Where the heck did you get it? It doesn't seem to be available in stores anymore.

Diaz has had some good moments, but the writers are blowing too much smoke up his ass presenting him as "an unstoppable force." The quadrant turns out to suck too. What kind of super secret criminal society lets one guy off three members and get away with it?

And then the remaining members meet him face to face, seemingly without any armed guards with a bead on Diaz? As soon as the knife came out on that guy, I expected a huge firefight, but nope. They're supposed to have a shit ton of resources, but hey, guess what, turns out they didn't even have a bodyguard.

Just an update: We got a call scheduled with Chris Crawford. And got personal gifts from Sid Meier. Thank you sooo much for all your suggestions :)

That's incredible. I'm happy for you!

Hey, Yes. That's a great idea. It dint even strike me. Any way you can connect me with him?

I don't know how you'd officially ask. I know he has a twitter account, but I don't know if he has his "own" email or if you have to go through Firaxis Games.

Maybe it's early to think about, but my family is going to be visiting Calgary in July for the Stampede, and we'd like to find some nice places for dinner. We're specifically looking for good Alberta beef, bison, or possibly game meats. Nothing super upscale, but in the range of $30 entrees would be fine. Bonus points if they're on Open Table.

Care to help a fellow Canadian out? Thanks in advance.

If you don’t mind a drive, the Grizzly House in Banff has fondue platters that will let you sample all sorts of game together. A fondue dinner runs around $35pp.

We were considering going to Banff for one day, and the menu looks great. Thanks for the suggestion!

This has to be a troll of some kind on Atlus' part.

The non-video game of the week is back! Everyone's talking about cardboard with the Nintendo Labo, so let's talk about the ORIGINAL cardboard! While M:tG isn't the first CCG to hit the scene, it is the most influential. Spanning over 80 expansions and to celebrate its 25th anniversary in August, it's still going strong. So whether you're an old-school player, you're still picking up expansions, you keep it casual or you're all about the competition, tap your lands and join the discussion!

EDIT: Want more Magic after the thread is done? Head to /r/magictcg for all your Magic needs!

New to Magic and want to learn more, or don't have a lot of funds? Check out /r/casualmtg to keep your Magic...well, casual!

Need some advice on your deck? Head to /r/magicdeckbuilding and they'll be happy to help you out!

Possible things you can discuss:

What's your favourite core edition, or which one did you start with? Did the addition or removal of a certain card from one edition to the next really upset you? (Can you believe they removed Serra Angel in Fifth Edition? At least they came to their senses in Seventh.)

What's your favourite expansion? (And why is it Invasion?)

What's your least favourite expansion? (A lot of people immediately jump to "Fallen Empires" and "Homelands." Do they unfairly get a bad rep, or is it totally justified? Is there anything even worse?)

Tournament players, what's your favourite way to play? Standard, or do you not like having to keep up with the expansions? Vintage, or do you not like having to scrounge up the Moxes and such? Are Cube Draft and Commander actually fun?

Or your favourite colour, or planeswalker, or deck theme, or the deck theme that annoyed you the most (did Necro decks ruin Magic?) or...

Show off your deck! It could be competitive, or it could be fun! (I have a deck that features 16 Prodigal Sorcerer-type cards. 4 each of 4 different names. It's like being pecked to death by ducks!)

Maybe even show off or talk about your favourite Magic players on Youtube? Here are some Rooster Teeth employees playing a five-player variant. (Just remember: if it's your own episode you're showing off, keep rule 8 in mind!)

Please resist the temptation to talk about MtG video games. I get it, you loved the old Microprose MtG Game ("Shandalar") and wish they'd bring it back because MtGO stinks, or you want to talk about unofficial MtG games like Forge or Wagic, but seeing as we want to showcase non-video games, please stick to cardboard. Thanks!

Enjoy, and happy slinging!

FINAL EDIT: To prevent sticky fatigue and for future NVG threads to go unnoticed, we'll be removing this post as an announcement tomorrow evening. So if you still want to submit your decks, or have a cool tournament story, or just chime in about how you used to play or make lootbox jokes, you still have a day to do it. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Lightning Bolt is the greatest card ever made.

Deal 3 damage to target creature or player for 1 mountain? Yes please.

I dunno, Ancestral Recall - draw three cards for 1 island - kinda tops it (and Time Walk is pretty up there: take an extra turn for 1 blue and 1 colorless mana.)

That's just overpowered.

Shhh.

No tears.

Only cards now.

Was it real cash or prop money?

It was a real cheque: 200 dollars in real money. They basically told the journalists: "Cash this cheque or don't. If you do, you fall victim to the sin of avarice, and if you don't, you waste it, falling victim to the sin of prodigality. Choose your sin and accept the consequences" or something like that.

Nice idea, but I thought there was an exclusive licensing contract with the NFL properties.

The right hinge on my 3DS is more or less busted. After I close it, I have to kind of snap the hinge closed. So maybe it had its best month because all the existing 3DS owners need to get a new one.

Redditors will know why this post violates rule 1.

Not all games have to be "fun" to be good games. Papers, Please. Spec Ops: the Line. Doki Doki Literature Club. Always Sometimes Monsters. All these games, you'd have to say, "It's not fun, BUT." (Mind you, some people don't want to play games that aren't fun, so that might still be helpful.)

I don't know about Detective Pikachu, but they stopped trying with 3D a while ago now, a lot of people don't use it that much anyway, which is a shame if you ask me.

I really liked the 3D on the 3DS games but now they just don't try anymore. Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D could be played entirely with 3D enabled, whereas in Pokemon Sun/Moon you can only use it in some battles (iirc only in 1vs1 battles), and even then the framerate drops significantly when displaying the effects of attacks.

I thought in Sun/Moon, the 3D effect only happened when you were using the camera.

Awesome! Too bad you missed the Settlers of Catan megathread.

You're being a spammer. Knock it off.

This is my first time using reddit, so I'm very unfamiliar with the setup and rules. I apologize if I've done something wrong.

See, it's hard to believe that when you're replying to a three-month-old post and I see our automoderator has removed several more of your youtubes in the intervening time.

You're a spammer, plain and simple, and now you're trying to use newness as an excuse to cover for a months-long spamming spree.

And I don't see your behaviour changing. Goodbye.

In the spirit of Christmas and New Year's, this week's non-video game shows off a favourite for small families. What better way to celebrate the holidays with family than by asking your dad if he's got wood for sheep? Come trade your posts, anecdotes and ideas with us. You might just win the longest road card for your thread!

Some things you can discuss here:

Show off special or customized boards! (Here's a famous gaming post where OP made a Catan board out of cupcakes)

Have you played any specialized versions like Star Trek Catan? If so, how did it go, and does it compare well to the original?

What's your favourite expansion? Which one really sucked? (I like Traders & Barbarians myself, even though my family only liked the fisheries part of it.)

Do you play like a gentleman and put the robber on the 12 to spare your mom, or do you go for the jugular and slam it on that 6, even if it means you'll be cut out of the will?

What's the ideal number of players? Is 3 best or too boring, 4 best or too cramped, are the 5-6 player expansions too much or just right?

DAMN IT, WHY WON'T ANYONE TRADE ME A BRICK?! I KNOW YOU'VE GOT ONE, SIS! DON'T ACT LIKE YOU DON'T! (2meirl4meirl?)

Want more Catan goodness? Head to /r/catan - they'll be glad to see you!

Enjoy, and happy gaming!

EDIT: As always, to prevent sticky fatigue, this thread will no longer be an announcement as of tomorrow evening. So if you still want to share your stories or images, you've got one more day to do it. Thanks again for participating, everyone!

Almost certainly did not happen, but that's 4chan for you.

And just think, board games have gotten so much better that Catan is now one of the rubbish ones.

Original Poster1 point · 6 months ago

Catan is objectively NOT rubbish. The newer board games can also thank Catan for opening up the market to board games aimed at adults.

(To use a video game comparison, first person shooters have evolved past Wolfenstein 3D, but that doesn't make Wolf3D a bad game.)

TIR Alucard is Dracula without facial hair.

It's also Dracula spelled backwards.

Eh, after a few years of collecting even casually you're going to have piles and piles of garbage cards with countless duplicates. It was just for fun.

Even though I have a ton of worthless commons, and I don't even play anymore, I could never EVER do this.
