Our wiki has lots of good info on getting around Sydney, what to do when you visit, where to eat, and more.
Bit of background so not to think I'm saying this for rasist reasons or to discriminate, I am originally from India living in Sydney now for 20 years.
Indian people on the train especially males, understand you are living in a different country now, and not India and behave and act accordingly. The number of times I have encountered either an obnoxiously loud or completely disrespectful Indian person on a train who has no value for other people's space or privacy is too many to count. The whole train does not need to hear your conversation, and it makes it worse if you are speaking in your native tounge at the top of your voice. If you feel the need to yell at the phone for others to hear please get off the fucking train and do it in your own space, and not disturb others.
Another point I want to touch on is food and food smells. Understand that the food we eat is not appetising to everyone, especially eating pickle with your hands in the morning and jump on the train. Everyone can smell it and it is NOT pleasant. No one is saying don't eat the food but please for the love of God wash your hands properly and cleanse your clothes. No one is saying go back to your country or anything but please be respectful and understand you are living in Australia, not India.
Okay so a few days ago I told the story of my boyfriend talking to the tsunami preacher guy at Town Hall steps. My boyfriend queried him and said what would he do if the tsunami didn’t happen and promised to return and talk to the tsunami guy about it on the 21st.
A few people wanted me to update then and what went down.
So my boyfriend went twice today to look for the tsunami guy - round midday and then near 4pm And surprise surprise he wasn’t there. So a bit of a (not unexpected) anti-climax. My boyfriend has promised that if he sees him again he will engage and ask the guy to please explain ( yeah......read that in Pauline’s voice)
My train (CCN line) got stopped midway to Strathfield station (delayed here for 1 hour at least). Apparently there was a fatality at Burwood.
Edit: Police currently investigating this train. They also announced that this train was involved.
If anyone is going through something they can always contact Lifeline at 13 11 14 or use their online chat service https://www.lifeline.org.au
So city dwellers and suit brigade, can anyone confirm if the tsunami doomsdayer showed up today to explain why his god did not dispense with us all last night?
Edit: Screwed up title. Should be the day AFTER the tsunami.
Hi, I was looking at buying a hole in the ocean sometime over the summer, but was looking to get some sailing experience before that. I know its a long shot but does anyone have any ideas where to start with that? I got my boat licence and some basic (lake/harbour) experience but was looking for more offshore experience. Have looked at a few crew seeking sites but they seem to be mostly superyachts needing qualifications or older guys looking for female companions. I'm a young guy, fairly good with my hands and eager to learn.
Calling all young adults who enjoy drinking... I recently posted info about a research study investigating impulsivity and drinking patterns in young adults aged 18-25. Its a great opportunity to help us better identify young people at risk of future alcohol related harm. As a thank you for participating you can enter a draw to win 1 of 10 $50 E-Vouchers.
