[Discussions] - Why aren't Silph Road Regional Subreddits aren't used that much? by trainerElite in TheSilphRoad

This subreddit is good for news and discussion.

Local ones are good for planning raids.

Regional ones are good for neither.

Is it difficult to make an incremental game? by carl123678 in incremental_games

[–]Mason11987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not gatekeeping.

There's a difference between saying what is or is not "making a game", and saying who is or is not able to make a game.

Eli5: The difference between fractional reserve banking and a Ponzi scheme? by asaltandbuttering in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mason11987[M] [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you're saying I'm "flustered". Is this your normal approach when people advise you how to participate in a community effectively, to pretend they're emotional for no reason? I'd recommend not projecting emotions onto people that you know nothing about.

There's a common problem in ELI5 of people posting threads of the form "Why is my argument wrong", and when presented with evidence they try to argue their position. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that you're not participating in this. Several people in this thread have pointed out how you're mistaken, and it seems like you're not accepting you're wrong about your points in spite of not having thought about this topic much, only reasserting your claims. As the sidebar says, "Don't post to argue a point of view".

Have you considered, as a person who's not thought about the topic much and needed a simplified explanation because of their lack of understanding that maybe you're the one who's mistaken, and you don't really know what those terms mean?

As I said, I'd recommend asking questions instead of saying how others are wrong, since you are seeking to understand a topic that you don't understand, right?

With fractional reserve banking, the banks actually lend out many times more money than you deposit and therefore can not pay their debts if all loans are called.

Was your intention to post here in order to argue a point of view, or post here in order to have something explained to you that you don't understand? If you don't understand something I'd recommend asking questions instead of saying how others are wrong.

Even if you're right (and I'm not sure that's conclusive) just being able to get great curves using AR+ is better than not being able to get them without it, which was the case for me with my iphone x.

Decades ago scientists were saying that there was Global Cooling. I remember "trust us the science is settled".

This is a myth. Largely perpetuated by people who want others to believe this so they could argue global warming isn't true:

https://www.skepticalscience.com/What-1970s-science-said-about-global-cooling.html

Papers saying global warming will be happening were far more common during that time as one's arguing for global cooling. What you likely remember are media stories, and statements that if we don't limit aerosoles, it'll lead to cooling. Those statements were true, it would have if we hadn't, but we did limit them drastically.

Here's the source article from the american meteorological society:

You said:

If a pokemon is going to flee, the ball always just shakes once. It doesn't matter if it is a raid boss or a wild pokemon.

He said he saw it shake twice before fleeing.

The amount of times he's seen it doesn't matter at all, you're just wrong.

ELI5: how people are able to sell homes for more than what they paid for and how this causes a neighborhood to go up in property value by DickHz in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mason11987 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The difference between houses and cars is that generally if you buy a house, it's going to stay where it was. This means that the price of the house is heavily dependent on the environment it's located in. Since that environment changes a lot (new parks or stores open, violent gangs move in, schools improve, schools shut down etc.) the price can change. Also, there are ultimately only X houses located within a certain area of desirable features. If you want to live there, and so do 10 other people, but only one guy is selling his house, the price goes up. This is supply and demand.

Since you can't insert more land within a certain distance that ultimately becomes the biggest selling point. It's not about what the house is, it's where it is.

Houses aren't also being driven around. Generally they just sit and exist. Sure there are maintenance issues, but on the whole houses just don't have the sorts of damage accumulate that a car does due to being designed to withstand elements, not move you around a lot.

Also, sometimes new houses are risky houses. They may be in a new area that may end up really nice in 5-10 years, but may end up crappy, depending on how much work builders put in. An ideal new house is one built in an otherwise already desirable area, but of course those are rare.

So houses do depreciate, new houses are worth more than older houses all other things equal due to those issues, but other things generally overcome those factors so age isn't a great way to determine how price will change.

ELI5: The earth moves at a 1000mph, but where is it going? by Irishsurfer93 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mason11987 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The earth isn't facing the opposite direction. The earth doesn't face any direction. It's a sphere with people on it that look at the stars outwards. As long as "away from the center of the earth" at night in your location points in generally the same direction, you'll see generally the same stars. If we're on the other side of the sun (Summer vs Winter) we do see constellations differently because away from the center of the earth at your location is pointing in a very different direction due to 180 nights of it changing just slightly.

ELI5: Why do you sneeze when you fantasize? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mason11987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the article offers a two-three sentence cause. If you'd like to have some of that simplified feel free to ask about that specifically, like "what does erectile tissue refer to", or "ELI5: automatic nervous system".

ELI5: Why do you sneeze when you fantasize? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mason11987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which people?

It ultimately is still a personal question. I think you can see the difference between "how do peanut allergies work" and "why does a weird thing happen to me".

ELI5: Why do you sneeze when you fantasize? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mason11987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why that was removed too.

This is the only thread of yours that was removed from ELi5.

The question is definitely no loaded, and is not an opinion. The fact that I have experienced it personally only was the motivation to do the original research, which ended up too technical for me.

The question is loaded, it assumes a premise that isn't obviously true. That premise is "you sneeze when you fantasize". As it's not obviously true that people sneeze when they fantasize, this is a loaded question.

if you meant to ask "why do I sneeze when I fantasize" than you're asking a personal question that does not belong in ELI5.

ELI5 isn't the place to argue that something is common.

If you think your post isn't loaded please reply here, don't make a new thread. ELI5 isn't about asking about your personal experiences either.

If you post to /r/answers, I'd provide context like a quote or link to a story. In general when people say "13% reported" they mean "13% reported through official channels" (like crime reporting)
