Bill Monroe - Old Ebenezer Scrooge [Bluegrass] (1981) by cue_zephyr in listentothis

No, bluegrass is most definitely welcome, however Bill Monroe is the literal founder of the genre, and I'm not sure there's anyone more well known than him :)

p.s., I love Bill Monroe as much as anyone, but /r/bluegrass or /r/newgrass would likely be better spots for this!

Survey: US businesses add a solid 178,000 jobs in May by raffu280 in neutralnews

The BLS has seasonally adjusted employment levels going all the way back to 1950 or so. You can add a box that gives % change on a monthly / yearly basis to get the % change in any given month

Looks like beer by hornhead71 in grateful_dead

[–]arghdos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How's the beer scene in VA these days? Last time I really did any digging there (a few years ago before Lockn) it was pretty sparse. These cans look spiffy tho

[discussion] can we maybe change the name of this sub to something like “we, the automods, regret to inform you that we’ve found a fifth new reason we won’t allow you to post that video you really like here. Hahaha maybe that sixth time....” by TheSavagery in listentothis

[–]arghdos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're assuming it's one bot. It's actually a collection of bots: Automod controls the title formatting (which is required so that future bots can actually parse the title), the global domain white / blacklists, etc.

But automod lacks the ability to run anything more than simple title-format / domain checks. So we have a legacy bot that does artist information lookups and another bot that checks play-counts / blacklists.

We've talked before about having a unified submission form that runs all these checks and makes life easy for the user, but it would have to be an external 3rd party site (like a google form) that users visited to submit to /r/listentothis -- this is not only a bad solution, it's likely it would cause just as much frustration because there's not a good way to tell mobile users to use the form! When was the last time you opened up the sidebar in a mobile app?

If being a moderator was anything more than working unpaid for a help-desk 99% of your time, it might happen.

One thing you can try is registering an email with your reddit account -- the ten minute limit is actually tied to that, rather than anything on /r/listentothis specifically.

I wish we could have the bot check all the rules on submission, but that would require a custom title page (able to launch a script on submission) and reddit has made it quite clear (through silence) that they have no interest in that kind of fix

Late '71 versions are where I'd put the peak on that particular tune

Let It Grow - 1978-05-14 - Providence Civic Center by wilbard in grateful_dead

[–]arghdos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

p.s., check this out; it's a weird mix of psychadelic-tribal / Caribbean rhythms centered around Obeah, which is some sort of spiritual / healing practice in the islands

I sent it to you on slack, but it'll probably get to ya faster this way

Can someone ID the tunes on this episode of the Big Steve Hour and tell me if they were released officially? by Supplicationjam in grateful_dead

Man... commercial radio has janky ass intros every 2-3 minutes it seems like (scanning that mp3 anyways)

Got some time-stamps?

Other trackers good besides bt.etree and shnflac.net? by hornhead71 in grateful_dead

Thanks for maintaining such a wealth of quality music!

If it's reddit suckiness itself (rather than e.g., spending less time online) there are alternatives

[–]arghdos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I forgot one, private blogs can be very good as well e.g., the ROIO zine, midnight cafe (/u/midnitcafe has a very good lossless Dead / JGB collection and a TON of other awesome tapes)

[–]arghdos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non-Dead specific trackers with lots of good ROIO tapes: dime, trader's den

As far as Dead goes, if it's not on LL / etree or an AUD on archive, it's usually pretty damn hard to find. Some private trackers have bootlegs, but they usually don't do nearly a good enough job documenting sources / having a consistent tagging format, so at that point I'll usually do a grateful-grabber drive by of the corresponding archive page

Not sure about 84... What are the standout shows/moments. Thanks by nugchugniko in grateful_dead

[–]arghdos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the text file says he got the tape off Rob at 3am after the show:

  1. from a 2/15/02 post from Doug Oade:

mastered by Rob Eaton ( right track in NYC, he does mixing for Jimmy Buffet, Pat Metheny, etc.) and Jeff Silberman. They used Rob's U87s -> 6 x 9 volts -> Teac mic transformers -> Jeff's Technics SV-100 line in @ 14 bits. They ran the mics in omni mode, in front of each stack and split the width of the stage. It is very good indeed and only 14 bits ! Peace..>Doug

  1. from a subsequent 2/15/02 post from Doug Oade re whether the u87s were run in omni or cardiod mode:

I made my dub off Jeff's tape around 3:00am after a GD show, I would not be shocked if I got that wrong, but that is what I wrote down. ...Doug

I'm pretty sure it's the one you were talking about? Sound is crystal clear and Eaton has his moments too ;)
