I have a 12yo daughter, this was an uppercut straight to the feel berries.

Awesome

What does yours do

She's an internationally ranked eye-rolling competitor.

level 4
level 5

She got an absolute kick out of that. We're both dying laughing right now. Thanks

level 4

I laughed way too hard at this, thank you

level 5

Hey, you're welcome man. No problem at all!

level 1

I mean she has got a nice tone too, not just a regular voice.

level 2

Not the American Idol tm voice.

level 3

Good.

level 1

I guess music can be genetic. Told you so

Or her dad taught her vocal exercises and had her practice from a young age.

For every one of them, there are 500 celeb kids you've never heard of who just sit around and live off daddy's money.

Jaden Smith's new album is genuinely good for it's genre and style. Emma Roberts has proven herself to be at least a capable actor, or she wouldn't keep getting cast in things. And Dave Ghrol's daughter literally just sang a song with her dad on stage at one of his shows. How is that "being a star?"

level 4

So parents wanting the best for their children is wrong ? Or because they are famous their children have to suffer ?

You don’t think you can buy talent?? Boy how little you know.

level 7

"Here's 5 dollars, go buy some skill" -That kid that banged your mom on Xbox Live.

level 6

Nepotism: how the world has worked since life first began.

level 6

Could you actually connect that to the discussion about the little girl being talented and how it must have happened? If you wanted to complain about nepotism then it should have been a base comment, not a response to something unrelated.

level 4

Except this kid is talented and the others aren't. :P

level 4

It's normal for kids to want to follow in their parents' footsteps, and normal for parents to help their kids out with it. Whether it works out for them is a different matter.

level 2

Or generic

level 3

OOOOoooohh

level 3

Generally

level 4

What a germane thing to say.

Dude she’s a kid. Go to a band concert with 6th-7th graders and they have tempo issues too.

level 1

This would overwhelm me seeing my kid perform so well.

level 2

Just saw my 16 year old son play guitar with a band for the first time last week. It's unbelievable. I don't have a lick of talent myself.

level 3

Did your postman ever play guitar?

level 1

I mean c'mon was there any way in hell Dave Grohl's kid wasn't gonna be a badass of some sort?

level 1

She got skillz

level 1

It is in fact you who is crying. Not me. Nope.

level 1

Wow, for someone who is 12 years old she has amazing control over her voice, espcially when it comes to going from the softs to the louds. She's a name to look out for in the future.

level 1

She's talented! Also, her dad is so full of pride and joy.

level 1

This is so sweet and pure

level 1

That's how you make a father proud.

level 1

This was so nice to watch! The way he smiles at her singing is so wholesome. I love this.

level 1

Hey Dave - she definitely got The Best of You

level 2

She's no Pretender, that's for sure. She's gonna be a Breakout hit!

level 3

I'm not going to say she's a prodigy but Stranger Things Have Happened!

level 4

Learn To Fly.

level 1

She has talent.

level 1

Its most likely that she has had a lot of voice training, and most likely has a coach.

level 2

Well duh

level 2

She has natural talent, dave grohl would be dumb not to get her a voice coach. Imagine what she can do after 6 more years of improvement.

level 2

Doesn't make her any less talented.

level 1

She's in amazing hands.

level 1

She sounds good.

Happy Father's Day!

level 1

:')

level 1

Violet Grohl. Remember that name.

level 1

For being live, she is doing awesome... I hope she gets into singing. :)

level 1

Makes me wonder what her mother sounds like. I like grohl and the foo fighters but he can’t exactly sing “pretty”.

level 1

Wow. Way to go Reddit ! Can’t it just be a nice moment between father and daughter? Take away everything else.

level 1

Way better than the original.

level 1

She looks more 23 than 12

level 1

American audiences are insufferable.. let the girl sing!

level 2

Oh fuck off. The only one not enjoying it is you. Did you see the smile on her and her dads face every time the crowed went wild? We need more encouragement like that in this world, not less.

level 1

Pshh. Pitchy.

level 1

Honestly I would hate this. I paid to see that artist perform, not his or her child unless they are actually in the band.

level 2

It was a charity benefit featuring Dave Grohl, not a Foo Fighters concert.

level 2

They likely aren't cutting anything from their set to fit this in, so you're just getting extra entertainment. It's fun, lighten up a little.

level 2

We're all entitled to our opinion. It's just that yours is wrong.

people shouldn't be ashamed of being lucky enough to be born with any kind of privilege, they should be ashamed of not taking advantage of a gift.

level 6

It didn't. Why you feel the need to grandstand about the privilege of wealth on a post like this...is a question you should be asking yourself.

level 7

Did I grandstand? I merely noted it. It was just a post that made me see it in action. Didn’t mean to rile people up. I love Dave troll, too. I’m not saying he shouldn’t have done this. I was just noting it.

Then we got into a discussion on it becuase people wanted to discuss it further, or were triggered by my comment and wanted to argue.

level 8

And why did you feel the need to "note it"?

level 9

Why did you feel the need to comment?

I literally just explained why I commented. You are going on block. I don’t waste time on trolls.

level 10

Cool. You didn't explain why you felt the need to hop on your digital soap box, though. Like, there's a time and a place to discuss privilege or social justice issues. A comment thread about Dave Grohl letting his daughter sing a great rendition of an Adele song isn't one of them.

level 6

Equal opportunity exists in the western world, similar high results can be reached if you work hard enough. Complaining about (usually) non-issues seems like an indication that you've given up

level 7

Lol. Equal oppurtunity does not exist

Trump’s kids are all extremely wealthy. Are you as wealthy as them? If not, I guess you didn’t work hard enough.

level 8

Generally speaking, yeah it does. There's of course always gonna be a couple of outliers who are born into a rich situation or gain unfair advantages. That's life, but most of the time similar achievements can be reached if that's what you actively strive for in a free country.

level 2

Yeah, you're right! Some other 12 year-old could be up there singing a cover with Dave Grohl. /s

For real though, it's not as if she's a bad singer, so are you angry that this girl got singing lessons? Is it privilege that Dave Grohl paid for singing lessons for his daughter?

Who exactly is getting hurt by this?

level 3

I didn’t say anyone was harmed. I was just highlighting that having connected or powerful family can enable you to do things you wouldn’t normally be able to.

You are the one drawing crazy conclusions. Are you ok?

level 4

My point was that privilege is everywhere, so why are you angry when it doesn't negatively affect anyone else?

Of course people have different opportunities based on their situation, but don't pretend that that only applies to what you perceive as the 'connected' or 'powerful'. Should you feel bad that you have the 'privilege' of using the internet? Do you feel ashamed?

If you make ~$32,000 (USD) you are part of the 1% internationally. That's pretty close to average individual US income.

My final point, is that even when given a great teacher, learning an instrument (or in this case singing) still takes a considerable amount of effort, so it's not as if she sat back and let her dad do everything for her.

level 5

Why am I angry? I just noted this was privilege. I understood suddenly what was meant.

Why is that causing an emotional reaction in you? Does it bother you I bring it up? It’s weird you’d call my original comment “angry.” Read it again. Youre projecting maybe?

I don’t waste time with trolls. If you continue to attempt to rustle my jimmies you will be wasting your time. I’ll just block you and go back to my life.

level 6

I just noted this was privilege.

I think it's just that nobody cares, and everybody's tired of privilege olympics being thrust into every conversation without any important relevancy.

level 6

I originally interpreted your comment as disregarding the girl's work/talent, or otherwise disparaging her, so if that wasn't you're intention then that's my bad, sorry.

In that case, I agree with you, it is an example of privilege. But imo a privilege that should be celebrated, as it gave that girl the opportunity to perform, and the audience the opportunity to listen.

level 3

I was lucky enough to see Nirvana play live once. I never cared much for the Foo’s.

level 4

What does this have to do with anything?

level 5

What does this have to do with anything?

It was an opportunity to humblebrag.

level 5

What does anything have to do with anything ?

You notice she isn’t singing a Foo Fighters song...

level 3

I have zero problem with it but it is without a doubt privilege.

level 4

it is without a doubt privilege.

But who cares, ultimately? Some people are better off in life because of the balls they got squirted out of. It's like pointing to the sky and saying 'look, the sky is blue!'

Dave Grohl was at the right places at the right times, worked hard, and used his talent to be able to pass on his fortune and status to his daughter so she could have the doors opened in life to do what interests her. That's what we're looking at here. Nobody is losing out in life because Dave Grohl's daughter is on stage at his show making everyone feel good with her talent. Beating the 'privilege' drum in a situation like this is a conversational egg fart.

level 2

That all might be true. But horses are powerful majestic creatures.

level 2

I always thought he looked like randy marsh from South Park

level 2

anyone would get overshadowed by Cobain so your comment is kinda low hanging fruit

level 2

He's not known for his drumming anymore. He probably would have been a pretty successful front man regardless of his connection with Nirvana.

level 2

You realize Dave Grohl wrote and played like all the instruments on the first Foo Fighters album, right?

level 3

I did not. I'm not saying he's not talented. Just that he would've never been noticed if he wasn't part of a genre defining band.
