The five minutes of Black Mass riffing in this is an instant all-time great Blank Check moment. And they didn't even get to its baffling, Around the World in 80 Days-esque parade of great actors in sub-nothing roles (including Adam Scott as a character who I don't think does anything besides have a mustache).

So brutal. Popeye is the perfect thing for GT and it's such a bummer it fell apart.

I had a phase where I watched Hotel Transylvania, Hotel Transylvania 2, and then Hotel Artemis with no other films in between. Sadly, the streak ended there and I did not follow it up with Hotel Rwanda.

Hotel for Dogs tho?

Original Poster2 points · 2 hours ago · edited 2 hours ago

Okay pretty simple for me. The stupider and more free willing the film the better. As such prime ranking is:

OOTL: where is “mater” from?

Mater is a character played by Larry the Cable Guy in the Cars movies who in those movies is best friends with Lightning McQueen played by Owen Wilson. Occasionally, the TwoFriends will slip into Owen Wilson impressions which turn into them just saying "Wow" which then turned into "".

I watched The Seventh Seal and it was very daunting for me, are there any accessible bergman movies? I heard The Magician is more accessible

Nooooo. Magician is totally not accessible.

Winter Light is pretty straight forward. Smiles of a Summer Night is the rare Bergman comedy. Through a Glass Darkly is also pretty simple.

Probably my favorite Bergman alongside Hour of the Wolf. He was at his best at that sort of semi-surreal stage dealing with his own mortality and grief. Never loved all Bergman but when he hits it right I just adore it so much.

OMG. I really hope Lana Wachowski hooked them up.

This is too damn good and very heartwarming.

Flaming take: Won’t You Be My Neighbor is an above average American Masters episode and not remotely a good film.

Also Mr Rogers show was never entertaining and if he felt he failed at converting kids from watching violent cartoons it’s because violent cartoons are actually fun to watch

First take was lukewarm at best.

Second take was flaming thermite level hot.

I'm sorry I didn't like these heteronormative regressive fucking wastes of time! Like, I apologize for not being able to keep from gritting my teeth the eighth time someone suggested that the only conceivable future for a woman is to marry a man and vice versa, but this stuff annoys me when it shows up in children's movies! I'm sorry that I couldn't just laugh at the fact that the only black guy has basically a single character trait, which is "lusts after women," oh and also he's from Africa. I'm sorry I thought it was kind of creepy that the daughter is simultaneously 18 (in terms of all of her mannerisms) and also 118 (so it's totally fine she's marrying some dude she just met). I'm sorry that the whole idea of a "zing" sounds super fucked up to me, like, love at first sight is not my favorite thing in the world but did they really have to endorse its existence by making it some sort of magical thing that everyone in society just accepts blindly? Oh and I love the whole "monsters are a metaphor for oppressed minorities" but then it turns out nobody actually hates them anymore and the oppression is all in their head and if they would just go out in society everyone would love them, that's such a great message for children to learn! Nobody actually hates oppressed groups anymore! That shit was way in the past! Yes I know Dracula they literally murdered your wife out of prejudice but get over it, oppression isn't real!

I wish I were as cool as you but I can't really change what I like and what I don't! I didn't realize it was super cool to like these films but I guess I'll go sit with the uncool kids at lunch from now on.

edit: like come the fuck on, Dracula is JEWISH. His wife was KILLED IN A POGROM. The lesson of these movies is "get over it, nobody hates you anymore!" Except for the two white-ass "monster" hating fucking neo-Nazis in the third movie, one of whom IS DRACULA'S TRUE LOVE so she effortlessly gets over her prejudice. That's a bad fucking look! Fuck these movies.

I did like how Atlantis is just a casino run by scantily clad blue fuckbois though. That was amusing.

The morality particularly in two was straight up terrible, really bad metaphor for interracial couples. Also pretty telling that this is just a hair away from queer acceptance narratives but would never ever actually go there.

Is the Shane Black miniseries ever going to happen? Is it going to tie in with The Predator?

There's two 'conditional' directors mentioned. Spielberg a post Oscar and Verhoeven in Hollywood?

Doesn't seem to be on schedule but I'd love it. I do think they'd just do directorial career though because doing all his scripts would mean crossover with possible blank checkers Richard Donner and John McTiernan.

Five years after the events of Mamma Mia!, on the Greek island of Kalokairi, Sophie is pregnant with Sky's child while running her mother Donna's villa, who has passed a year prior to the events of the film. Her relationship with Sky has been turbulent for some time, giving her cause to doubt that she can survive without her mother. With Tanya and Rosie's guidance, Sophie will find out more of Donna's past, including how she fronted The Dynamos, started her villa on the island from nothing, met each one of Sophie's dads, Sam, Bill and Harry, and raised a daughter, without a mother to guide her. She also has an unexpected visit from someone she has never even met: her estranged maternal grandmother, Ruby Sheridan.

I'm pretty excited. Looks like M. Night is going full superhero myth and thankfully the mental asylum story seems more like a frame device over the whole thing. Plus damn this is the best looking Night film since Le Village.

The part where Samuel L Jackson is presented as the equivalent in powers to the other two because he has a high IQ despite his brittle bones is SWEATY.
