Precisely! And as much as it may suck, perceptions are hard to change. The initial impression is important. It's hard to overcome a poor first impression

ahh gotcha. Yeah I just wanted to make sure it didn't seem like I was saying if you disagreed with how they were doing the redesign that you're crazy. I think everyone can agree that especially the back end needs some TLC

I laugh/snorted at the blinking geocities reference...

Hey, I had a bitching GeoCities page and a kick ass myspace profile back in the day!

But the shiny new feature thing was something that I've run into myself, and kind of realized that was what was bugging me about the redesign. So, since I don't let things go all that well. I wrote a wall of text haha

That wasn't the point of my post though.

I want to talk about the approach being taken to actually follow through on that facelift and rewrite/cleanup.

As I said in the post, there are numerous other submissions talking about the short comings of the current redesign.

That's still a re-write. You are just disagreeing with how they are rewriting it. My point in the post that you were responding too isn't agreeing that they necessarily should start with a blank slate. It is just saying that a code overhaul needs to be done. Especially on the back end.

but I do not at all sympathize with a rewrite the way they are doing it

But do you disagree with them needing to rewrite it? It's grown so much and just looking at the old code base on github, it's pretty obvious it does need to be rewritten.

I think part of why a lot of people, my self included, are very wary of the redesign is precisely for those reasons and Reddit's past projects. New modmail is a prime example. It was supposed to be this huge new thing, built on a new tech stack so they could provide features and updates quickly. Well it rolled out with some half assed new features, lacking a ton of desired features, and missing old nice features. What, 2 years later now and it literally hasn't been updated since. That doesn't give me warm and fuzzies

It is absolutely the government trying to infringe on free speech. It just may not be a provable violation of the first amendment. Trump absolutely wanted to limit the player's speech and even went as far as to say they should be fired.

Arguing semantics just distracts from the actual issue of the President of the United States attempting to influence private companies to limit speech that he doesn't like.. That's a huge issue.

The NFL owners were clearly worried about the negative press from the president..

Just read the article linked in the OP's article about the player and owners meeting that had been previously held.

It's pretty clear he did have an impact on the decision. That is the President of the United States pressuring a private company to do something which if a public institution did, it would be considered in violation of the first amendment.

Legal technicalities aside, let's call it it what it is.. Bullshit..

If it can be shown that POTUS threatened withholding certain tax incentives from the NFL, or did something else within his official purview to force this, then you might have a point. But he didn't.

You mean, exactly like he did? Literally said Congress should remove their tax status because they allow players to protest during the anthem.
