I know this is not best quality, but I was impressed by how well we could see the moon through this bushnell telescope we bought in a yard sale for 30$CAD. My set up is very newbie/amateur so please go easy on me! Feedback is welcome.

I don't think it's something that should stop you from adopting the dog if it's a dog that matches your lifestyle. Maybe do some research on protein malabsorption and see if you are able to provide the care it requires. If so, go for it. Keep in mind that it's also perfectly fine to feel like you're not the right person for the dog. It's a responsible decision.

For me it's like feeling overwhelming emotions and losing control over them. I know it sounds dramatic said like that but during a meltdown, it feels like the end of the world for me. I sometimes hurt myself to get some kind of relief. I mostly need to ride it out. Usually if i go in bed with my heavy blanket it goes away eventually. Like you said, everything gets too much so hiding helps. Having my dog with me is calming. Meltdowns suck and i wish no one had to experience them :(

Long story short: My dog died this month at 15 years old. He lived with the cats we presently have for a year and a half without any incidents. They got used to him very quickly and he didnt pay them much attention.

I adopted this new dog this week. He is a 6 yo pug X beagle. He is the sweetest dog and i already love him very much. In his profile, it said he could easily live along with cats, dogs and kids. However, when he came in the house for the first time and saw the cats, he lost it and started chasing them...totally out of control. It was mostly my mistake i shouldve kept him on a leash...but since i was told he was very chill and used to cats, i didn't even think about it.

Now every time he sees the cats he freaks out and cries to go to them. He doesnt sleep at night because when he hears them he scratches my bedroom door to get out...i have to keep him in the basement if i leave the house...the cats are traumatized they stopped eating and wont come out of their hiding spots. Considering i don't have money for a dog trainer and can't supervise 24/7...what are my options? I really wasn't expecting to deal with this and I want both the cats and the dog to be ok and give them the best i can. It would break my heart having to take him back to the shelter. I am his 3rd family already but i feel lost at the moment. I feel like i have to make a decision quick because if i was to take him back to his foster family where he was used to, it wouldnt give him time to get too attached to me...i don't know what to do.

UPDATE I had no other choice but call a professional because it is getting impossible to manage. The trainer offered a 90 mins evaluation session with a discount on following sessions if i choose to commit to that. I'm going to use his advice to make the appropriate decision for the cats and the dog. Thank you all for the tip!

I have a 12 year old cat and a 1 year old ACD pup. We trained the dog to respect the cats space and they get along. Occasional herding incident but if I say leave it my pup will immediately stop.

Work on recall and leave it. Commands with your pup. For leave it have him on leash and toss a treat on the ground and have one in your hand. Tell him to leave the one on the ground and give him the one in your hand. When he looks at you he gets treats. This is a really great command to practice on walks too.

For interactions, just monitor them. Don’t allow them together unsupervised. Make sure the cats have escape spots. We have a closet only our cat can go in that has a bed and her litter box. For the love of god make sure the dog can’t get at the litter box.

Make sure to give your cats lots of love and attention too so they aren’t jealous. I give my cat salmon wet food as a treat.

Some dogs have a high prey drive and aren’t a good fit with cats but you can definitely try and work on it.

Thank you for the advice. I caught the dog a couple times in the little box so we put a barrier where only the cats can access it and put food and water on higher levels when they usually hang out. The only problem is behavioural. It's good to get advice for cats too so thank you for that.

I think you're right that you should either give him back ASAP or commit to working on it for the long term. The long term, in this case, is months to years.

Incompatibility with existing pets is a perfectly valid reason for return. It is also possible his old owner had a cat that he was used to, but new cats combined with a couple house changes have put him over the edge.

If you don't want to give him back, set up a rotation system right now where your cats and the dog are never in the same room. You would need to start teaching him self-control and calm behavior at whatever level of stimulation he can handle. Self-control exercises might be something like asking for a sit and rewarding him for several seconds of sitting still. At first it might be just that he can handle hearing the cats two rooms away. Then one room away. Graduate to visual contact on the other side of a barrier.

The cats should start eating again and come out of hiding if they have a room for a few days that the dog never enters, like a bedroom.

Thank you so much for your advice. We already started a rotation system so the cats can eat calmly and take care of business in their litter box. I want to try and think with my head as much as a possible rather than with my heart...I am ready to commit to working on his behaviour, but I am afraid it's taking a too high risk and will not benefit the cats. I am still debating. Reading everyone's advice is a good help. The dog is on a "trying period" with me of 2 weeks. The foster home will then do a follow up...I will see if i can implement those things and get improvement.

You are very talented! Do you have an online store or something? AC plush are so hard to find. They mostly have the popular ones if any...

He was dealing with congestive heart failure, had syncopes frequently...but last night I noticed he had a lot of trouble breathing, his lips and tongues were blue so I took him to the emergency vet knowing i wouldn't come back with him, couldn't let him suffer anymore. Before January 1st he was in such good shape...and it went downhill from there. It was the hardest decision I've ever had to make. I don't know how I'll get through it. This dog was part of me. My bed felt empty, everything feels empty...I just hopes he knew it was for the best. I could see in his eyes he was like...asking for help.

I love you Fri. Rest in peace and wait for me up there.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my beagle to CHF back in August. I'd been managing it for about 18 months, and had brought him back from several exacerbations, but the last time, no matter how much I adjusted his medications (I'm a non-practicing vet), he just couldn't rebound. His last day I took him into an objective clinic for Xrays, oxygen, and a second opinion, and he walked into the clinic, and into the back, alert and wagging his tail, and we had a plan to have a cardiologist assess him the next day.

Two hours later they called and I rushed back in there. He'd totally decompensated and there was nothing we could do. It was his time and he knew it and was letting us know. I firmly believe he held on until I was no longer responsible for his care.

You did the right thing by taking your guy in and getting htelp for him, even if it wasn't the kind of help you wanted. He knew how much you love him and I firmly believe at some level he was grateful for you for letting him go like you did.

There are a lot of us out here who know how you feel. Please take care of yourself. RIP, Fri.

Thank you so much. I'm sorry for your loss. It must've been really tough. For me, I kinda knew I wasn't going back home with my dog. I could've decided to get him more treatment, but the vet told me he could have a heart attack anytime...It just felt horrible to make that decision to put him to sleep because i feel like i took his life...but i didn't want him to suffer and I wanted to be there for him when he died, not die alone from a heart attack when i'm away.

Anyways, thank you for your words. I really appreciate it.

I am so sorry. I has to put my 14-year-old dog down yesterday evening too and even though I knew it was the right thing to do, it was brutal. My house feels so empty without her. I am send you a hug across the internet.

I'm so sorry...I know what you mean by empty. Big hugs back and thank you for the support. It feels good to know I am not the only one going through this (i just wish none of us would have to)

I live in Qc Canada and it's not unusual for the temperature to drop down to -30C...but why do roads remain wet instead of freezing? I know some places we get like "black ice" (if my translation from french is correct?) but mostly it's just wet. Just been asking myself this since I was a kid. Thanks!

Age: 15

Sex/Neuter status: M/Neutered

Breed: Pomeranian X Cocker

Body weight: 18 lbs

History: Healthy dog throughout his life. Had back problems but was treated for them. Mostly deaf now.

What happened: My dog had a seizure last night. He started breathing weirdly, he sat down, fell back and started convulsing and defecating. This lasted 10 seconds. He then got up and went to his bed and recovered quickly...maybe 5 mins. He was back to his normal self for the rest of the night although I noticed his breathing was faster than usual.

I took him to the vet first thing in the morning. The vet told me he was in good shape for his age and nothing was wrong with him. She didn't do any blood test as he had some recently and since it was his first seizure, she said to wait before doing any major tests.

I am now back home and he is acting weirdly. He seems nervous, he is still breathing fast and he wanders in the house. His walking is wobbly. He never did that before. He did eat his breakfast as usual. I'm very worried and want to know if his behaviour is normal for post seizure (it hasn't been 24hrs). I know he might have another one today from stress. Is there anything I can do?

UPDATE I went back to the vet to get some blood tests and scans. Turns out everything is fine. No cancer, nothing abnormal with his liver or kidneys...but he does have a heart murmur which he had for a while. Her conclusion was that the seizures are caused because his heart is not pumping blood properly (since his seizures happened after physical effort). She gave me some Vetmedin. He could have more seizures and die from it since his heart might stop, but he is not suffering and is in good shape for his age. Another probability (less likely) was that he might have a brain tumor but the brain scans were too expensive for me so I went for the first option since it made sense to me. Hope this can help someone.

Skype just forced an update on my Mac and now I can't control the call volume independently from my system volume...this is very frustrating as I sometimes need to do other things while in a call and the call volume is very loud. Anyone knows a way around this? It used to be super easy on the older version: alt+command and arrow key...doesn't work anymore.

I haven't been able to find a way around it. When I saw the new volume slider, I thought - finally, a volume slider! Then I used it.... It just changes the system volume! Completely useless.

I have not played yet but if i understand, there are some in game purchases? I'm scared that the further you go in the game, the more "real" money you'll have to spend...i really would've preferred to pay 5$ once for the app and play freely. Otherwise, it looks awesome from the pictures!!

Upgraded a couple days ago and it works perfectly fine! I have not noticed the performance degrading or battery life being shorter. The update was pretty quick too compared to my ipad.
