately, but he deserves credit for this.

It’s re-sign, not resign. You do not want a player to resign because that means they LEFT YOUR GODDAMN TEAM. You want them to re-sign so they can STAY ON YOUR GODDAMN TEAM.

I don’t want want Kawhi Leonard to resign, I want him to re-sign.

I don’t want Serge Ibaka to re-sign, I want him to resign.

Carmelo needs to resign. Paul George re-signed.

From The Burner Podcast, Richaun Holmes' mother exposes some of her experiences with the Sixers organisiation and the radical shift that was apparent after Bryan Colangelo succeeded Sam Hinkie. She also states that she has seen Markelle Fultz's jumpshot.

Source

Other notable quotes from Dr. Lydecia Holmes:

  • “Markelle is going to be very, very surprising this season. You’re going to be very pleased with Markelle. He is going to show you something this year…on and off the court. [I have seen his jumpshot]. He’s going to be something to reckon with”

  • “When Mr. Sam Hinkie was there, Sam Hinkie took us into his office, explained some of the decisions that he made, and he welcomed Richaun with open arms. As time progressed, the organization began to change...[After Colangelo took over] I think quite a few things changed... Sam Hinkie for me was one who just took time to talk to the family and explain the direction that Philadelphia was going”

  • “When [Richaun] played with Embiid and Ben Simmons, you saw the difference. He played that one time and they did not play that way again. Maybe coach had something else in mind and he wanted something else different... I just wondered why didn't you let Richaun play longer like that”

  • “Markelle has a place in my heart. He's like a son to me. I'm going to miss his mom...I love Robert Covington...his mom...I'll miss them and I'll still be in touch with [them]”

  • “I'll tell you one person that I really appreciate and that's Elton Brand. When my son first got to the NBA, Elton Brand took him to the side and gave him some sound advice and Richaun has remembered it and even used it until now”

For a minimum of 10 games, this has only happened 11 times in NBA history(10 in modern NBA history). Lebron is responsible for 3 of them, Kareem for 3 as well, Jordan for 1.

The Sixers need a GM still, right?

  • They tried to poach Morey, who is about as close to Hinkie as you can get without being Hinkie.

  • Instant credibility with much of the fanbase.

  • Instant credibility with one of their stars (Embiid).

  • Avoids the inevitable tension between an imported GM and Brett Brown, since we all know how rare it is for a GM to be cool with a coach they didn't hire.

  • There would be little concern about Hinkie tanking the Sixers anytime soon. Let's be honest: any team poised to tank will probably hy away from the added controversy and scrutiny that hiring Hinkie would bring.

  • There are still plenty of dumb teams around that Hinkie can, shall we say, conduct fruitful trade negotiations with.

  • Hinkie's reluctance to conduct publicity probably would not be as big an issue now that so many people understand the thinking behind The Process; that said, he probably recognizes that he needs to massage the fanbase a bit more.

I think it would be a win-win for both sides to reunite and bury the hatchets.

(I'm certainly not the first person to suggest this, but I don't see any recent posts dedicated to rehiring Hinkie within the past month.)

Against Boston and Indiana, Cleveland shot 34.0% on 13.4 attempts and 34.1% on 11.7 attempts respectively on wide open threes (6+ feet of space from defender). Against Toronto they shot 45.5% on 13.8 attempts per game. So Toronto allowed around the same amount of wide open 3s, only the Cavs shot a whopping 11.4% better on them.

On open threes (4-6 feet of space) Cleveland shot 33.0% on 10.7 attempts and 33.7% on 14.9 attempts against Boston and Indiana respectively. They shot 46.3% against Toronto on 10.3 attempts per game. Toronto allowed even less open 3s than Boston and Indiana, but Cleveland just shot a way higher percentage on them.

Games 1 and 3 were decided by 1 and 2 points, so it's very likely that series would've gone 6+ games had the Cavaliers shot the same percentages on open 3s against Toronto as they did against Boston and Indiana. There's a lot of variance in basketball and Toronto just didn't get the same lucky breaks that Boston and Indiana did.

Just felt like posting this because I'm seeing a lot of people act like Toronto was this dogshit awful team that wasn't even close to as good as Boston last year because they brought us to 7 without their two best players. With perennial playoff choker DeRozan gone (harsh but true) and Kawhi in his place, I really don't think it's too outlandish to call them the preseason favorites to win the east.

The only one I have that comes to mind is when I mentioned to many friends that Oladipo would be wayyyy better than MCW out of that draft class. Was pissed when MCW won ROY, but I was definitely right on who became better.
