2016 was the best imo too

I like this year's the most personally. It'll be interesting what they do next year for (hopefully) EU Worlds.

Even worse, when Musk wrote on Twitter that Unsworth must be a paedophile because he hasn't sued Musk for his disgusting insults yet, Musk already knew that Unsworth and his lawyer were preparing a lawsuit. This is from the 6th of August, while Musk wrote his tweet on the 28th. Really weird why he makes such obvious lies and thinks he can get away with it.

If we’re not already punishing the people that are stealing our tech, then we are pretty damn stupid.

China steals IP, period.

I mean, so does the US and probably every other major power.

I wouldn't even add the "for a crossover" bit. I'd say it's just a good looking vehicle in general.

False. It takes about 5 seconds to look up who invented and manufactured Zyklon B, and you couldn't even do that before spreading this lie? It was Degesch, it's literally on the label.

Not just that. It's honestly a bit bonkers how to this day, after the Cold War having been over for decades, the moon landing is still being used for propaganda despite the USSR not even existing anymore.

First satellite in orbit? Russian. Sputnik.

First person in space? Yuri Gagarin. A Russian.

First animal in space? Laika. A Russian dog, launched by Russia.

First spacewalk? Alexey Leonov, Russian.

First lunar rover? Russian.

First space station? Russian.

First planetary flyby (Venus)? Performed by Russia.

And yet the past 50 years has been an alchemy of nationalism, revisionist history, goal-post moving, burn-cream applying "but muh real space race was for duh moooooon" etc...

Failed at something? Just lie about it. Rewrite the history textbooks, lie in schools, omit important details.

Because let's be real, the subtext to the space race was capitalism vs communism. That's what swept everyone up, that's what drew the public interest. It was boiled down and refined into a 9 year long sports event, and American politics still reflects that now. Red vs blue, left vs right. There are no draws. Everything is refined, boiled down, easily packaged, plain and largely simple.

It was USSR then and pre Putin era. Apples and oranges

There's been numerous examples since then. The US for example sanctioned India for wanting to develop their own cryogenic engines. Russia helped India do it despite US sanctions.

Good direction, thank you for that. Even though I don't like Musk a bit (but have nothing against EVs), I don't think this is the right place for news related only to Musk and not Tesla. And on the other hand, there seems a very specific group of people who are always very quickly in posts about Tesla and trying to deflect criticism or push a positive narrative. I started tagging those people and it turned out that the vast majority of extreme pro-Tesla comments were made by a very small group.

It's good to see this is getting cut down on.

This tone deaf comment made to Prime Minister Abe is not surprising, President Trump brought up the war of 1812 as a justification for labeling Canada a national security threat in a testy phone call with Prime Minister Trudeau earlier this year.[1]

Crazy grandpa at it again

Early this morning President Trump was threatening Google for not showing enough "good stories" about him[2] and an adult actress claimed he only lasted a few minutes.[3] This Presidency is like a reality TV show, but I'm not entertained.

1) National Post - 'Didn't you guys burn down the White House?' Trump uses War of 1812 to justify Canada as security threat

2) The Independent - Google is failing to show enough good stories and could be prosecuted for making me look bad, says President in latest attack on media

3) NY Daily News - Stormy Daniels claims Donald Trump lasted 'two minutes' in bed

Tabloid source since the Presidency is like a reality TV show. Sigh...

and an adult actress claimed he only lasted a few minutes

That might be unusual for a porn star but is completely normal for your average person. I think men only last 5 minutes or so on average. Anything beyond 20 minutes are extreme outliers, while over 20% last a few seconds to 3 minutes. It's actually lower than most people seem to think.

People within the USA have wanted this for literal decades.

Well apparently not enough to actually lower your military spending. Nobody is forcing the US to spend so much on their military.

Yeah, there's this idea going around that the reason the US wants Europe to have a larger military is so they'll buy more equipment from the US. They'll probably buy a little more, but most of their equipment is already made in Europe, to the best of my knowledge. It's a bit of a conspiracy theory.

Not at all a conspiracy theory: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-02-13/u-s-sounds-alarm-over-eu-push-for-deeper-defense-cooperation

U.S. Sounds Alarm Over EU Push for Deeper Defense Cooperation

In a bid to bolster Europe’s military strength, European governments have come up with 17 projects that mark the first use of EU-treaty provisions on enhanced security and defense cooperation among member countries. The project is dubbed PESCO.

The U.S. warned the European Union about discriminating against American companies as the bloc’s national governments press ahead with plans for more defense cooperation, highlighting potential friction in trans-Atlantic relations.

Something else nobody here is pointing out is the timezone. If Worlds runs in the afternoon/evening KR time like it did in 2014, that's like a 3am start in LA. Not only will they be casting with no crowd around, the entire city will be sleeping around them at that time. Building hype really won't be easy.

Also, imagine what message this is sending to the potential orgs applying for EU franchising. Do you really want to invest €8m in a game that can't even afford to fly some casters to the largest annual event?

While this news is obviously a bad sign, I want people not to overreact on this. Ask yourself: Do you remember Play-Ins being a remote broadcast last year ? Some probably do and some don't, and as a pretty dedicated viewer I honestly needed to get reminded by Vedius of that fact.

It is still the same teams (strengthwise), the same casters, the same broadcast quality. Unless we get told otherwise I would assume we still have interviewers and translators on-site.

Do you remember Play-Ins being a remote broadcast last year ?

Yeah, it was one of the reasons why I didn't enjoy the play-ins as much. The casters being with the crowd is a big part of the atmosphere imo.

I highly doubt that the electric Porsches will brick like the Teslas do. Porsche has a much more reliability-first approach than Tesla does, so I honestly wouldn't be afraid to go for the Taycan.

the ecosystem of end user devices, specialised chips etc doesnt make sense for a GB solution. Its laughable and they know it.

Why not? Cars like the Honda Urban EV or the electric VW minibus have definitely caused lots of waves already. Sure, it'll be more when you can finally buy them, but I've definitely seen much more discussion about electric cars in the mainstream media in the past few weeks than before those new models have been announced.

Copy-pasting my comment from last this this bs was posted, since people apparently plan on posting this every day now:

What a sensationalist article. Hail cannons are used by tons of companies and even farmers themselves in order to protect crops from hail. Those "weather-altering cannons" have been in use since the late 19th century. And you know it's bullshit because "Gerardo Perez, the leader of the group of farmers in the area, told the news agency AFP that 'the sky literally clears and it simply doesn’t rain.'"

This is such a transparent bs accusation. Not only has there been little scientific evidence that hail cannons do actually achieve their intended effect covering in a meaningful area, there has been zero scientific evidence that they actually prevent rain. Their entire purpose is literally to stop hail from forming and instead make it fall down as rain.

Yup, just like that whole 2008 "recession" thing.

The US government fined Deutsche, Credit Suisse, and Barclays for billions, the only guy who went to jail for it wasn't even from a US bank, but a Swiss one.

Screw over the world economy, and then use your own lack of market regulation as a justification for bleeding out the foreign competition, US protectionism at its finest.

Not just that, but the US government is actually woking closely with US corporations to steal technology from foreign competitors as well. Here's an example:

Enercon, one of the world's leading manufacturers of wind energy equipment, was hoping for a major breakthrough when it developed a new, cheap method of harnessing wind power. But when the German firm applied for a patent in the US, it was horrified to discover that its rivals, Kenethech, had already submitted an almost identical application.

Some months later, a former NSA agent admitted that the organisation had secretly intercepted Enercon's data communications and monitored conference calls. The NSA passed all the information it gleaned on to Kenetech. The US makes no secret of the fact that its intelligence agencies are engaged in industrial espionage with the aim of helping US firms to compete with foreign rivals.

https://www.irishtimes.com/business/electronic-spies-torture-german-firms-1.174447

Meanwhile, German intelligence services are forbidden by law to engage in industrial espionage which makes it very hard for German companies to fight back. I'm honestly surprised that Germany hasn't shut down every single US station in their country yet, especially those like the Consolidated Intelligence Center in Wiesbaden that are specifically for intelligence gathering.

Did you read your article beyond the headline? The accusations lack evidence and the technology has been used for decades.

The witch hunt is reaching silly levels to be honest.

Because they have. And even if Trump and the Republicans gets tossed out, for the next couple of generations there will always be the question "but what if the Americans go bananas again?" Whenever an international agreement or organization is being set up.

Well, that's been the case before Trump already, just not this extreme.
