Connais-tu? Tes mots m'as offends car j'essaye dur et tu a dit juste "blah blah". J'espere que tu sais la raison que celle m'offends.

Are you english-speaking and want to learn? Two things I've done is I use google translate app on Chrome and read Le Monde and Wikipedia Français, you can changes its settings so when you highlight a word its translation pops-up. I also downloaded the Radio France app, the national radio, and listen when I be strollin'.

You English is great. And yes, I know it's... hard for french ears to hear praise of the president, but after a year and a half of Trump it was like sweet music to hear true western values again. Thank you again!

I was posting here the other day and was kindly received, even as I admitted right away being from /r/politics -- here again I see this at the top and all of you calling it what it plainly is. Kudos again.

I did not expect this reaction... but I did. I agree with all your points. I really think in a time when we have so few hopes, he's actually a really good one, and forcefully fighting for the preservation of Western Values. Who else is even doing that? Anyway, thanks for your opinion.

The man just came to the congress and gave a powerful speech that felt like something an American president would say. A forceful and beautiful defense of Western values. I highly, highly recommend listening to this speech, especially after the year we've gone through with Trump, Macron speaks intelligible English and is the kind of leader I think most of us here wish we had. If you want to watch from the top, here's a link for you.

I will note that congress received him extremely kindly, giving him several stand ovations.

They're too coward to pull back. It's such a pitiful self-inflicted wound. They've economically doomed generations by doing this.

If you're wondering why he's being "buddies" with Trump it's because he's desperately try to keep norms alive between US and Europe until Trump is replaced. He, I'm sure, hates Trump. But he has pushed him on Syria, the Climate Pact, and Iran - and he has tried damn hard. In the mean time he is also maintaining this friendship so that the damage is minimized when someone new comes along and we can pick up where we started.

This is what Macron is doing, at the expense of looking like Trump's bff on the world stage. We honestly owe him a debt of gratitude for this effort.

[2001] HAL wanted to tell Dave and Frank the truth about the mission at first by doctorgaylove in FanTheories

[–]2totwo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is really cool my dude, and I appreciate your deep understanding of it. I think to verify would require a rewatch for me, but one piece I needed to understand to help put your picture together (and pardon if I missed it) is, what then was the crew kept out of knowledge by HAL and GC? The Monolith? And if so, why would they be kept unaware? So as to give them one less worry on their cross-solar system travel?

Of note for me in that scene you linked is HAL's last line, and you picked up on it too:
...'course I am.

The delivery is spooky as hell. It's like grinning, self-amused that Dave made a dark joke and didn't know it, and contemplative all at once... but it comes after a full stop pause. It's also the only time before his death scene that you really notice anything like that, any double self-reflection in his intonation. I never noticed it before until you highlighted that scene, so thank you for that.

And yeah, mad respect for the love you clearly have for this movie.
