Man Touki’s fastball has some wicked movement

Nootie311 2 points

One 93-95 with comeback on it and a 96-98 4-seem. Too much plate on that first batter but he looked good. Like he could get major league hitters out some time this season.

Wright impressed me in that situation.

amlaminack 3 points

Totally agree. Touki’s stuff is on a major league level today. His command seemed a little loose but it easily could’ve been jitters. Wright was very impressive too. The poise to come into that situation on a stage where every important eye is watching you and get out completely unscathed is huge. That cool head could be his fast track ticket to Sun Trust Park

It’s getting harder to deny the Phillies are real. I still think we can compete this year though and it’s nice to only be a half game back at the break

SG8970 5 points

Yup.

The Braves and Phillies' offenses lately keep getting closer and worse. They're also having their worse month right next to the Braves in the ranks.

I don't expect the Braves slump to last, we'll see what the Phillies' offense does. Their pitching looks legit though.

wRC+

April: 109 ATL | 90 PHI

May: 101 ATL | 96 PHI

June: 97 ATL | 96 PHI

July: 82 PHI | 80 ATL

(not counting today, but both teams scored 5 runs)

amlaminack 2 points

That’s about what I expected. Phillies have excellent pitching with their bullpen and guys like Nola starting. Pythagorean win/loss confirms all of our bitching about Phillies overperforming as well. They seem to win a lot of close games so hopefully they’ll start dropping some of those

I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS GOING TO BE ONE. GLAD WE DIDNT GET SWEPT AND TOOK A WIN GOING INTO THE BREAK

Haha, you managed to comment in the split second I had this thread up to see if something was wrong with reddit.

amlaminack 2 points

Yeah I was pretty much refreshing the page on new waiting for the thread

E5 allows the runner from 3rd to score, E3 with no one backing it up (E2456?) Allows pandemonium. However, running error on the batter causes both base runners to be out, and potentially end the inning. Not sure if the run from third would count. I'm not sure if this is a FARTSLAM, a TOOTBLAN or maybe both? Either way, it's pure poetry.

This is beautiful analysis

If Fried pans out and Soroka comes back strong at the end of August then we could still make a good run at the end of the season against the gNats and Phils. We need to get the ship righted soon though

Did someone brush their teeth? Cause it’s getting Minty in here!!!

amlaminack 2 points

Have you noticed that relief pitchers have gotten Mintier lately?

There is a bar they reach up and touch as they exit the locker room but I don't know if Saban started that or if it happened before. Here is a video and you can see folks reaching up. It is just a white PVC pipe with "Win" printed on it. This video of the locker room shows the bar more clearly at about 3 minutes

Based on this video, they do not take it with them.

Yeah I know. I like jokes better than reality most of the time

I'm pretty sure his power was already flashing in Rome despite the 0 HRs. He has a great frame for generating power. It's his swing plane that they are working on. He was apparently hitting a ton of screaming missile line drives that never made it more than 8 feet off the ground and would have been HRs if he hadn't put so much top spin on the ball.

amlaminack 2 points

That’s good to hear. I haven’t followed any of the scouting for him. I only know what people say in this sub and what his stats say

profmcstabbins 5 points

Possibly the OF version of Simba

amlaminack 3 points

That’s what I’ve heard. I’m trying to contain my expectations but it’s really hard the more I hear about him

Playing for the Reds is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be....unnatural

Have you ever heard the tale of Darth Joey the Votto?

some-guy0 14 points

its not a story NL MVP voters would tell you

amlaminack 5 points

He could use the dark side of the plate discipline to even prevent strikeouts

I would love a HRD called by Chip.

“HIGH FLY BALL BELTED DEEP LEFT and that one falls short of the 12 year olds scrambling in shallow left.”

Someone make this happen!

Didn't Aaron Judge also have a low power rating in Minor Leagues?

amlaminack 3 points

I remember someone being concerned before he was drafted that his swing wouldn’t translate well from aluminum to wood. Boy were they wrong

Not a huge concern for me. Give Soroka as much times as he needs plus 1-3 weeks. No need in rushing him back.

amlaminack 1 point

Agreed. He’s only 20 years old. Take as much time as he needs
