The law is wrong here, it's not the first time.

The offense she commited, according to the law, is Sexual Assault. Which carries the same penalties as Rape in the UK.

That the sentencing is particularly lenient in this case is the real issue, not what they call the act.

Basically, qgyh2 was an old, old, old, powermod who squatted a load of domains. Not actually an insult, he was a mod before mods were mods. But then reddit had a bit of September fever and we lost him.

BEP was mod extraordinaire for a few years until he had serious studying and life to deal with. Now he has like 31 cats and runs the NHS. Or something.

Skuld is the same, but listens to METAL and is a pretty cool guy. Unless you are a poser.

Squatly I don't know so much, but was usually cool, but was also ages ago so probably has life to deal with.

DEADB33F I know I have modded with, and was usually a decent dude from what I remember. I just never understood his name.

I kinda know 3 of them. Can ask for them to promote a few more active people as mods?

Thanks, and indeed I will keep reading! Love the universe so far but I still don’t really understand. So they are humans but not like earth humans and that simply does not get explained at all?

Looking forward to the short story :)

One of the most common meta-"species" in the galaxy is panhuman. Think Star Trek alien; basically human body plan of bisymetric body plan of two arms, legs, head on top with similar facial structure and carbon/DNA based.

It's not fully explained, but can be either assumed to be a highly likely form of convergent evolution, panspermia, or some ancient fiddling of a long sublimed Involved civilization.

Knowing the type of galaxy Banks wrote about, the latter option carries a lot of weight.

Not spoke to Deimorz for years, but if I had any advice it would be to offer something compelling to the random netizen that is lacking elsewhere. That's the only thing that has ever seeded kernels of communities in my view, but is also something quite elusive to discover.

There have been many sites, some quite well designed, that have hoped to take over from facebook (and I wish they would). However it's hard to plant that seed. Wish all those involved the best of luck.

Feel that. New career with 50+hr weeks, including a six month period with near 70 hour weeks, are what killed my reddit time back in the day.

Hard to have a life and still put time into this stuff. Considering the appreciation you get ;)

Again, hope it goes well.

How much whelm were you anticipating?

I can't imagine another actor being able to do this character justice.

Talking about Ryan Reynolds, not Beckham...

I'd love to see all the science guys (Stark, Shuri, and Banner) put their heads together to try and "rebuild" Vision without the Mind Stone

Don't forget Rocket!

IIRC there's a scene in the comics with Stark and Rocket working together and Rocket gets frustrated with Stark, calling him a primitive ape.

He had far too much sex appeal for just one gender.

What sort of Scooby-Doo rogue's gallery is this?

Ugh. This pisses me off. He's not trying to build anything like the Culture, he's a capitalist through and through, and he's just nicking the names to sound cool. He's talked about the Culture a couple of times in interviews, and he really doesn't 'get it' apart from 'cool ships doing cool shit in space'. If Banks were alive he'd be making some pretty cutting comments.

Yes, he's a capitalist. But I'd prefer more like him than not.

Despite being capitalist, he's not simply following the route of easy money. From-scratch space and automobile transport companies are not famous for being successful money makers. He is following a dream of providing easy access to space and fossil fuel-free cars. Both aspirations are admirable.

It's still a weird appropriation of something he doesn't stand for whether or not it's admirable.

Easy access to space - for multi-millionaires. Fossil fuel-free cars for the very rich. Doesn't it grate even the slightest?

Without air travel for the very rich in the 40's, we'd have no mass air travel now. There are no shortcuts here.

You gotta be realistic about these things. Do I wish we live within a system that doesn't produce Bill Gates and Elon Musk? Yes.

Am I glad that billionaires like the above are using their assets for the betterment of mankind instead of purely selfish motives? Hell yes.

Patriotic Purely 100% Defensive Force, Honest

That should definitely be a ship name. Tweeting it right now for the appropriate channels.

Abominator class, naturally.

"The largest type of GSV" described in the books was the System class GSV Empiricist. Operated by a 7-mind grouping, it consisted of a number of hulls within one immense field enclosure.

The smallest marque of warship would (I think) be the Thug-class LOU.

I can't conceive a way that it could outmanoeuvre and destroy seven Minds possessing control over that amount of resources, no matter the tactical high ground a surprise attack would offer.

Although I would love to read some fan-fic of one being able to achieve this.

To be fair a bit on both sides, you never know what people can do or are doing. I personally know a woman who was shot in the head by her patient (at-home caregiver) for no reason other than the person was senile. She managed to survive being shot without too many issues (lots of physical therapy)... but the point still stands.

Now, does this excuse the officer in my opinion? No. But remember, life isn't safe.

Edit: Just actually read through the article. The cops get called being told that someone has a gun. The old man was coming toward police even with orders to stop. That's the time people get shot when there was a report of a gun and refusal to listen, whether the refusal is due to anger, ignorance, or illness. I have a feeling the officer will not be charged and i have an issue that people are so upset, but ignoring the fact that all the info police had was "a man has a gun" and he was refusing to cooperate.

Maybe there's a issue with the society or culture if this seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to you.

You can move your chair closer and farther away from the screen though.
