450 lb-ft is good for most things you should run into: Lug nuts, axle nuts, etc.

Honda crank pulley bolts, no ;(

Good thing I drive a jeep! Haha in all seriousness I’m thinking this is going to be the winner of what I’ve been looking at and will be what I build all of my upcoming tools purchases around.

Yea, it should be fine.

I use DeWalt, myself, but have nothing against any of the other brands.

Large scale solutions are not easy mainly because the locations where the real problems come is not the West it’s in developing nations where they can’t invest in the infrasttructure straight away

That's why we are supposed to be building out genIV nuclear reactors; cheap enough that developing nations can afford them and scalable enough to actually solve the problem.

No one in the government or "environmental" groups wants to hear that, though.

Yeh 100% nuclear is the way and will be the future until fusion but unfortunately the media and other scaremongering groups have a done a good enough job of scaring people about stuff they don’t understand. To most people nuclear energy is some dark magic that should be left alone. We could have been much further along the nuclear energy pipeline if there hadn’t been so much opposition IMO

We had the IFR 25 years ago; a functional prototype ready to scale up and begin operation.

Can't melt down, can't explode, can't make weapons, no long-lived waste, eats old nuclear waste as fuel, 99x as efficient as current reactors; simple and cheap.

Luckily, the Russians and the Chinese are building an equivalent design.

then why is it in areas where the police refused to patrol after the rise of BLM did the locals BEG THE POLICE TO RETURN?

Because people are stupid?

Around here, the cops are most of the crime.

i doubt that's true its just your anecdote

the cops are the only thing holding black communities together

the cops are the only thing holding black communities together

The cops are the ones destroying those communities, first by bringing drugs in, then by arresting and imprisoning people for using those drugs.

This is well-documented and happening all the time, all over the country.

Just some thoughts on modern car features that I actively dislike and wish you could either remove/disable or just not get in the first place:

-TPMS

-ABS

-Auto-dimming rear-view mirrors

-Automatically locking doors

What do you hate?

I dislike how prices get jacked up with stuff I don’t need or want, like rain sensing windshield wipers and other gimmicky things like that. But one thing I don’t wish was gone is ABS, why do you see that as pointless?

I didn't say it was pointless, I just wish that I could get a car without it because it sucks when it breaks.

Oh, that makes more sense. It it frustrating how a vehicle without ABS is road legal, but if your car had ABS and it broke, it isn’t road legal.

There are actually ways around that, but ABS is just such a pain to work on, especially for an independent mechanic.

You know, I used to think that the term, "Jewish Nazi" was a contradiction in terms.

Just goes to show how wrong a person can be.

You probably don't realize how accurate your statement is. Zionist Jews helped the Nazis, because they pushed their cause.

Sick fucks, I know.

I do, actually; I've done the reading, and you are right.

The Nazis just wanted the Jews out of Europe, and so did the Zionists, so they actually had common cause.

They're not lazy or apathetic, they just learned that some things are not important earlier than we did.

  1. Bad knee, needs replacement.

  2. Blind in one eye.

  3. Right hand was broken, not set right, 2 fingers don't really work.

"Just go the %!$@ing speed limit already!"

1/2", but 250 lb-ft is not enough. I've got a 450 lb-ft impact that hasn't been enough, occasionally (stupid Honda crank pulley bolts).

You've never been mudding, have you?

Neither have most of the morons who "squat" their trucks and have obnoxious pipes.

I've been off roading. I have a 4x4. I see no reason to bury it so deeply that I'd need loud pipes to signal for help. Not to mention, it's always safer with a friend who can pull you out.

Yea, but you need the power to run the big wheels so you get stuck less often in the first place, and for that you need a good exhaust.

Oh GoG, nostalgia flashback, I've seen this on a cartoon before I just can't remember which, it was in the early 90s when they were making cartoons based on Hollywood movies, like Ace Ventura and Men In Black and Jumanji

I can't say for sure but want to say it was Ace. (Or perhaps a late Ren & Stumpy episode it feels like it would fit there too) Loud car comes up to a stoplight revving, main scrawny char gets out of own car, knocks on his window, big muscleman muscle car guy rolls it down, and he's like "RRRRRRrrrrr ggrrrr grrrr Rarararrrerrrr GHERRRRRRRUHUHUH VRRRR VRRR YEAH THAT'S PRETTY ANNOYING NOW ISN'T IT" then the big dude rolls his window back up reeeeal slow and drives away speeding once the light turned green.

Here's how it works in real life, though:

Yesterday, I'm on lunch and I need to go to the bank, the post office, and hopefully still have time to grab a fast food burger and still make it back to work on time.

Road work has one lane closed and a woman in an SUV is driving 10mph under the speed limit in front of me. We both turn onto another road with no work being done, so I go into the left lane to pass and she swerves over to cut me off; I hit the brakes, jink right, gun it and beep my horn on the way past, hitting a grand total of maybe 8mph over the limit (under 50 in a 40 zone).

Naturally, she has now gunned it to catch up to me, going at least 55, and starts yelling out the window past her teenage daughter about how I don't need to be driving so fast.

Her daughter had some new vocabulary words to look up last night :)

"Our entire field is bad at what we do, and if you rely on us, everyone will die."

GM's LS series and Ford Modular engines are both amazing examples of engineering. The Chevy 305 and Ford 351/400M were dogs. Special mention for the Ford Cleveland block, which was king until the Triton.

For imports, almost anything from Honda will be bulletproof; the abuse we put old B-series motors through was stupid, and an H22 swapped into a 92-96 Civic was the poor man's Mustang killer. The Mazda B engine was amazing, too, as was their V6 K engine; their new skyactive engines are, in my opinion, the best use of modern technology currently produced.

Who are these morons?

The opioid crisis is the direct result of over-prescription of narcotics resulting in easy street availability, along with more addictive painkillers like oxycontin becoming more common.

The Shawshank Redemption, because it doesn't have Ed Norton and his insane imaginary friend in it.... although that would be @%!$ing awesome.

In what sense? Is this your daily driver, or just a fun car?

Body work can wait; that had better be most of the cost.

Clutch, battery and belts cannot wait, unless you like breaking down. That being said, batteries are cheaper elsewhere (go to a parts store and ask them to price match a wal-mart battery) and the belts you should be able to do yourself if you have any mechanical knowledge, at all.

Oil leaks are weird; unless it is major or you have a nice driveway that you don't want to get oil on, I wouldn't worry about it.

So what happened? How did your marriage cost you all that?

She went crazy, ran up huge debts on credit, decided she wanted another kid so quit taking her birth control without telling me, then left me, made up crazy accusations which cost me my career and almost landed me in prison several times (i.e. last year), lawyers, bankruptcy.

I actually finally managed to get on at Wal-Mart, so my life is improving.

If you are an "actual fucking economist," then you know as well as I do that you can find an "actual fucking economist" who will tell you anything that you want to hear.

Oh, yes, absolutely.

As for the rest of your comments-

I AM AN ACTUAL FUCKING ECONOMIST.

I already know this topic better than you ever will. There are jackasses in the world who's opinions aren't worth shit. Feel free to name more...

And, dumbass- Marx thought communism would work. Never has, never will. You don't have to understand theory to see that. You just have to have some basic knowledge of the world around you.

You do have to be a ridiculously ignorant jackass not to see how dumb Marx was though.

I already know this topic better than you ever will

All evidence to the contrary.

dumbass- Marx thought communism would work.

And dipshit Arnold Harberger thought that unbridled capitalism would work; it didn't.

Never has, never will.

Tell Viet Nam. And China. And... what the fuck are you talking about?

You don't have to understand theory to see that. You just have to have some basic knowledge of the world around you.

I know more history than you ever will, etc. More current events, too, apparently.

The problem is that you have the contrived prediction fallacy to deal with; the West intentionally undermined any even vaguely communist regime that it could, and it STILL didn't break them.

You do have to be a ridiculously ignorant jackass not to see how dumb Marx was though.

You have to be the stupidest person on Earth to not recognize his brilliance, even if you disagree with him.

I don't agree with Milton Friedman, either, but I respect his point of view, and when it came to actual policy, he was basically a Keynesian for different reasons!

Again, you seem to be one of those snobbish academics who drank the koolaid while absorbing the faux-intellectual argument to support an idiotic philosophy without ever actually critically examining the theory.

Come back with some actual facts instead of schoolyard taunts next time.

And that's what's wrong with society. People think Karl Marx (actual ignorant jackass) is worth reading, but an Actual fucking economist tells you so and it's all "this is where I stopped taking you seriously"...

Actual fucking economist

If you are an "actual fucking economist," then you know as well as I do that you can find an "actual fucking economist" who will tell you anything that you want to hear.

I can infer from your comments that you subscribe to the neoclassical Chicago School of economic thought, which means that you are either ignorant of the history or you dishonestly hope that I am. I hesitate to guess which because it also means that you haven't actually read either Hayek or Friedman, you've just absorbed the mythology that has grown up around them while ignoring the entire point of both of their works, to say nothing of the brutal dictatorship that resulted from the only actual implementation of said economic theory.

In the meantime, you are disparaging Karl Marx, who, whatever your politics, you must admit that you cannot even have a conversation about the economics of industrialized societies without using the vocabulary and concepts that he developed.

For myself, I simply accept the historical evidence that our economy has been abused to present the illusion of success while in fact relying upon massive deficits to fund primarily military operations ever since we abandoned Keynesian economics, and fundamentally changed the mission of the Federal Reserve, to wit to maintain an artificially high unemployment rate in order to drive down wages, under Nixon.

Oh, and in case you missed it: Never assume that the random person you meet isn't as well educated as you are.

Have a nice day.

Quite an assumption there. Surely after a few short comments you know the breadth of news sources I frequent.
Your credentials don't mean anything if you don't have reputable sources. Following sources funded by the Koch brothers and run by ex-Enron employees demolishes any credentials you can put forth.

I'll tell you what:

Yesterday, Facebook suspended the page of the Venezuelan news organization TeleSur, without giving a reason.

Can you find a single mainstream news source that covered the incident?

  1. You can betray yourself.

  2. You don't have to love yourself.

To answer your 3 points:

1) I don't have renters work on the house, I'm talking about people who previously owned the houses doing Mickey mouse jobs.

2) if having a tool a long time is what determines the best tool then everyone who upvoted you should only buy Ridgid because their tools will run forever with their Lifetime Service Agreement.

3) while I agree that there are diamonds in the cheap tool categories (ie ryobi airstrike nailers, harbor freight grinders, craftsman rebrands cobras) more often than not there is no comparison between a cheap miter saw and a bosch glide. I know that you can align fences and blades to be more precise but the DIYers I mentioned in my original post are not the type to do this.

Oh; then you bought badly maintained houses from idiots :p

There is a reasonable argument there, although it is somewhat countered by the fact that tool design improves; I can't remember if I listed that here or in another comment in the thread.

That's a rather particular example, though, isn't it? I guess I'm saying that I think that it is more of an exception to the rule than the other way around, i.e. I can think of an awful lot of "diamonds in the cheap tool categories."

"Things I will not buy at Harbor Freight: Parachutes...."

My dad has been gaslighting me my entire life; intentionally giving me bad advice, browbeating me into accepting it, then berating me for things going wrong.
