I got offered some deals at 10K. I think that at that point you are considered a micro influencer.

That's a good point regarding the collars that I didn't fully appreciate.

I don’t think the collar would make a difference, you can choke someone with a RNC which wraps your whole arm around the neck and it still takes somewhere above 8 seconds most of the time. Actually the best way to choke someone is to go 70-80% of your power so you can hold the choke for a longer time because it doesn’t matter how hard you choke someone it you can’t hold it for more than a few second your opponent is not going out/tapping.

As someone who is a first time traveller to Japan currently in Japan, definitely do Fushimi Inari super early in the morning. My partner and I went at 5am and we were out of there by 7am when more people started coming in - it’s not an enjoyable hike with hundreds of people stopping every two or so minutes for photos.

As for the train lines - it is confusing and the first few times will be very overwhelming but there’s lots of signs in English and Google Maps will help with navigating which lines and stations but will be very little help in terms of which platform you should be on.

The rest of your itinerary seems quite rushed, trying to go city to city in sometimes half days. I’d take the advice of some of the other commenters and skip certain places if you only plan on spending half the day in the city and half in another. There were so many things I had on my itinerary that I didn’t actually do just because we ended up seeing something that wasn’t on the list just by chance.

Same thing happened to me, I didn’t really have an itinerary but I planned one day in advance what were we doing. Every day I scheduled three places to visit but in the end we only did 2 each day because time flies by

3 points · 2 days ago

You are staying at shinjuku so you might want to check the free observatory if you want to take a look at the city, you can go there the day you arrive it’s not that energy consuming I’d recommend visiting Ginza at night instead of during the day, I think it is prettier And finally I didn’t saw Tokyo Tower in your itinerary, the view from the top deck was one of my favorite part of my trip a couple weeks ago, i kinda regretted not going up the first time I went to Japan many years ago when I saw the view. Japan is a wonderful place to explore, I think you are going to have a blast regardless of what you decide to do.

I just bought a year membership to artlist.io.

For years I used pond 5 and motionarray.com- artlist is 1000x better. It's actual music, rather than obvious stock music. It's a little costly if you're just doing it as a hobby $200/ year but it has unlimited downloads, so it's well-worth it for me.

Annnd I (shamefully) have a referral code if you are interested https://artlist.io/chuck-152744. I think you get a discount with that and it would give me an extra month.

I also recommend artlist, before that I used to look in SoundCloud etc but there were project that I hadn’t done in 6 months for lack of aprópiate music. I save a lot of time now when it comes to looking for songs

Seriously look into an iPad pro and a WD Wireless Passport Pro. Or if you want to stay away from an iPad, I guess you could get a Surface Pro with Windows. But I'm currently trying all of this with the Apple platform, even though I use an Android phone.

With this setup I can shoot videos and photos with my Sony a7iii, and when I get back to the hotel or HomeBase I can insert the SD card into the WD passport and dump all the footage and images.

For my photo editing on my iPad Pro, I use Lightroom CC as well as affinity and Snapseed. It's amazing how powerful those apps can be. For a couple bucks more per month, you can get 1 TB of cloud storage on both Adobe and iCloud. Definitely comes helpful if you are shooting a lot and need to back them up.

For video, I was introduced to the app lumafusion for $20. It actually sees the WD passport Wireless Pro and can access the footage for editing directly from there. The app itself is fantastic and I have found myself using it more for personal projects than my actual iMac at work. It is very powerful and has tons of options including multiple tracks, keyframing, masking, color correction, Luts, and lots of other features that are kind of surprising.

They make the WD passport Pro in different sizes. I purchased the 2 TB and I figure that will give me enough room for any long trips I might make or lots of footage.

I just finished a week in Sturgis South Dakota for the bike rally and shot video every single day as well as hundreds of Raw photos. I dumped to memory cards every night so I can start fresh the next day and only used about a third of the drive. I'm sure if I took a little time to go through what I had dumped a little more thoroughly, I could have deleted things not needed and freed up a little more space to make it last longer if my trip was longer. I was in a cabin in the mountains with no Wi-Fi and able to access all my footage and videos with just my iPad and that WD drive. I did a few photo edits and started putting together a couple video timelines, but once I got home I plugged my drive into my main computer and was able to access everything I captured while traveling.

Might be worth taking a look at. If you wanted to stay in the windows platform with a surface tablet, I'm sure the WD drive, as well as Lightroom and Photoshop would work but you would have to find the windows equivalent of lumafusion for video editing.

Good luck!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I can do the video in 4k in lumafusion if I wanted to. Most of the time I do 1080 because I shoot in 60 or 120 for B-roll. Originally I had tried using the Wi-Fi features of my A7 III to get photos and video to my iPad and phone, but that always give me lower resolution versions of everything. With the WD drive, I have access to Raw photos as well as original video files and either 1080 or 4K.

EDIT-2: I keep re-reading what I wrote and wanting to add more. The iPad Pro can get a little spendy and if you don't want to spend that much, I know for a fact that all of this works on my wife's new standard iPad. And with the the newest version, the apple pencil works as well. She can do the same stuff I can on my $800 iPad Pro on her $350 new iPad version. Although the processing power is a little slower, it is still very usable.

I think I got everything. Good luck!

I know you didn’t mention it and you wanted a secluded spot but the view from the top deck of the Tokyo Tower at sunset is second to fucking none man, they even use this kind of nostalgic music that actually kinda make me want to cry so I think it is a nice spot. Here is a pic I took with my iPhone as I still haven’t processed the ones that I took with the actual camera https://instagram.com/p/BlzokAmFcYe/ In person it is a hundredth times better than that pic.

Love the ankle suggestion. Any tips on implementation in gi? Feel like I'd be more worried about guillotine rather than armbar because of the friction.

Original Poster2 points · 7 days ago

The escape works pretty much the same in the gi I just did it no gi because that’s what we were training that day. I think the hand on the ankle is the main take away from the video because it prevents him from following you. Do you mean Guillotine when you go to your knees ?

Yeah, to the knees - I feel like I'd have much more flexibility in terms of margin of error in no gi because in gi there'd just be so much ti grab onto and friction as you go to clench behind the legs, and any space is prime setup for getting choked out

Original Poster1 point · 7 days ago

Well from this position is hard to get guillotined because you end up facing in the same direction as your opponent, just make sure to bring the shoulder behind his leg so you can push him forward. I also think that it is harder to do a Guillotine in the gi than in no gi because of the friction of the gi although it still is doable

I was in Tokyo last month, my friend had a Pasmo card which he got from a friend who also was recently in Japan, he couldn’t use it anywhere, maybe he is too dumb, I actually thought that he was scammed haha. Also why do you decided to spend nights at different hotels? I find it to time consuming to have to change hotels with the luggage etc so I would like to here the pros that you find, for example shibuya is not to far from shinjuku. I’ll be going back next month and last time I didn’t bought the subway pass, do they work for all the subway lines ? I might get it this time. Good luck on your trip, I hope your grandson has an awesome time

Did your friend charge the card at a machine? If they got it from a friend; the previous friend probably used up all of the available balance. You just go to a machine and put more money onto the card. It's not a pass as in you get free unlimited rides anywhere. You actually have to pay for what you use. Put ¥2,000 on the card until you use that balance up on fares etc. and replenish as needed.

They're useable pretty much everywhere. I've only know of one place that that doesn't accept IC cards PASMO/Suica/etc.

Yeah, he actually wanted to charge the card with 90% of the money he had but I advised him no to do so, he did charge it with like 3,000. We asked at a few shops but they didn’t accept payment with it, I think he was able to pay for the subway tho.

If you only want the gym to break even so you can keep training with your students you should be fine but if you want it to be an actual business it is not going to be that easy. Bjj is not a popular sport in Mexico so don’t expect to have a lot of students, at least in the beginning.

This might be a really common thing to do when in Japan but the view from the Tokyo Tower is amazing, if you can afford to pay for the top deck it is worth it a 100% if not the main deck is also really nice or you can get something similar for free at the shinjuku observatory. Everything I did in Tokyo was amazing tho, such a great country.

I have the same exact one! 😄 I was hoping to pull either this or SSJ3 Goku.
