My friend's mom is teaching me to make Yemeni food, and she was using a spice that we couldn't translate/identify. She said it's a dried leaf from her village in the north of Yemen. It's brown/black shrivelled disk with a hole in the middle , and they're stored in a string in the freezer. She soaked them in water and then blended it to add to a sauce and it was sour.
She said it might be called "هلقة" but when I Googled that all I got was pictures of the Incredible Hulk. Anyone know what it's called?
Hello, I’m a Yemeni who was born and raised in Saudi Arabia who has never been to Yemen aside from when I was 3. Due fo our expat status in KSA we aren’t granted privileges as natives are, although my father was also born and raised here. We have no rights to claim citizenship. Nor is my family wealthy, so that makes things a lot more complicated.
I’ve applied to study in the UK twice, once for a summer school programme and once for a european exchange programme, both on scholarship, and my visa was rejected both times. The reasons for rejection were suspicions of illegal immigration. Any people in the same boat? How did you go about this? Any advice?
I’m a bright student and would flourish if given the right tools but it seems that even gaining access to these tools after I’ve jumped the financial hoop is an issue.
We have an international group chat on Whatsapp that has 1 user per country and we’re missing someone from Yemen!
We’re wondering if one if you would like to join the group! It’s very active and fun. Please remember that if you want to join, that its a very active group and it would be nice if you are active as well!
