Wait that can happen?

Yeah many old mechanical diesels can run in "reverse". Usually happens when a driver nearly stalls it, clutches in at the last second, and the compression in the cylinders starts the engine back up in the wrong direction.

Yeah but what if there are some small branches growing into the yard? A Stihl 880 Magnum would be the perfect thing to handle that situation.

My brother bought one of those saws, with the 59" bar.

It's completely ridiculous, deafeningly loud, and very awesome.

Mostly for chainsaw milling. He has a very similar setup.

Most truck transmissions are also synchronized. You can in fact float the gears in a car transmission, it's just a lot harder to do because of the much wider operational RPM range of the engine and the larger difference in gear ratios. Your goal with an 18 speed transmission like the one in the video is to try and keep the engine in its "power band" [RPM range with greatest torque or power output depending on your desired result]. In a car, your power band might span across 1200-2500 RPMs say from 3500 to 5000 RPM on the tachometer. In a truck, your power band is far more likely to be say 1200 to 1500 on the tachometer, so only spanning 400 RPM in range.

My car for example starts piling the torque on early at around 1500 RPM. I maintain usable torque up to about 3500 where the horsepower becomes more noticeable and carries me through to 4500 RPM where the engine basically gives up. My redline is only at 5000 as I drive a diesel, but the story is similar in other cars. I can still totally float gears from first all the way through 6th.

Most truck transmissions are also synchronized.

Pickups are light-duty passenger vehicles and have synchronized transmissions.

Most heavy commercial truck transmissions in NA are not synchronized. You cannot clutch in and select any gear while moving. You must manually match road speed / engine rpm / gear selection.

We try to be consistent but we get a lot of submissions so some posts slip through. If you see a post that breaks the rules (especially the text rule), reporting it is very helpful.

This seems so obvious. Although it would be very expensive to change out or modify all the trailers in the US, it needs to and should happen.

Lol, trucking is easily one of the most heavily regulated industries in North America. And these regulations are rigorously enforced by frequent inspections.
