Total budget and country of purchase: I'm looking to keep the laptop under $800, preferably less.
Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. A good battery life is important to me, but the specifications are slightly more so. I don't need a 2-in-1, but if it's a better value then it's just fine.
How important is weight and thinness to you? I would definitely prefer the laptop to be light, under 5 lbs if possible. I believe thinness ends up naturally following from there.
Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows, bc software requirements.
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I find the 15.6" form factor to be too unwieldy, so smaller than that. The 11.6" form factor is almost too small, but still big enough.
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No real heavy gaming, possibly some occasional lighter CAD work. Basically, integrated graphics will probably be fine.
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I'd like a usable (ie not terrible) keyboard. Build quality is important since I hope to keep using this for a while. I don't really need any of the extra frills though.
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I will be starting school in the fall (Industrial Engineering), and need a laptop to take with me to classes. My school is asking us to install some design etc. software on the laptops we bring. I would like something portable enough that i can take it around easily, powerful and well-built enough that I won't need another one before I graduate, and with enough battery life that I don't have to fight for a seat near the outlets during lectures. I would like an SSD, although I am capable of installing my own. Besides those main factors though, anything else is extra. I would also like to save money if I can, since I'm saving up for a Switch.
Thanks in adavance!
