Because reasonable proponents of stricter immigration enforcement understands that the immigrants haven't stolen money from the fire department. It's a ridiculous and very politicized statement.

They sort of did in the 1800:eds. Here in Sweden people got part of their wages paid in strong liquor.

We were able to turn things around though, while Finland and Russia failed to do so.

However, I believe that our current safeguards, i.e. Systembolaget, is reasonably effective. I think the passivity that marijuana may induce is a different kind of problem.

So what are the downsides really of having sytembolgaet also supply the weed? Even if we go with the very debatable statement that THC is just as bad as alcohol, then what's the harm? If we go with the more supported claim that alcohol is worse both in terms of personal health and costs to society over time, then any time people smoke weed over drinking is a gain. That's not even bringing up the medical side of the drug, which I have yet to see any reasonable arguments against.

Sweden isn't really a beacon of success to look toward in terms of drug enforcement, as we have some of the worst statistics in Europe. I think we are even on top of drug related deaths per capita as of late.

Huh, I never even implied anything about muslims (my best friend is muslim, many other friends are muslims, I co-live with a muslim), what's that even about? I've never even heard about any child trafficking ring, this is literally the first time I heard that. Trump did a major lot of shit, but he also lowered taxes and did other good stuff. Democrats intended to do a lot of shit and never intended to lower taxes - where's the good stuff? (I'm simplifying, obviously)

I've been reading articles. Can you recommend some?

but he also lowered taxes and did other good stuff.

Ask yourself why you make that claim. What is it based on? Who do you think wins and who loses on Trump's tax plan? What are the corporations doing with the extra money? Spending it on salaries that would help lift the for every day worse off middle and lower social classes? I'm seeing a hell of a lot more stock buybacks than salary bumps. And for what? How many billion did it add to the deficit again?

On the first ever visit of my Swedish boyfriend to Texas, I took him to his first rodeo at the Texas state fair. Unfortunately for him, I inaccurately remembered "calf fries" being strips of steak battered and fried. We got a basket of them, the lady handing them over enthusiastically exclaiming "yall are lucky, this is the last batch!", and dug in. Once we were almost finished, he commented on the strange texture. I paused and then Googled "calf fries", and broke the news to him. Five years later he still gives me shit about it.

... I like them. 😕

Kinda the pot calling the kettle black with a outlook like that. ‘America’ isn’t what you see in the news every day. Most of us are just normal citizens trying to enjoy life and experience new things.

And if you rent a car, you may not drive it into certain countries (e.g., Italy, Romania) without special permission.

What is the reason for this? To prevent the roads from clogging up with tourists?

Edit: I can't read, disregard. =)

He is misinformed. Italy is a full member of the Schengen area and have no such restrictions. I have personally driven in and out of Italy over 20 times and never been checked by either customs or border agents.

Romania however is the process of joining, but is not yet a member. Therefore a visa in a Schengen country might or apply there.

Entering any of the 26 Schengen nations on a vasitors visa will give you access to all of the other countries in the treaty for as long as that visa is valid, Italy included.

No, not misinformed. I rented a car, and the company said I could not drive it into Italy specifically. Which is why I specifically said, "if you rent a car" in my previous comment. You must not be very good at reading comprehension in English.

Probably an insurance thing. The Italians are kinda (in)famous for their driving.

That is the basic meaning of the quote. But altering what people believe happened in the past is very different from questioning or changing our current beliefs and values.

The only parallel I can draw between the quote and what's going on now is how persistent propaganda can move the goal posts in general; be it about history, immigration or taxes.

I don’t pirate anymore but If im being honest there were some games I likely would have bought that I pirated instead. Now that prices have decreased so dramatically I buy wayyy too many games to ever play.

Piracy is definitely a multifaceted subject

Where is this decrease you are talking about? On steam they still want me to pay €60 for any triple A. Even if it's a 10 hour single player.

Example? I doubt a single player game goes for 60 whatever your currency is, they usually go for less than that, at the most 40.

The other week I wanted to get jurassic world evolution after seeing my GF played it. I wouldn't even count that as a triple A compared to many of the huge titles out there, but they wanted €56 or something for it. Considering the content avaliable, plus no support for mods there is no way I'm willing to spend that. €30, sure, but for close to €60 I expect more than a glorified remake of zoo tycoon with less content, borderline game breaking bugs and no community mods. Maybe in a couple of months they'll drop the price and sort out the worst problems with the game.

I have no knowledge about this at all, but how do you mean that they’re unrelated but caused by the same thing?

4 points · 1 month ago

The OP is caused by rolling shutter. Either a physical "wall" that quickly slides open and then shut to capture the light, meaning a small amount of time passes between the top and bottom (or left and right) on the pic. Or due to a digital capture that still catches data row by row, causing the same effect.

The effect you get filming a helicopter rotor, a car tire or a computer screen is due to the video camera consisting of still frames taken (most often) 24 times per second. Depending on how that syncs up with the rotor, tire, ceiling fan or whatever it can look like it's either standing still, slowly rolling forward or even rolling backwards. The flickering when filming screens are due to the high likelihood of the still pic catching the screen in the middle of updating a frame. Most monitors displays pictures faster than 24 fps, often at 60 fps.

So much hate for France. Must be jealous they have the best squad in the world and they're proving it.

Edit: they're not even playing to potential and winning. They've won all tournament (on the harder side of the bracket) long and people have hated on them every single match because they "play shit football" that wins games.

Also when discussing social democracies like Scandinavian countries lefties always seem to forget that these countries are running at deficits. Meaning the system is unsustainable. It might take a hundred years for the money to run out but one day the money WILL run out. They also neglect to mention that these “socialist-democratic” countries are only possible because of the obscene earnings obtained through capitalistic practices.

This is just straight up misinformed. The budget deficit in the Scandinavian countries goes up and down like any other economy. In Sweden we had some bad deficit the couple of years after the financial crisis, but are on surplus the last two or three years back. While this year the US deficit is estimated around $800 billion. We have been basically social democrats since the thirties, you seriously think we have run a constant deficit since then, while keeping the national dept around 40% of gdp? I don't even...

They also neglect to mention that these “socialist-democratic” countries are only possible because of the obscene earnings obtained through capitalistic practices.

Why should it have to be. Social democrats aren't socialists. Here we call it a "mixed economy" with some areas run by the government, while most markets are free. Granted, more and more markets has been released from government control the past 20 years, like telecommunications and drug stores. Alcohol for example is still fully under government monopoly though.

So I do have a LISBOA stamp, the date is clear enough (although the customs person stamped it right on top of a recent stamp to Mexico 🤷‍♂️) but it doesn’t mention Schengen.

If I go to Croatia, will I get another stamp, thus “pausing” my 90 day Schengen day usage until I return to Portugal?

2 points · 1 month ago

It should look something like this but Portugals version of it. If so that is the Schengen stamp.

Your issue might be if you got an order to not leave Portugal, and you get a Schengen entry stamp they will see that on your trip out, which might cause issues coming back. Or that the place of entry outside Portugal won't let you back in to Schengen as the extension is only valid in Portugal.

Original Poster1 point · 1 month ago

That image is similar to what I got! Yeah, I’m also concerned about that (re entry). However, all I have is an email from Portuguese visa control that I have an appointment in February to apply for a visa extension and since this time is too far in the future I’m automatically granted the maximum extension - not a mandate so to speak.

Ideally, I’m hoping to leave Schengen for 2-3 weeks in August (within the 90 schengen days), return to Portugal (where I have a 3 month extension) and still have some flexibility to travel in the Schengen zone (an extra 2-3 weeks) while I’m living in Portugal.

1 point · 1 month ago

Yeah I'm no expert by any means, just a fairly well traveled European. Traveling within Schengen shouldn't be any issue unless you get in trouble with the authorities wherever you are. My biggest concern would be re-entry into Schengen if your initial visa is expired, as they probably wont recognize your Portuguese extension. One possible solution is to make sure you re-enter Schengen through Portugal, unless the extension has any limitations on leaving and re-entering. If you leave Schengen and try to re-enter after already using up the days for your initial visa there is seriously a big risk they simply will deny you until 180 days after first entry.
