Brigading and our policy about Brigading (If you followed a link from somewhere else to get here, please click this)

Recently, we've had a problem with several groups from all parts of the internet sending large amounts of people here to harass our users and flood the /new queue. I'm talking about people from elsewhere on Reddit going "hey lol post that to /r/politicalhumor to see what happens" or people from iFunny spamming us, or even 4chan's /pol/. (For the record, I acually personally think that image is kind of funny, but just not more than a thousand times in one month, which is what has been happening)

We have been banning these users if they have no history in /r/politicalhumor, or if we can tell through their accounts that they instigated or were intentionally part of the brigade.

They always whine in modmail about how they didn't know they were breaking the rules etc.

So I will reiterate some things that a lot of them should already know:

1) Cross community interference is against Reddit's sitewide rules, and can get your account suspended by the admins in egregious cases.

2) If you're coming into this subreddit to intentionally harass our users, that's a Rule 6 violation anyway. If your first comment on our subreddit breaks the rules and you know it breaks the rules and you do it anyway, we will ban you.

3) If you really want to get unbanned, being a polite human being in modmail is a good way to go about it. If you tell us to kill ourselves or whine or refuse to admit that you were part of the problem, we will spam copypasta at you until we get bored and mute you. (We do make mistakes every once in a while and if you politely explain why you think it was a mistake we will take you seriously.)

On the other end of the spectrum, we recently added Rule 7: "We might remove links to to other subreddits"

Some users have pointed out that we enforce that unequally, so I'll clarify that here.

We will not allow direct links to any post in any far left or far right subreddit, period. This isn't our rule, the site admins have told us to make this rule. It isn't a bad rule though, it cuts down on a lot of drama.

Screenshots and archive links are okay though. .np is useless, so we've decided to not allow .np links.

Any other link we have a bit more discretion on, but generally we will remove any comment or post telling people to go into another community, or generally any link to a political sub at all. On the other hand, links to, say, /r/AskReddit will generally be fine. (of course, we still only will see what is reported)

Tired of seeing /r/PoliticalHumor content?

Use RES, the /all filter, or your mobile app preferences . No, being banned won't block it either.

While we're here, let us remind of you of /r/PoliticalHumor rule number 6, "Comments must be civil! No personal attacks."

If you need help understanding civility, refer to George Washington's Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior.

  • Rule Number 1: Every Action done in Company, ought to be with Some Sign of Respect, to those that are Present.

  • Rule Number 49: Use no Reproachful Language against any one neither Curse nor Revile.

  • and of course rule Number 9: Spit not in the Fire, nor Stoop low before it neither Put your Hands into the Flames to warm them, nor Set your Feet upon the Fire especially if there be meat before it.

We will not tolerate you coming in here and sticking your feet on our meat! We will ban you forever.

Also, that funny comic you saw on Twitter/FB/whatever? Five people probably already posted it.
