What do we think of Farke after the first year?

I'm trying to stay optimistic, and I think he's been good overall. I've seen glimmers of better days ahead during his tenure, thinking especially of the strong showing in the FA cup, it's just hard to focus on them in the midst of shitshows like the final match of the season. I think it will take another season to really know for sure how Farke will fare.

I'm saving my thoughts overall, cos I know it's easy to get antsy when you don't get that instant Lambert-effect we saw in L1.

However, this comment on the FA Cup run, and our performance against Wolves, made me think he will do very well one day in the top tier. For us, it's more a case of whether he can adapt to the various more "physical" styles of the Championship.

We're all amateurs, my friend. I lost my first streak of 1,732 days by just plain forgetting to run one day.

:O Wow, I bet that was a rough realization.

Not so much, I wrote a little summary of why that was so when I started this new streak in this thread last year -

The BBC has an MMA podcast? Is it any good?

7 points · 4 months ago - I like it - Dan Hardy and Nick Peet are extremely knowledgable. OJ plays the Goldberg of the podcast - asks some naive questions at times, but they serve a purpose in educating people who haven't been into MMA for a long time.

It's also a lot shorter than the other weekly MMA podcasts - less of a commitment.

Bloody hell they should promote this more, I use iPlayer for loads of radio shows and had never heard of this

Only place I’ve seen it promoted is now and again on the bbc sport index page. I understand it gets some push on the bbc three pages, but I’m not ordinarily their audience.

Hmm is it new? I rarely see anything on BBC about MMA, I wander if they're finally realising how big it's gotten

Been going a while, I think i started listening at the back end of last year.

MMA has been a BBC Three thing with promotion from Sport for quite some time now, this podcast is the first think to break on into the Radio Five Live space. They definitely know how big it is.

Next weekend’s UFC Liverpool is being broadcast on the radio, and while that won’t necessarily get many existing fans excited - it’s a huge step for legitimacy and hitting potential new markets. (I don’t have any sort of say in these decisions, btw, merely an internal observer)

Netflix can still fund the show after season 3 is done. They've done so in the past. Black Mirror got cancelled after season 2, but Netflix funded seasons 3 and 4.

Given all the outrage as a result of this cancellation and it's popularity on Netflix, i'd be shocked if Netflix didn't fund season 4 onward.

However, Channel 4 immediately responded, saying it wasn't true their network had passed on the show and had "offered to recommission Black Mirror." Whatever the true sequence of events, the deal has sent a chill across the European TV industry, worried that deep-pocketed online companies could poach their hit shows.

Fair enough, but the time it was a grey area. I was going off my memory from 5 years ago.

That wasnt the main point i was trying to make. My point is Netflix can easily choose to continue The Expanse, and they’d be stupid not to.

Absolutely. Was more clarifying for myself, because could only remember BM having an upward trajectory.

Apologies for the unintentional “well actually...”

I'm a huge fan of poppy songs with recognisable lead lines. In addition to Poker Face, I really enjoy Shiny Happy People by REM.

I stopped feeling guilty about it all a while back though - fun is fun.

A "corny cuntbucket" definitely warrants a trip to the doctors.

This is crazy useful, thanks - I was looking to resurrect my shitty TX-1000 with a broken control box (just waiting on the DB15 breakout board to arrive), and this has given me some confidence that it is as simple as it was described to me.

You have any plans to upgrade enclosure at any point / switch to a soldered DB15, now you have confirmation it functions?

And are you using the powered hub as described? What sort of length does it give you from screen?

Overview Photo Tutorial of how we built it. We enjoyed it so much that we plan to make a stand up arcade cabinet to play classic 2D fighters soon.

This is amazing, and very timely. I have an old tx-1000 dance pad, which I've kept in a shed for years, but when I got out last week found the control box was all smashed up and connectors bent out of shape.

I decided that this is an opportunity to build an adapter/control box for stepmania and hook it up to my mac. I have very naïvely ordered a zero-delay USB encoder, a multimeter, and a DB15 breakout board - having ZERO hardware experience and doing a little bit of reading (most of my "knowledge" comes from this heavily illustrated, but completely broken forum post), with the intention of learning more about electronics hacking/stick-building in the interim to shield me from inevitably blowing everything up while I wait for the breakout box to arrive.

Do you have more information on what was involved in the control box build? or where I should read up on this stuff to better understand what I'm doing here? - I'm currently pursuing very rudimentary "electronics for dummies"-style resources, but figure there must be something out there that gives more "hows" and "whys" around putting together this type of project.

Regardless, this is fantastic, comprehensive, and inspiring - how well does the pad play?

They are TX-1000s, generic Chinese metal pads that sometimes get rebranded.

Yup - I have that exact pad, mine had a ps2 control box. Never rigged it to PC myself, but a converter should do the job - let us know how you get on.

Day 316. Record mileage week last week, 69.5m - had I known it was .5, I'd have extended my long run yesterday to take it to a flat 70.

By Thursday, I need to decide whether I'm running Liverpool marathon in May - that's when fees increase. It's looking like a solid yes though - I'm already up to 17 mile long runs. Would be my first race since 2015.

4 points · 7 months ago

Just in from day 309. Did just over 57 miles, which is decent given I had 2 days at 1m minimum.

This morning's run into work should have been awful - kid up sick through the night and did 16 miles yesterday, but I felt really good this morning. Not fast, but comfortable. Run home, not so much :D

Body feels good to do a marathon in the near future. I should probably sign up for one.

Day 225 for me. Last week ran 51 miles, which is my first full week since my knee screwed up at the beginning of October.

Recovery has mostly been “don’t run so much”.

Friday’s run home was preceded by drinking 6 pints of beer, that run wasn’t too bad. The morning run on Saturday however, wasn’t fun at all.

(My flair represents my first streak, really need to figure that thing out)

Do you go drinking in your running clothes, or run home in street clothes? To adjust your streak flair, just write a comment with only the text "!flair 225".

I've done both. But this was a quick pint after work that turned into a bit of a "session", so I was kitted out for a run.

And thanks, will give it a go.

Is this still going? May I have one?

As good as this run has been we have to remember for the most part it was against weaker opponents. And the three games we did win were all only 1-0. Still 11/15 points is nothing to scoff at.

EDIT: The next three games are going to be tough, we'd be doing well to come away with more than 4 points.

I guess it depends on your ambitions and where you place us, but I see the last 3 league games as giving us 7 great points. All three teams are above us for good reason.

Millwall, Villa, Sunderland, and Burton, however, leave us few excuses.

I uhhhh, I'm not sure I get it. This another content grab?

  1. Day 85 and did 48 miles last week

  2. Slight ache on outside of foot, always seem to get it when wearing in new shoes.

  3. Eased off the mileage as the week went on.

  4. Drunken run home on Thursday was interrupted by a wild pikachu suddenly appearing. Some helpful guy thought I was looking for somewhere on a map, to which I had to explain I'm just some Pokémon dickhead. He laughed and continued his revelry.

I'll be honest, I just wanted to play with the new stuff.
