American idolize players who play hurt or even injured. We look up to people who push their bodies to the limits, and can do things that we wouldn’t otherwise think possible. The fact that the opposite seems to be a case to us is why soccer is only now starting to gain popularity, despite being such a great sport.

I don't think so, because if that is true, then Americans must also be extremely narrow-minded in that case, to let a few dives turn them off from the rest of the 90 minutes of the most beautiful game in the world.

I think the fact is that Americans sport corporations (NFL/NBA etc) and American sports fans don't allow soccer to spread because it's a threat to them if more Americans switch to soccer.

Also US is not that good at soccer either. If they reached WC semi-final or something, soccer would be hailed as a great sport.

The fact is Americans in general view sports as contests between strong, tough athletes. Most of the greatest athletic feats in American history will include a player overcoming an injury (Jack Lambert playing with a broken leg, Michael Jordan Playing with the flu, Curt Schilling and the infamous bloody sock). That’s the way we view sports.

Sure, sports corporations try to exert dominance, that’s the way they all are. The US isn’t that great at soccer, though, because the greatest athletes play football, basketball, baseballs or hockey.

The US has made it to the semis in WC, albeit a long time ago. It wasn’t that long ago that they reached the quarters as well, and the game in the knockout round of the ‘14 WC against Belgium was one of the most exciting matches in the history of the tournament. All this with soccer being the 5th most popular sport in the country. If it gained momentum I have no doubt the team would be one of the world’s best.

I don't think so. I think that is the picture that you want to paint but reality is not even close to what you are trying to manufacture.

There are more instances of injuries and players playing on with injuries in soccer than many American sports. Why is that ignored? It's all about feeding your own prejudice and finding justifications.

You’re assuming I have a bias. All I’m doing is telling you why Americans feel the way they do about soccer. However, I would challenge you to find how soccer players play even half as often when injured like rugby, football, or hockey players do. It is a less violent sport. That is without question. To act as though it isn’t is disingenuous.

it sounds like pseudoscientific nonsense to me. maybe it is real idk but trying to break people down into specific types like that is almost always nonsense. myers briggs, horoscopes, the ectomorph/mesomorph/endomorph shit, etc

I mean it’s pretty straightforward.

Some people like to get things from other people to know they’re cared about.

Others like to be told they’re cared about.

Still, other people like grand gestures, while there are some who prefer small gestures but more often.

We are all that way in how we perceive others care about us.

ok, so everyone is different and likes different things? why break it down into some snake oil sounding nonsense?

2 points · 4 hours ago

Nothing about it is snake oil sounding nonsense though. We all feel loved in different ways. The way people express it can be seen as it’s own language, since it varies so greatly from person to person.

Take those two things, and a lazy psychologist, and you have the phrase love language.

Could be. There’s a lot going on here.

Robber: Empty out the register and no one gets hurt. You too, old man, gimme your wallet.

Tex: Son, don’t do this. It’s not gonna end well, for ya. -takes off shades-

Robber: Shut up. Hey, lady, what are you doing back there?

Tex: I’m sorry, son, but you brought this on yourself.

Tex: Don’t fight it son, it will only get worse.

Deli guy 1: Holy shit! Wow! Hey, I got the gun! I got the gun!

Robber: Fuck this noise, I’m outta here!

Deli guy 2: Where do ya think YOU’RE goin’, jerkoff? Gimme a hand, Tex, I think it’s time for a good, old-fashioned beat-down.

Tex: My pleasure. -helps drag robber off camera- BING. POW. BAM.

Where the fuck are all the 2nd amendment folks who claim they have guns to protect against government tyranny. We have actual literal concentration camps in our country. What. The. Fuck.

Can we be concerned about fascism now? Because when Trump was elected i was told that comparing him to nazi's and fascists was ridiculous and that there was no way they would do anything that would be comparable to Nazi Germany, or Italy? Yet here we fucking are, with actual literal concentration camps full of who? The people that the GOP and the Trump campaign has worked to demonize and dehumanize for years! Sure it's only foreign citizens for now. Who else did trump rail against on his campaign? He's done everything he can to try and demonize the free press. Along with Fox news and the GOP they've convinced far to many people that the truth is a lie and that lies are the truth. How long till they start imprisoning political opponents? Journalists?

Where the fuck are all the 2nd amendment folks who claim they have guns to protect against government tyranny.

Their answer would be short and simple:

Non-Americans don’t have rights granted to them by the Constitution.

I’m not taking a side here, but that is where they would stand without question.

That was a really dumb thing to say. Are you happy you said it, or do you regret saying it?

proved they are too spineless to do so even when it's completely overt, an attempt to rearrange the map to permanently keep the party in power.

No, they did exactly what the TGOP wanted. Not rule on how gerrymandering is against the Constitution and kick back to the lower courts (states) where the TGOP has even more power. At this point, if there isn't another civil war in my lifetime, I'll be surprised.

Anyone who complains about Republican gerrymandering has, at best, no knowledge of political history in America.

Gerrymandering is not new. It’s not a Republican thing. Democrats do it just as heavily when they have power. To label it as though it is some evil thing Republicans are doing is beyond disingenuous. It’s outright lying.

Oh I know that Democrats do it as well. It's just the Republicans have taken it to a new level and are fighting every step of the way to keep in place.

I don’t deny they’re doing it now, but the Democrats did this exact same thing too. The scale of it is being blown out of proportion, and the dems are being hypocrites, in all honesty.

I have voted independently my entire voting life (30 years). I have voted for many Republican candidates/measures/bills as I do agree with some of those views. I've also voted for many Democratic candidates/measures/bills right alongside those Republican votes, but no more.

After seeing what Republicans do when they have unchecked power has set me straight. I'll never vote for anything to do with Republicans, regardless of what it's for. I just changed my registration from Independent to Democrat.

They have lost my vote for eternity.
