Pretty easy to see how they go the name.
The cars go super sonic. They do flips so they are acrobatic. They are rocket powered. And they battle each other on the pitch.
Obviously, it was a shit title, but it was never a game to take seriously, so the title made sense.
I remember the exact time and the weeks or maybe months leading up to coming up with the perfect name... Never have I ever heard so many crazy potential names of a game ( some of the zaniest ones coming from yours truly of course haha ). My personal favorite unpopular name that still sticks in my head that someone came up with was Tires of Ire, which led to Tires of Angry...
I guess /u/Psyonix_Thomas would be the best person for this, although anyone can chime in.
How does bug fixing work on a cross-platform game like this? I know the PS4/Xbox one are more like PCs than previous generations, but do you have 2 separate builds of the game that you have to compile and run each time you want to test something? I see on the start up screen that it this game was, I'm assuming, made in Unreal Engine. Being unfamiliar with the development cycle in UE, is it just one build/code base and UE takes care of making it cross platform?
You do have to create a build per platform that you want to release on and they need to be built off of the same code so they can be compatible with each other. There's a lot of script code and engine code that is cross platform for UE3, but everything online related is special cased and there's a bunch of other special cased code per platform as well. When you build for PS4, it makes sure to use generic code + PS4 code and when you build for PC it uses generic code + PC code. The dedicated servers themselves don't have any platform specific code in them, which is what allows us to do cross platform.
Enjoy the game. Just have some questions.
I'll end the questions there. Thanks for the game, it's been almost 400 hours of intense fun and rage. Just what everyone needs in a game.
In each update we do, we are making updates and improvements to performance.
As for the servers, we have learned a lot about dedicated servers during the Rocket League launch period. We've found out that some hosting providers are better than others, some solutions that we initially had in place needed to be updated and overall we have improved the lag situation for servers dramatically since launch. Don't worry though, we are aware of the complaints from players about less than desirable playing conditions on certain servers and we are taking steps to address it. The good thing though is this is a minority of the player base and these issues don't impact all players.
Some of the things that we've done to address the issue:
- Figure out what symptoms the servers show when they are performing poorly ( This has been incredibly difficult to determine, but we are getting more and more accurate information as we move forward )
- Automated reporting of servers that are showing low quality signals
- Manually fixing servers as we discover that they are performing poorly.
The next step in our process that we are working on right now is to automate the "fixing" process so we can resolve them even faster than we are now and make sure it impacts an even smaller percentage of players.

This is literally accurate, made us all laugh in a stressful time, so thank you :-). We were around 10-45% capacity for most of the day today so we were literally opening and closing the gate to help us figure out what was going wrong today. Finally working better now though! We hope it holds strong so we can finally get some sleep...
We love you guys and will keeping working hard to make sure things get more and more stable as we move on!
If i deleted my saved data files from the beta will i still get rewards?
Yes, it's based off your PSN ID, so if you ever played the Beta online then you will get one
So it won't be free at midnight?
Looks like in New Zealand at least it took about an hour before it went Free. Not sure if it will be consistent in other countries.
we have all been surprised for the worse :(
It's free now, looks like it just took them a little while to get it set up in the Store
Thank you for your support! It's a separate download from the beta. Not 100% sure about the file size yet. I can't comment on our deal with Sony, sorry.
You have mastered the butt slide!
When you go online you should find people at a similar skill level to yourself through matchmaking. But either way I would recommend at least the tutorials and a couple of bot matches to get you started.
I would highly recommend ZiedSonnix's Rocket League School video http://youtu.be/_B-lG3jA2bI
You sly devils. Brilliant strategy & clever/cryptic wording to keep us from guessing what was coming.
Servers... prepare yourselves!
Guess I'll just have to make sure I buy a PC version, the soundtrack, the theme, merchandise, and all DLC now. :)
We are telling the servers to prepare themselves too. I hope they're listening!
From my understanding it's an offline mode. You can play split screen with people and progress through the season.
I'm hoping share play is enabled for this game though (ps4) because then you can invite friends to play that way and you'll be able to go through season mode with online friends.
This is the basic idea and yes to Shareplay.
5th time trying. Was it randomized?
We've found that the invites for some people are going to their spam folder, so it's likely that you missed the invite before?
Finally had an hour to try it, having examens and all. But just wanted to say that it is a really great game and that you guys should sign up for a code!
Also, I can do a bug report on the website too right? Would like to help make the game as good as possible, but do not have the time right now. :)
Thanks for the experience! Coop was a blast!
You can submit bug reports on our forums or from the Bug report prompt in game
Hello there Psyonix! Huge fan of the original PS3 game and couldn't get enough of this one either. I can't wait for the next beta to start!
A couple of questions:
Are you going to have a demo for the full game? I probably would have skipped the first game if it didn't have a demo and I feel it's hard to sell a game on just "It's soccer with cars!" to my friends, when I could just show it to them x)
Do the points you get during a game only serve towards the score or are they used for something more, say like towards unlocking customization options? I ask because I think I saw you got points for winning but that aren't added to your score so I was wondering about that.
Will you add a menu that explains how you earn each accolade during a game? Most are straight-forward, but some like "Playmaker", I wonder exactly what are the requirements.
Also, as one of the people who held the ball up on the Rocket GAF montage... We demand that next time you keep the servers up if someone holds it up again, deal? :)
1) You have a good point and we'll take this into consideration. The real answer is that it depends on how a few things fall in line as we are getting closer to release.
2) You get points for every stat that you earn in the game ( that's what the pop ups are in the upper right hand of the screen - the stat ticker ). These will contribute to your XP, which you can earn levels and titles with.
3) Haha! We'll keep that in mind :) In the final product you won't have to worry about the servers going down!
If you could make another sports game, what sport would you choose, and what would the twist be?
First Person Robot Basketball, anyone?
I am personally a huge fan of the original NFL Blitz games and would love to make a game like that.
I lost my ass off and still had a great time.
I hope you can find it!
Can anyone confirm if we'll still have split-screen modes as it predecessor had? Was up to 4 (2vs2).
Yes definitely, both online & offline
Also the sequel to this game called Rocket League will be coming to PS4 in the Spring 2015.
Its unfortunate that the website ran out of keys, I watched the gameplay of the game on youtube and thought it was pretty cool, decided to grab myself a key and it ran out. :/
We have restocked the website with additional keys, so you can try again with your original link in the email!
no keys :(
More keys have been added, so feel free to try again!
They ran out of keys, sadly.
There's an X button in the top right of the end game screen
If you hold down shift you can roll with A and D. Is that what you are talking about?
We have hopefully resolved this in the update today. We'll be monitoring it during the North America playtest this evening.
